Good Morning Monday 2nd October 2023
(51 Posts)Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and dry. Mick I'm glad you had a nice time.
I'm up early for childcare. Dd has an office day. We will play inside and in the garden after nursery drop off. I'm tired this morning after a really bad night's sleep. Roast chicken for dinner later. Have a good day all
Good morning from a dry Bristol. The weather is so odd this autumn. I was so hot at times yesterday.
The Harvest lunch went well; there congregation was pretty big, with quite a few children, which is always nice, even though there appears to be a couple of feral ones…
I went in for 9 am to help set out - I say “help”. Apart from putting the cloths on the tables, the other two,Aries spent their time facing with table decorations, while I got out 60 plates, cutlery, glasses, napkins, and set them out; filled jugs with water, etc., before the service. Rushed out after the service to cut up meatloaves and put food out.
The lunch was a great success although, as usual, I’m astonished at people’s greed. You’d think that some of them (although pretty well off) hadn’t eaten for a fortnight. And, as usual, I’m astonished at the low donations - barely reaching an average of £2 per person.
After tidying up, I got home just before 3 pm, having demolished my vegetable display. My upstairs neighbour came down and spent nearly two hours helping me chop the vegges for piccalilli. When she left I did the marrow and salted the lot.
Still feeling very tired, although I still have to make the various preserves this afternoon. Isn’t very onerous, thankfully.
Tesco this morning, preserving this afternoon, but shall try and take it easy.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning, it’s a damp Monday morning here in south Gloucestershire.
I’m off early to get a tyre repair or changed, there’s a nail in it 🙄, then a quick shop for vegetables before coming home to do more garden tidying (if it’s not raining)
Yesterday I pottered about doing various bits and pieces including tackling the border that gets bindweed encroaching from my neighbours ‘wildflower lawn’ that’s mainly dandelions, bindweed and couch grass 😡. All of which grow or seed into my garden 🫤
I hope the week goes well for you all 🌹
Morning Mick, morning All. Very dark out there but I think and hope our corner of Somerset is dry.
Spent a good bit of the morning emptying wooden furniture yesterday while ‘persuading’ Mr C that no, he isn’t yet healed enough to move it. He’s finding it very hard to ignore the instinct to get stuck in.
Our son called late afternoon, took custody of an unwanted garden seat and also a third of our big sofa. The manual reclining mechanism has broken, he’ll take it for repair. The remaining 2/3 looks very strange indeed but will make life easier for the carpet fitters due at 8.30. I’m still worried about the carpet choice, nothing to be done now though other than hope.
You worked so hard yesterday mattie no wonder you’re tired. Makes me wonder what happened at Church functions before you arrived. You were up very early grandmab. Hope your young charges cooperate today and let you sit down a bit. Pleased you had a good day mick, sounds fun.
Thoughts go to all struggling. Hope Monday is kind to us all.
Good morning from South Lanarkshire. It’s dark and still outside.
Thanks for all the good wishes for my retirement. We had a very nice early evening ‘afternoon’ tea where I was given beautiful flowers, cards, and gifts. I shall miss the lovely volunteers.
I’m not sure what today will bring but I have no plans.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Warm for the time of year though I lit a fire for the Quaker meeting yesterday. 2 of our group are over 90 and feel the cold.
Nothing in my diary today suspiciously after a very busy weekend of open studios, concerts and films. It was our annual arts festival..
The car wouldn't start so I need to get that seen to and then I shall lend my car to my friend until I can drive again.
Enjoy your retirement Baubles.
Glad the ABBA concert was such a success Mick
No surprise that you are tired gMattie you are doing a lot
Always interesting reading all the goings on. I hope the week goes well for everyone particularly those with health worries
Good morning from a dark, dry Cornwall. To a friend's for brunch this morning, apparently it's avocado and scrambled egg, yum. My neighbour's temporarily taken in a young man who works in her bar; it's so hard to find affordable accommodation in this town so I expect he's delighted. We share stairs and a tiny landing and easily hear each other come and go so out of courtesy keep each other informed of changes.
How lovely that you enjoyed Abba Mick with no hitches.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a dry South Yorkshire. Very glad you had a nice day yesterday, Mick! Stood in the rain and watched GS’s team play football yesterday. They were playing against my local village team, but my loyalties were definitely not divided! It was a good scrap and worth getting a bit wet for. I have an appointment this morning but after that a food shop, cleaning and some ironing. It is set to rain later anyway.
Have a good day, folks!
Morning all
grandMattie your new church is very lucky you have moved into the area. Mick pleased you enjoyed the ABBA concert.
Off to the gym this morning, then more sorting out of wardrobes etc.
(((Hugs))) to all in need
Have a great day folks 🦩🙋♀️
Good morning from foggy and a damp-all-day s somerset
My oomph was gone yesterday afternoon and evening. Happens sometimes, I whizz around for days and then body says `hey, sit and do nothing` so I did nothing, went to bed early and slept all through.
Cycling yesterday, hedges are being cut and fields are spread with muck so lanes are spikey and mucky albeit dry. Too dodgy now with skinny tyres, time for changeover. I am glad I never went on saturday, would have been spattered with wet stinky muck
I did clean all my downstairs windows in and out, cills and blinds. There were lots of hiding spiders, as long as they remain outside. Today I want to finish a blouse, part three of a three part themed outfit for a family gathering. All pieces are nice and can be worn on their own
The low donations, yes very greedy grabbing people GM, must have left a gutting feeling. More takers than givers, as is often the case
Have a good day
Good morning everyone from a grey and overcast Northampton, rain forecast this afternoon and overnight. A quiet day in yesterday, reading the papers, catch-up tv and starting my new book. Watched rugby in the evening. A busy day for you, grandMattie!
Glad you enjoyed ABBA yesterday Mick.
Yoga this morning, then home for coffee and a quick go at the puzzles in the paper. Then I must get the duster and Hoover out as I have a friend coming for coffee on Wednesday, and must remove the dust! I find inviting people round is a good incentive to clean..... More reading this afternoon, and a spicy mince to go in the slow cooker, a sort of whatever's in the cupboard and throw it in the pot meal.
Wishing all a good Monday.
Good morning from a misty, rather murky Torbay.
I'm glad your trip went well, Mick, and hope that will help you feel confident to book further excursions.
I feel quite indignant on your behalf, grandMattie. You worked so hard to enable the parishioners to enjoy a good Harvest lunch but others didn’t rally round. Would it be an idea to write to the PCC with a list of points for future reference? Some churches charge a set price on such occasions to at least cover costs. Well done on coping so calmly and efficiently.
Happy retirement, baubles! We still enjoy our relaxed Monday mornings, knowing others are up and out to work as we have our second TIB! (it's been 13 years since I retired and nearly 20 for DH!)
Good luck with the carpet fitters, cornergran; it will be fine once it's done, I'm sure! Take good care of yourself, Grandmabatty.
Last night I was a Front of House steward for a visiting Genesis tribute band. By the end of the first song my hearing aids were taken out and for the second act, I took myself out and stayed on duty on the other side of the door. The fans seemed to love it and it brings in new people to our theatre besides helping to swell the coffers, still recovering from our 18 month closure during lockdown.
Hope this is the start of a good week, especially for those who are suffering. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°C.
Grandmabatty, I hope you have an easy day, no wonder you are tired, with all that is going on.
A busy day yesterday for you, GM, just be careful you don't overdo things. Perhaps suggesting a suggested minimum donation would help. I've found that parishioners have no idea what goes on behind the scenes or the cost of things.
Yesterday, I received a video call from Dollie, it cheered me up so much. She had wanted to tell me all about her teacher's reaction to the Titanic homework we did together. Her teacher was so impressed, she put it on the wall, but the thing that impressed her most , according to Dollie was that it was laminated. 🤣
For a while, there has been an elephant in the room between DH, DS1 and I. With difficulty, we have kept our own counsel, because he takes offense so easily. Thankfully, much to my relief, he told me on the call, that he has partly resolved it. Treading on eggshells recently hasn't helped my emotional and mental health at all.
I shall have another gentle day because I'm still having heart issues. A call to the cardiology secretary and trying to get an emergency dental appointment are the only tasks on the cards
DH was going to cancel his golf, in case I needed him, but I chased him out. The peace and quiet will suit me well.
I'm hoping of more photos of Puglia from Scalpal. 💚
Hugs for all, who need them. 💐
Have a pleasant day everyone
.
Good morning from Shropshire.
Today is the first day of a local company fitting a new boiler, shower and radiators for us.I will stay out of the way in the conservatory and catch up with admin and reading.Like corner I am nervous about choices. The boiler will be fine but hoping we have made the right choice about the shower and radiators. So much choice!
grandMattie no wonder you are tired.Your church is very lucky you chose them.
Glad the day went well yesterday Mick.
Hope the boys are good for you Grandmabatty🤞🏻
Thinking of all struggling with illness and worries🙏🏻💐
Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩
Good morning from a grey skied Colchester. 21° with occasional showers is today's forecast. Yesterday was very humid.
A day of in and out as DH has a hearing test and a physio appointment.
Chicken curry this evening. Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning all from a dampish looking North Leicestershire.
I am still worn out after a full on weekend.
DGD4 enjoyed her birthday shopping trip. She has to look at everything in every single shop before going back to the very first thing she saw. Yesterday, I made hot dogs for 8 before some went off to the football. I then made chicken parmigiana for 11. Might just stay in bed today!!
Have the best day possible everyone.
I am so impressed by gMattie’s hard work and sympathise over the low donation rate. I don’t understand why people are so mean and would be cross about it. Delighted that the Titanic homework was so well received, Marydoll, always good to know you haven’t lost your touch.
After a fairly lazy recovery day yesterday I am awaiting a visit from a local jojner/handyman to discuss replacing the internal doors which are the original 1967 cheap and nasty ones. May need to lie down when he works out what it will cost!
Good morning all from grey and damp Harrogate.
Glad you had a good trip yesterday Mick must have been such a relief!
I’m not surprised you are tired GrandMattie that was an exhausting job. Doubt if there would have been a meal without you!! Take care now.
Hope you manage to get medical intervention Marydoll, it’s difficult when your mind is Active but your body says no can do.
Yesterday church, tried to have a quiet afternoon catching up on emails, but the internet had other ideas! Had a lousy night last night, but mainly telephone calls today so should survive.
Have the best day possible folks
Morning from a damp and dull S Hants.
gMattie well done you, sad that some people are so ungrateful.
Good you got to and enjoyed ABBA Mick
Yesterday was a quiet day, we watched the Ryder Cup, pleased for Europe.
Today is voluntary phone day, library visit and quiz tonight.
Thoughts with those struggling.
🦩🦩
Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s a bit grey and chilly. Village walk this morning and flu jab late this afternoon. In between I may fall asleep in the conservatory, I’ve been awake since 4!
GM who did everything before you arrived in the area? You do so much they are fortunate to have you.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s bright dry and sunny. Rain forecast for later though
So pleased to hear you enjoyed your trip out yesterday mick
Your church is so lucky to have you gMattie you do such a lot to help
I had an unsettling day yesterday after being first on the scene at a nasty traffic accident near home, it makes you realise how easily things can happen and it shook me up quite a bit. Today I feel a bit better so I’m off to the gym to try the yoga class again. It’s only the second time I’ve done yoga so I’m still very much a beginner.
Enjoy a lazy day Baubles you deserve it
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning from a bright South Downs. A very mild night.
mick I’m glad you had such a successful day
gm it was ever thus. And perhaps loaves and fishes given away freely by Christ, isn’t too far off the mark😄.
Yesterday got on well with beginning to clear the bottom terrace. Hoping to finish it today.
A neighbour phoned inviting us to an impromptu party, but I declined as I want to stay well for my - hopefully- operation next week. Her parties are alway brilliant, and because they are they are always a huge crush of people. I actually caught covid on her ruby wedding bash. So she kindly invited us to a pre-Christmas dinner instead.
Today - housework - 😡 then gardening 🙂
Fish pie and fresh fruit salad and yogurt
Peace and harmony one and all.
Good morning from a cool, damp Durham. There’s been rain overnight.
I hope you get your necessary appointments sorted today Marydoll.
I’m furious to see my credit rating has plummeted because I’ve ‘missed a payment’. I haven’t - Octopus have failed to take my monthly DD! I’ll be ringing them at 9am! I understand there’s a procedure to follow to have the rating re-instated, or this will stay on my record for 7 years. Has anyone any experience of this, they can pass on, please.
Coffee later with a friend, then a cheque to bank.
Thinking of Urms and also sad to see Foxy leave.
Best wishes to all. X
Good morning and it’s grey here in Essex.
Yesterday was warmer outside than in.
We went to db’s for afternoon tea with ds1 and DIL and sat out in their garden. They have a very large plot with an orchard, so we picked apples and pears and brought 4 bags home each.
I’ll peel, stew and freeze some and take the rest to my various clubs this week to share them round. Db and SIL find it too much for them these days so they were pleased they weren’t going to waste.
Mick so glad your ABBA experience went well. I’m going in the New year with some friends. I haven’t heard a bad review about the show, so I’m looking forward to going.
I was going to shop but we only really need fruit and veg , so I’ll pop to our local greengrocers .
Will spend the afternoon peeling said apples/pears and get Dh ‘to give a hand’.
Love to all 🌻
