Following on from the multicultural thread, and please keep it positive
I was thinking
Belgium- beautiful chocolate and marvellous mussels
Vietnam- coriander, mint and fresh fish, the Mekong basin

Wales - aaah, the accents, and what beautiful countryside.
Ireland - the ability to accept all the Irish jokes, and leprechauns! 😆

England - polite people with a great sense of humour, especially about ourselves!
Scotland - Nessie, of course, and the fact that their national animal is not Nessie, like you'd assume, but actually unicorns!
That tickles me no end!!

pascal30 - I concur re Sweden! And very clean streets.

Comments re Ireland ring true too. I would add beautiful overgrown boreens where you feel part of a life from long ago. Another time.

I get this in Italy too. A sort-of feeling that long gone people once walked in this place. It is deeply moving.

The Netherlands, friendly, good food and they understand my Dutch.
France- friendly, OK food and the way it’s always the same, but never the same on any visit.

We went to Raratonga a few years back
So relaxed, friendly and lots of beautiful stray dogs skilfully catching fish round the beaches and following you around.

Singapore:

Singapore Sling at Raffles
Nasi Goreng on the Riverside

DH would say a Tiger Beer

We had Singapore Slings at the Raffles in the 70s, long before it was tarted up almost out of recognition. The old Raffles was like something out of Somerset Maugham. I loved it then - masses of fallen frangipani blossoms round the swimming pool.

My BiL and Chinese Singaporean SiL had their big Chinese wedding banquet there. (After the tart-up).
One course consisted of a slice of bright orange sea cucumber*, honestly the most disgusting thing I’ve ever struggled to swallow.
Sil said nobody likes it, but it’s traditional - presumably a fertility thing, given the size and shape of a sea cucumber!
The rest of the banquet was delicious.

We went on my birthday but didn't eat there, Witzend! Perhaps just as well 😁

Ireland - overwhelming hospitality and friendliness

Germany - trains run on time, things are well run mostly

Sorry to disappoint but the trains are a nightmare in Germany these days. We had two awful journeys getting to and from Berlin last week. Arrived 2 hours late both ways. And efficiency is not a given here, either.

Norway, clean, fresh and friendly
France. Wonderful food. Slightly arrogant people but helpful.

M0nica Fri 13-Oct-23 14:51:45

France: the kind and considerate people, the well kept roads, even the most minor rural ones, and the way chain stores have not taken over so that most restaurants are individuaally owned and run, and our local high street is full of independent traders.

The Netherlands the direct and down-to-earth people and the food. hearty and filling.

Slovenia - fantastic mountain scenery, very welcoming and helpful people.
Turkey, admittedly not recently (45 years ago), but very kind people, wonderful food.

Shush 🤫 Don’t tell people how beautiful Slovenia is, they’ll all want to visit.
