Car Insurance for over 75

I have reached 76 and my car insurance needs renewing. I’ve gone on all the compare sites and thought I might get a better deal with an insurance broker. This proved to be useless. I’ve gone to two brokers and their quotes were £700 and £600. I can only think they just don’t want my business. So back to the internet.
I pity those people who can’t use the internet as they are getting their eyes took out.
So now I’m having to pay considerably more than last year.
Talk about age discrimination.

Have you tried London Victoria or Saga?

Brokers have to take their share.

There’s another long thread about this Jjan1. Premiums have risen substantially for all age groups - cost of spare parts, uninsured drivers, etc
There were some hints on the other thread you might find useful.

It also depends on where you live, what car you drive and your mileage. I am 80 and I renewed my imsurance a couple of months ago for around £550. This did require a change of insurer.

I don't think its age discrimination as such...car insurance has increased loads for everyone this year ...me ( late 50s) ....my children ( 32 and 29) and my brother 48

I had quotes quadruple the amount I paid last Year.
No claims, no changes. Clean licence.
Be prepared. I wondered if it was because I am 75.

Mine increased by only a few pounds, about £7 I think. I did check with one other company but decided not to spend any more time searching, for such a small increase, breaking the trend.

Cabbie21 do tell, who do you insure with? grin Mine has gone up by 57%

Who are you insured with Cabbie21? I am not renewing with my current insurers as they have quoted over double what I paid last year. Will now look for an alternative! 🥱

OH and I (both 79) have just insured a new Ford Puma for £387 fully comp, legal cover, courtesy car, protected No Claims with AXA. I did it through Compare the Market. The whole process was very efficient, they are sending all documentation without me having to print it for once! So far, so good.

Surely it depends on the value of your car plus optional extra covers?
Tescos is very good.

I should say I am paying just under £600 a year for a 2 year old Electric Mini.

I have found Saga to be very helpful - like you my premium had doubled when it became due last month. I use their 3 year policy, if no claims etc are made the premium stays the same for the 3 years. I have renewed again for the next 3 years (I'm in my eighties) When I 'phoned to update my details the person I spoke to asked various questions and I ended up with a very good discount! I do add my son and daughter in law to the policy which does lower the cost. Its worth a 'phone call.

Martin Lewis confirms car insurance has risen by 61%.

I agree with the phone call but be aware Tescos charge £25 to speak to someone!
