Witzend

Maria59

The national anthem on TV before bed

I still hear it though - R4 after the late shipping forecast, and before it becomes the World Service.

The green spot in the middle of the screen as the broadcast went off.

And the girl who was on the test card like a screen saver. 🙂

I don't think the lollies have the jokes now.

Doodledog Tue 24-Oct-23 22:34:15

Oh yes! I'd forgotten about those. I don't really eat lollies nowadays, so don't know if any still have them.

Curling Tue 24-Oct-23 22:26:46

Jokes on ice lolly sticks.

Curling Tue 24-Oct-23 22:12:17

Cresta....It's Frothy, Man!

Curling Tue 24-Oct-23 22:02:47

I think 'Elf and Safety' put an end to toys in cereal packets.

Doodledog Tue 24-Oct-23 15:25:18

I have a Clarice Cliff blackbird pie funnel, which I do use now and then.

Were plastic toys banned or have they just fallen from fashion?

Curling Tue 24-Oct-23 15:06:55

Free toys etc. in cereal boxes.
Timothy Whites stores.
People don't use pie funnels any more.

Those bells under the door mat of corner shops that used to ring when you walked through the door, then the shopkeeper used to appear from their living quarters.

varian

Where else would you wash your car?

*""*""

That's illegal here in Germany. The water from car washing has to be treated so you are supposed to wash your car at a car wash.

Having said that, lots of things mentioned above are still the norm here in Germany. Scrap merchants for example - there's a chap comes round every now and again on a Saturday, ringing a bell and yelling "Alteisen". He's usually gone before you have time to go and fetch anything for him though.

MrsKen33 Sun 22-Oct-23 15:49:36

Carry cots

keepcalmandcavachon Sun 22-Oct-23 14:14:44

Greyisnotmycolour, we used my friends little brother as the guy, with a cap pulled down over his face that he wasn't under any circumstances to take off and 'give the game away'. Poor little chap must have been freezing!

Greyisnotmycolour Sun 22-Oct-23 13:53:41

Children playing out, penny for the guy, home made go-carts/bogies, I guess that's down to no more coach built prams.

Granmarderby10 Sun 22-Oct-23 12:50:58

Calendargirl

Angiers Junior Aspirin.

I know you don’t give children aspirin nowadays, but they were orange flavoured and I loved taking them.

Seem to have survived.

Ha Ha! They had these vitamin tablets called Halliborange, they were a more palatable way of taking Fish oil and with the added benefit of vitamin C. I loved them a bit too much and I should have been bursting with vitamins.

Wonder what happened to Halibut oil? And was it any better than Cod Liver oil.
Never see it now or for that matter Halibut itself, but alas no fishmarkets in town any more

Granmarderby10 Sun 22-Oct-23 12:20:39

SachaMach yes the telephone table plus the big directory and Yellow pages. Ours was actually in the bay window of the front room! With plenty of background racket from the TV.
Modern youngsters have far to much privacy these days..😉

This also brings back memories of being taught to answer the telephone with my number and ask who’s speaking please😊
