The M & S Advent Calendar is now available.

Full price £340, if you spend more than £35 on full price clothing it’s available to purchase for £45.

(Yes I have ordered for myself and DD)

Ugh, I don’t like that at all - what a dismal message. sad

I’m hoping the JL one is better (it usually is). I enjoy a good tearjerker at Christmas. I also like the way JL don’t put their advert out until after Remembrance Day. Or at least they never used to - I hope it still applies.

My post was in reply to Joseann’s, not to your lovely calendar, Jaxjacky! smile

Advent calendars are just a bit if fun. If they're not to your taste then fair enough but there's no need to express your distain for them. Some people are religious, others aren't and that doesn't mean all religious people don't also enjoy a bit of fun at Christmas. Some people seem intent on making the world more miserable than it is already. Do cheer up and accept that other people get joy from things that you don't.

I recovered my Advent Calendar from its ‘safe place’ yesterday, so it’s ready, but not hung up yet.

I like that, Jaxjacky!
Here’s mine - found it in the 🎄card shop in the town centre church.

I do kind of agree with you to a certain extent Bluebell, even though I bought the MandS one this year for reasons stated up thread. Overt consumerism around the Christmas festival wasn't part of my upbringing, or I imagine many others of my age group and the worst excesses feel so over the top, I long for a simpler age. We had our presents and special Christmas food, stockings and selection boxes, but the religious celebration was foremost. Money spent on presents was modest, but what we got was, I think, treasured.

I personally don't like the showcasing of conspicuous wealth by well known people, I think it can be in poor taste.

Interesting research Joseann

Greyisnotmycolour - I do not have disdain for others enjoying their Advent calendars, nor would I ever try to make more misery in this world for others - that is just absurd!!!

You don’t know me, I’m kind of religious but am not affiliated with a church any longer - still a believer. I’m the biggest Christmas nut you’ll never meet.

Advent calendars are for anyone’s pleasure these days. I was commenting how corporations hijacked the Advent calendar meaning for PROFIT! I guess even companies need to have fun figuring out a way of how to dispose of some outdated and unpopular merchandise (cosmetics) that you might not use.

But the meaning is all about giving and having fun. I’m all for it. I just don’t have the money for those real pricey ones.
Have a g’day!

Has anyone seen the M & S Christmas advert, set to Meatloaf's, "I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that"? I'm a bit puzzled by it, I think it means do just what you want and bother the rest of them, but it's certainly not up there with the true message of Christmas ones.
Bring on the John Lewis Christmas advert, hope it's a tear jerky meaningful one.

Thus advert deserves its own thread.
Best Xmas ad ever.
