Without naming them, yes or no, have you any famous relatives.

One of my uncles, now sadly no longer with us was.

My adopted Dad is related to a famous author of a famous series of books, and an ivory importer who started a company selling billiard and snooker balls that is still running today selling croquet sets and other traditional toys.
On my adoptive mum's side is a member of a well know 60s pop group/jazz band

A Taoiseach.

Turfmop Fri 27-Oct-23 12:15:38

Yes, me too! The nicest ones usually unexpectedly so

Turfmop Fri 27-Oct-23 12:13:10

My husband's first cousin is a famous author of family sagas

Our DIL’s sister is a fairly well known singer - if you ever travel on Jet2 you’ll know and be familiar with one of her songs 😉

HeavenLeigh Fri 27-Oct-23 12:09:20

Yes a personal trainer to the stars.

Thanks to the magic of Ancestry, I know I'm related to a Lib Dem Life Peer (3rd cousin, I'm sure he doesn't know about me!) He got himself into a bit a of scandal (no, nothing juicy ☹️) and apparently has since retired from active politics.

I did think of trying to persuade the children to curtsey to me....

Secondwind Fri 27-Oct-23 11:51:10

It’s frustrating with no names, but I’m going to follow the trend, otherwise it’d be doubly identifiable!
Not a relative, but the singer with a band that was big a few decades ago wrote and recorded a song about me.

My MILs cousin was married (2nd marriage) to the grandfather of one of the Strictly Professionals who won the glitter ball few years ago.

Yes, on my Mothers side of the family I’m related to the late Frank Finlay.
My husbands godfather was a household name and a Lord.

Oooh, Lord Lucan perhaps?

Grammaretto Wed 25-Oct-23 19:17:31

This is so interesting. I love it

I'm reminded that my DH gt g aunt was a Scottish Suffragette. He was proud of her.

Tenko Wed 25-Oct-23 19:16:59

On my mums side I’m related to Sir Henry Royce who invented the rolls Royce engine . My aunt was engaged to a famous jazz musician.
When I worked in central London I had lots of famous patients . Actors , musicians, broadcasters, singers and dancers. I used to get free tickets to shows and concerts .

I am descended from one of the Tolpuddle martyrs.

One of my cousins was the drummer in a very famous band in the seventies, he still plays now, but only as a hobby. Coincidentally, our grandson started playing drums at the age of five, and is very talented, maybe it runs in the family.
My maternal Grandfather and his elder brother were very well known in the days of Music Hall.
I am a 5x great niece of the 19th century Liberal MP, William Brown, 1st Baronet of Richmond Hill. There is a bust of him in St George's Hall, Liverpool, and there's a definite family likeness.
My Mum was a very famous name in her Trade Union, and was the scourge of the Tory party. She was quite a firebrand, but mellowed with age and retirement.
In my early twenties I dated a very well known actor, we were talking about settling down together, but he got a chance to go to Hollywood, and I didn't want to go. He was eleven years older than me and our priorities were different at that time. We stayed in touch though, and remained friends. He was definitely the best looking man I ever dated, absolutely gorgeous! Sadly, he died almost ten years ago.

My second cousin 4 times removed (!) was an artist, friend of John Keats and British Consul at Rome.

No for me.
This though reminds me of,
“I danced with a man who danced with a girl who danced with the Prince of Wales”!

Yes!

I said no, but if we’re spreading the net to include inlaws and love affairs, I can throw in a rock musician with a number 2 hit, a veteran sportswoman who broke several world records, one of the most famous names in the theatre industry, a renowned children’s author, a character they wrote a well-known song about, and a great train robber. I haven’t met any of them, not even for a quick dance. We could have a great fantasy dinner party though.

We’re a pretty boring family, but we’re well connected. grin

As DD said, when she was at university, she danced with a man who'd danced with a girl who'd danced with a man who danced with Will Young 😁

My brother was an angel in a school play, many years ago. Does that count? grin

I was a shepherd, never Mary! ☹

What a very strange thread 😂
It means nothing without naming names.Would the relatives really mind if you named them?

I agree with this

Well if they are dead they can't be asked, can they? I can name mine if you want.

Grammaretto Wed 25-Oct-23 17:45:06

I'm going to name my claims to fame 😃. I'm descended from Captain Edward Herbert, who commanded several ships under Admiral Rodney and fought the French in Martinique and grabbed the Virgin Islands for GB.

I am also connected by repute to William Blake, artist/poet/mystic but since he had no children I don't know quite how.

The legend persists.

If I go back to an ancestor in the 17th Century and then follow the descendants of his brother up to about 1900, I reach another famous cricketer. He played for Sussex and for England, and also played football for England, as well as playing other sports and standing (unsuccessfully) for election to Parliament.

Oh, and he was once offered, but turned down, the throne of Albania..

Mine was, Ned Young.
There’s even a pencil drawing of him.

Ah, didn’t see your post.
Thanks, how interesting, what a tale he had to tell once he had woken up and found out what happened.
