yes, i was surprised that sometimes adding a named driver reduces the quote slightly.
used to be the opposite.
thinking about it, i guess it might be because it is likely to be someone close to you, whom you trust, and might be travelling with on a long journey, so can share the driving, thus reducing risk from tiredness.

I seem to know so many people who just accept the renewal price. Younger people, if working don't necessarily have the time or patience to work through the websites or hang on the phone for ages. Prices seem quite random. One phone quote from a highly rated company was much higher than the renewal quote. The one I finally went for was a good price and covered everything I wanted. I was happy. Went online this morning and added DH as a named driver and got a £30 refund!
I gather that the earlier you go quote shopping the better the prices. If left till last minute the prices can rocket.

From recent threads, it’s obvious that all insurance premiums have increased, some doubled and more. Loyalty doesn’t pay these days!
Shopping around has always been my motto, as long as the cover provided is the same - I’ve a friend who took out a cheaper policy and found out the hard way, so check carefully.

Same thing with house insurance - shop around not necessarily on comparison sites - ring direct.

i think that's what most people do.
it pays to shop around.
i doubt anyone just accepts and pays the renewal quote, but beware, inertia leads to them taking the money, supposedly to ensure you have no gaps in cover.
but prices have gone up a lot since last year.
