I was doing a crossword earlier - one clue was ‘novel by Bulwer-Lytton’. I left that one - unless it was buried very deep in my memory I knew I’d never get it without googling.
Later I was (first time for ages) dusting a shelf of small, very old books that had belonged to dh’s parents and grandparents. Mostly poetry, a lot of leather-bound tiny print, you know the sort of thing.
The lettering on the spine of one of the last I took out was so old and faded I could hardly read it, but there it was - ‘The Last Days of Pompeii’ - by Bulwer-Lytton.
Maybe I should pick up a duster a bit more often!
