Giovanni and Amanda Abbington on Strictly

I expect other dance couples have riled each other on Strictly and managed to work together in the end.

This story has been simmering for a while with cryptic messages and quotes being quoted. From both sides, I think. Does anyone else think that Amanda Abbington has shot herself in the foot by issuing a statement in which she thanks ev eryone but the kitchen sink but, noticeably omits Giovanni!

It does point to her being somewhat embittered. Giovanni has been much more dignified about the matter.

I think the 'celebrities' underestimate the hard work and commitment required to be able to learn a dance routine.

Amanda whatsoname just wasn't willing to do it. The lure of a nice big payment for a few months work.

As lemsip says there are a number of wonen making allegations.

I just knew he'd smell gorgeous.

Me too

Anniebach Sun 19-May-24 10:13:00

So very unusual for GN, a woman makes allegations against a man and the woman is criticised,

I love this guy as a dance professional but if thete are complaints someone should look.

Why didn't they look before?
Or did nobody complain?

She probably put her foot in the wrong place under his! Easily done! grin

Amanda Abbington has reportedly accused Giovanni Pernice of 'stamping on her foot' during his 'militant' training sessions on Strictly Come Dancing.

The professional dancer, 33, who vehemently denies any claims of threatening or abusive behaviour and has vowed to 'clear his name', stepped down from the show after eight years this week.

It comes as the BBC investigates 'serious workplace misconduct claims' by three of his celebrity partners.
.......................................

surely she's not suggesting he done it on purpose!

Do all train 12 hours a day ?

Do you mean the contestants or the professionals like Giovanni, Anniebach?
Strictly professional dancers will work around 12 hours a day, not just dancing but choreographing, selecting music, discussing sets, costumes, make up, basically refining every part of the number they perform. The celebrity performers are contracted to work 12 hours a week. Big difference, though that time obviously includes additional group dances too.
When you work with people who really know how to dance it's easy to put together routines in a short time. It's hard work with others. You have to keep adjusting..

No I don't think so Annie - bug it really shows if they do!

I think many don't realise that for "x" weeks this is their job.

Do all train 12 hours a day ?

Don’t care for her as she's always been prickly, making things difficult, she’s shot herself in the foot this time. She’s a lot to cope with in her private life, she knows how her future will be now and it’s not easy.

Joseann Sat 18-May-24 20:48:53

That's true, re Will, but he went against medical advice to enter the competition. He was already suffering panic attacks, sometimes 24 hours a day.

Deedaa Sat 18-May-24 20:45:33

I think Will Young left after he was criticised by the judges. He didn't seem to realise that that's the point of the show.

Apparently Amanda is complaining about training for 12 hours a day and being on her own with Giovanni without any of the other contestants. I don't know how you reach the necessary standard without this level of commitment.

I suspect that the PTSD might be a result of the awful accident but became more serious with the regime and stress of 'Strictly'.
I think you're spot on here Barbadosbelle.
Anyone who has a background in Dance, knows the commitment and discipline this form of Art demands. It's 100% and I am surprised that anyone with severe mental issues put themselves forward for the dedication the training requires. For example, I remember Will Young dropping out very early on.

Lemsip

The accident was in 2021 shortly after they met and, after a whirlwind romance, became engaged. He incurred horrific injuries including the loss of a kidney, a broken spine and severing his spinal cord. He is in a wheelchair and was due another serious operation in the early part of 2024.

They're a tight couple but no doubt it must be difficult to clear your mind and be logical about some things. I suspect that the PTSD might be a result of the awful accident but became more serious with the regime and stress of 'Strictly'.

Oooh, envy

Grandmadinosaur Sat 18-May-24 17:56:53

I agree Kitty I think he has produced some of the best routines on SCD and I will miss him too. I adore that Charleston with Georgia in his first series. Watched it many times on YouTube.

Can I just add that I’ve been lucky to have met him a couple of times and he was absolutely lovely and always smelt amazing too 😍

kittylester Sat 18-May-24 12:59:04

Agree to a certain extent, ferry, but none of those are quite like Giovanni!!

ferry23 Sat 18-May-24 12:33:13

There's always going to be natural wastage on the show - either contracts not renewed by the BBC or the dancer leaving of their own accord.

But I do feel this has been somewhat forced upon him and it's a shame as he's a great choreographer and popular with the viewers.

I can remember when the likes of Brendan and Ian Waite left, Vincent and Flavia...etc - I thought it wouldn't be the same without them but how quickly we forget and find some new favourites!

Clawdy Sat 18-May-24 12:00:18

When he partnered Georgia May Foote (who can forget their amazing charleston!) he helped her to move out from an abusive relationship and was very kind to her.

I'm interested in him because he is a brilliant dancer, genius choreographer and not bad looking either. blush

Absolutely spot on!

lemsip Sat 18-May-24 10:24:10

A source told the publication: “He wants to focus on other TV projects, and feels he’s achieved all he can on Strictly, having won the trophy back in 2021 and reaching the final an unprecedented four times.”

giovanni won't be short of work that's for sure.

the three females who got together to complain about him should have pulled out of the show at the time not grizzle to each other couple of years later.

Joseann Fri 17-May-24 11:59:11

I'm glad some Strictly friends on here like to chat.
That's why I mentioned it on Chat and not on N & P!
I don't think Giovanni will be short of work, but his choreography will be missed on the show.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-May-24 09:59:49

Oh kitty I agree 😍🤗
