and how long do you sleep.

I generally get into bed at around 3am, but I can't sleep until at least 9.30/10.00am, and even then, it's for a maximum of 2.5 hours.
I generally sleep maybe 3 times a week for a weekly grand total of between 6.5 and 7 hours

We eat at 7pm and the dogs and i go to bed at 8pm. They snooze and i do all sorts. Check dogs under threat of death in Ohio’s Columbus shelter and write posts to get them help. Check my bank accountd online, do Sudokus in Tomes and Telegraph and then settle down to watch a couple of good murders. Otherwise i listen to my audio books. Sometimes i fall asleep but then at 11pm i take my little dogs outside for a last wer. Then the light goes off and i switch on to the old 3 hour shows by Steve Allen and i am asleeep until i have to go to the loo about 4am and all the tome Steve was burbling away in the backgrojnd. I live with my som and like to give him
Peace and quiet after a long day at work so he watched football and dome esoteric TV shows that need real attention. I am ashamed to say i even watched Big Brother last night. No intellect required for that! I do not sleerp very well and never have. Who cares at my age?

I'm in bed by 9pm most nights as still working full time and usually ready to drop by then! Get woken up at least once to go to the loo but usually sleep well until I get up about 6.30ish.

Love my bed! Hot blanket on about 8.30 then jump in as soon after nine as possible. Sometimes read, sometimes listen to audio books. Usually wake about 5.30 and light on at 6am. Cuppa in bed and read the paper on my iPad then up about 8 am.

I’m terrible…started decades ago…live alone, go to bed at c. 1/2 am, occasionally earlier. Can’t ever sleep til 3/4am so read etc til I get sleepy…the get up when I wake …usually about 12 midday! If I have an appointment or similar I have to set the alarm, but I’m like a wet lettuce if I don’t get 8 hours somehow!
I’m 77, have kidney disease and type 2 unmedicated diabetes, asthma etc, so am fatigued as part of those diseases.
I work part time/ semi retired, from home so am a night owl.
. It all started with sleep apnoea decades ago ( maybe even earlier, as the only time I had to myself was late at night when the kids were asleep?) - I hated the sleep apnoea mask and could not put it on til the late early hours when I was exhausted, which was 3/4am …and so began a pattern. Oddly it suits me, and I can work with it, but it’s highly anti-social! I just work things around the problem …but there are days I have to be up at 8.30. And that kills me! And YES,I’ve tried every sleep remedy under the sun - I always relapse!
As a youngster I always assumed ‘old’ people automatically got up early as they needed less sleep…total opposite is the case for me!

1. when i feel like it and depending on what is happening the next day

Generally go to bed at 11pm. Up at 130to toilet, due to the new meds, then again at 3.30am. Up at 730 to start the day.

I have alwaqys required more sleep than the majority of my age. Great nuisance when I was yung, although I managed happily when I was doing night feeds for babies. As I fostered very m any newborns, did night feed for a long time, my opprtunity to read. Loved the peace and quiet of these feeds.

In my eighties now, and I turn off my laptop by 8 eachevening, (we are warned not to watch screens if we want a good nights sleep). Do have tv on, (using recorded programmes on my Hiumax, and avoid late night news). G to bed beween .9.30 and 10.00. ONce in bed, I sit up''doing paoer Sudoki puzzles and listening to audio books. Around 10..30 -11.00 settle down to sleep (after one last visit to loo). Usually manage to get to sleep within half an hour. Usually wake just after 2 pm for trip to Loo,, back to bed and fall back to sleep. Another sometime between 4.30 and five then back to sleep and wake up with alarm at 7.45.

I do need to sleep during the day, particularly after my light lunch at midday, for about an hour, and then again for about half any hour after my evening meal at 5. 30pm.

Witzend Tue 31-Oct-23 09:07:55

When I’m tired, which is often by 10 pm nowadays. I will almost always read for at least half an hour before nodding off, though, and same again when I’m awake in the night. I’m often downstairs in the small hours making a cup of tea or cocoa to take back to bed.

How tired I am/how late it is when I go to bed unfortunately has absolutely no bearing on whether I sleep relatively well or not.

SporeRB Tue 31-Oct-23 08:58:51

Went to bed at 12:30am last night and woke up at 7:30am this morning with one trip to the toilet. So 7 hours sleep in total but still feel tired.

My sleep pattern is so erratic, I usually went to sleep at 1am, lie awake up to 4am and get up sometimes as late as half 11. Since taking a teaspoon of cod liver oil with vitamin D, my body clock seems to slowly reset itself.

I have turned on the blue light filter on my Samsung tablet which I use to read my e-books. I found out that the blue light can stimulates the brain and makes the brain thinks it is still daylight when it is nighttime and interfere with falling to sleep.

Today is Halloween. Will be going to my Zumba Gold class this morning dress up as a witch. It will hilarious seeing the ladies in their 60s and 70s in their Halloween costumes exercising to creepy songs like Michel Jackson’s triller.

It was a bit of a relief to read these posts! I have always been an owl and sometimes worry that I should be having the regulation 7 hours per night. I have the same routine, watch TV and then at 11.00pm I switch over to GB News for the newspaper reviews which finishes at midnight. I give the cat her late night snack, put a few bits in the dishwasher ready for the morning and go and have my shower. By the time I get into bed it is 01.15 which is when I watch stuff on my phone/ipad, usually sites I have subscribed to ending with a trawl through Gransnet! I make myself turn the light out by 0300 but rarely fall asleep for what seems like ages. I'm up at 8.30am as a rule when my OH usually starts moving around having been in bed since 10.30pm! He thinks I am mad but I just don't seem able to change this routine.

We go to bed between 8pm and 8.30pm. It's just gone 9pm so this is a rare late night for me. I fall asleep within minutes and sleep through until around 6am when DH wakes me up. If he didn't then I'd sleep on and on and on. DH goes to bed. Gets up about 11pm. Comes back to bed about 12.30am. Gets up again about 2am. Comes back to bed about 4am and gets up for the last time at about 5.30am. I sleep through all his comings and goings.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 30-Oct-23 20:54:54

I usually go at about 10.30-11. I get to sleep fairly quickly, wake 2 or 3 times in the night, and eventually get up between 7 and 8

Ziplok Mon 30-Oct-23 19:37:05

No set time for me, it varies depending upon whether there’s something interesting on tv or if I get into a book, puzzle, etc. Some nights, I feel sleepy quite early, so go to bed, other nights I don’t so stay up longer. Sometimes I’ll read in bed a little before putting the light out, sometimes not. Waking up time varies, too. I rarely sleep all the way through the night, wish I could and rarely drop straight off to sleep, even when I feel sleepy.

crazyH Mon 30-Oct-23 19:00:49

Sleeping beauties - I envy you 🤢

spottysocks Mon 30-Oct-23 18:42:17

I go to bed just after 9pm read or watch TV for about an hour or so before going to sleep. Usually wake up about 7am

Daddima Mon 30-Oct-23 18:24:01

Looks like I’m the only ‘baby’ who can be in bed by 7! Mind you, that means reading or listening to audiobooks for a while, then sleeping fitfully from around 11, and up and doing by 7a.m.

paddyann54 Mon 30-Oct-23 14:54:51

Never before 1am,you'll often find us dancing round the living room at 2amWell I say dancing its more a slow walk ,OH isn't much of a dancer so its a cuddle to music. We've always been night owls ,up around 9am whatever time we go up even the 4am nights.

kircubbin2000 Mon 30-Oct-23 14:26:14

About 10.30 and wake at 7. Up several times in the night and I say to myself it's 2.00 or 3.30 etc and I am usually correct.

MiniMoon Mon 30-Oct-23 13:47:44

I go to bed between 10 and 11. I do a mahjong puzzle or two and then read my book. I try to settle to sleep by 11:30, but if I'm engrossed in the book it could be 1am.
I usually rise by about 8:30, after 1 or 2 bathroom visits during the night.

MamGu12 Mon 30-Oct-23 13:25:34

Thanks for all you replies , it’s good know I am not the only one awake and listening to audiobooks etc in the wee small hours .

biglouis Mon 30-Oct-23 11:23:43

Running an international business that sells mainly to Americans I like to be awake when my customers are online. I rarely go to bed before 3 or 4 am and sometimes 5 am! Ive always been a night owl and prefer to sleep during the day unless I have a definite appointment. I usually have a 3-4 hour nap late afternoon to early evening. So I average about 7-8 hours sleep in every 24. Thats sufficient for an adult.

crazyH Mon 30-Oct-23 10:34:50

Owl here . Up to bed by midnight, but I’m still awake , reading till about 2 a.m. Sleep till about 5.30, loo break, back to bed, sleep till about 8.30. Not a good pattern at all 😫

hollysteers Mon 30-Oct-23 10:22:37

I have always been an owl and feel like death in the morning, even after an early night. It’s a real struggle. Apparently I’m a heavy snorer, so that must take it out of me, it’s a hard day’s night! I’ve been a singer most of my life too, so performing at night and travelling have made many mornings a write-off.

Ailidh I too have patches of fear of not sleeping, particularly if I have something important first thing the next day, catching a flight or similar. I can lie awake longing for sleep, it’s horrible.
