Does anyone else follow the Flylady system of House Cleaning?

I find the dustiest room in the house seems to be the bathroom.
I’m forever cleaning up dust from the floor.

FlyLafpdy recommends 15 minutes of decluttering every day - I'm all for that 😁
But I didn't need her to tell me.

I have not used it for a while but Flylady is brilliant. I used to recommend this method to counselling clients when they felt life was spinning out of control on the home front. I have just had a really bad bout of Covid and that has made me realise that it would be good for me to get back into the Flylady method. It also means that once you are doing it properly again , you are never more than 15 minutes from being visitor ready. In recent years my husband has helped out a lot at home and we have a cleaning lady every month or so. We used to have her every week until lock-down but her home responsibilities changed and our financial situation changed so it worked for us all to have her monthly. Consequently I was doing less in the house but more in the garden which I enjoy. But now winter is coming I will do more indoors again.

I remember using it about ten years ago, and I found it very helpful as a discipline at a time when I was coming out of a rotten mental health low.

Gave the book away years ago but still stick to the cleaning of all porcelain and shelves in the bathroom every morning. That may seem a given to some but I've been amazed by those who say they wait until the bathroom looks grubby. I couldn't bear that - not just for myself but sod's law dictates that the day it became sufficiently grubby to clean(ew) would be the day I got unexpected visitors 😳

I try to do bathroom(s) every day so that's my 15 minutes used up!
What about the rest of the house?

Haven't done Flylady but love a cleaning routine! Everything done, no big jobs left to build up eg overdue oven ,grubby skirtings etc. The only way I can get on with doing the things that I love and still have a 'visitor ready home'.

Yes, same here - when I'm mulling over my last hours on earth, I don't think I'll be wishing I'd spent more time doing housework.

I've never limited myself to what men may or may not do.

It might not come up on a forum but I do know that MrA and three of his lifelong mates got together a few weeks ago and had a discussion about the best way to clean a large glass shower screen in a new shower room. They also debated the pros and cons of having tiles versus wetwall panels, problems with insuring electric cars, whether to get a Quooker tap, rugby, football and I'm sure a variety of other things.

I don't know this method. I've my own dog driven method. Hoover dog hair daily, bathrooms daily, kitchen daily, laundry often, cleaners weekly.

Oh, me too.

Why should we not talk about it, a fact of life and has to be done irrespective of who does it, employee, husband, self.
We are able to talk about more serious matters as well, one does not preclude the other.

Indeed. and the less time spend on cleaning, the more that is left for doing more interesting things.

Nannina, I don't think anyone needs someone else's regime, but there is nothing wrong with trying it out if they think it might work. Your way works for you, this way obviously works for a lot of people - what's the difference?

I have a similar regime Dickensalways make my bed,open the windows and wipe the shower after using it
The rest gets done as and when it’s needed

Why do you need someone else’s regime for housework? Even when waiting for my hip replacement I followed my own routine even though it took me a bit longer and I had to be a bit inventive cleaning the skirtings etc.

I used to do this years ago when the kids were young. I would spend an hour a day cleaning/sorting whatever was needed, broken up into ten-minute sections. So, say, ten minutes tackling the papers lying all over the kitchen table, ten minutes wiping the bathroom, ten minutes in each bedroom and so on. There were no such things as blogs in those days or I could have made a fortune!

I follow the Dickens' Method:

Toilets (I have 2) and wash basins: wipe round once a day.

Bed - make it.

The rest: if it needs doing.

Someone once wrote, "those jobs you think need doing every day can probably be done once a week... and the jobs you do once a week might well be able to be done once a month"
