Another Scam to be aware of

I keep getting one from the DMV or whatever it is. Apparently, my car isn't insured and they need a payment or I'll be driving illegally!
I wondered if they meant the non-existent, super expensive Porsche that I'd literally have to fall into, that I'd park in my non-existent garage or on my non-existent drive, that I'd normally have my non-existent chauffeur drive as I have never had a driving lesson nor even a provisional driving licence ever!!
But they can carry on messaging me, and I will carry on ignoring them!

You must Never respond by typing something in reply to a scam, such as the one you got! They want you to respond, any which way.

Every time you acknowledge a scam - and the scammers are far smarter with technology than we are - it gives them more in-roads to your information. If you’ve ever had fraud on your online banking, you will never ever respond to a scam again.

From now on delete, Delete, DELETE‼️

Thank You for the warning 🙂

“Just had a message on my phone, "mum, my phone is broken please call me on this number", obviously ignored it, but many wouldn't”

I had two of these lately. Replied with “of course I will, which one of my children are you?

Quick thinking! 👏

Anyone still on Facebook is asking for trouble. By now third party scammers (Russians, Chinese…) have already mined your account for personal information, all the fake accounts and ads trying to sell you things. It’s so vile. FB cannot keep up with all of this. I got off FB about 7-8 yrs ago. Never looked back. (I was never was on Twitter or any other.)
Social media is such a scourge. However, GN is managed beautifully! So far, so good.

Any suspicious emails I get go straight to …[email protected]. The numbers reported on their response is mind boggling

grumppa Thu 05-Oct-23 14:12:45

I've had two of those this week, Maggieanne, addressed to Hi dad. Blocked them.

If FB can't stop this they should not be allowed to operate.

I've had several of the emails from 'tv licensing' which I send straight to spam.

If you have family and friends living abroad FB can be a convenient way of keeping in touch (among others).

And - you can dictate exactly who is allowed to see your profile or anything you post.

All my family and very many of my friends live abroad, I find it a great way to keep in contact with them as a group, and individually... and no-one else can see what we post or what we talk about, unless we choose.

However, looking at some of he 'dross' that randomly appears on my 'feed' - you do have a point.

Thank you for the warning, vampirequeen.

I recently had an email, supposedly from TV Licensing, saying that they had been unable to process my payment and asking me to click on a link to sort it out. A quick hover on the email address showed me it wasn't genuine, but at first it looked okay.

Sorry about mixing everyone up by spelling the diving family name wrong. Mind you perhaps Clouseau could track the scammer.

Oopsadaisy1

It’s a video of Jacques Cousteau and deep diving holes in the ocean. ( I’m assuming, I haven’t seen this one myself, but I have warned MrOops about it)

FB is full of entertaining short video clips of various things.

Mostly safe to click on, but when you get a wrongun it messes up your computer.

Ah, thanks!

Mr Dickens himself is another who just clicks randomly on anything that takes his fancy and consequently his computer is crawling with bugs, PUPS, and 'warnings'!

Daddima

Am I the only one who hasn’t a clue what this means?

No Daddima.

I'd like to be aware of it - but I haven't a clue what it is.

Maybe Inspector Clouseau would know?

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 04-Oct-23 10:40:38

MrOops is always clicking on links on FB it drives me crazy, he just doesn’t seem to be aware that some are scams. ATM we have a page of ads that won’t disappear they take up the whole screen and end up with a Final Warning.
Thank goodness his PC is isolated from anything else in the home, no bank details or passwords stored on it.

Squiffy Wed 04-Oct-23 10:34:38

Clouseau not Cloudeau 🙄🤦‍♀️

Squiffy Wed 04-Oct-23 10:34:04

Daddima Nope! I’m intrigued that Cloudeau is involved though! Doesn’t bode well if he’s running the show!👀😆

There is an interesting article on Facebook from the Clouseau (not sure of spelling) Foundation about driving down into deep blue holes.

Don't be taken in by it. It beats your antivirus and shuts you out of your computer. The only way to clear it is to reformat. Total nightmare.

I've clicked on thousands of interesting articles on Facebook so didn't think twice when I clicked on it. It seems that Facebook didn't detect it either.
