Good Morning Friday 10th November 2023
(51 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Dark but dry at the moment here in brackley .
Today I plan to do the usual trip to Bicester on the bus , but will wear more seasonal clothing with cold conditions forecast .
My health at the moment signs of improvement as to weight and things in general .
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning Mick and all from sunny Lancashire, currently 6°C. Glad your health is improving Mick, long may it continue.
Today I’m writing a piece about the young men of my family who died in the Great War, to be included in a Remembrance Day commemoration. I plan to write a comparison piece about those who served and survived but may not have time to do it for this year’s commemoration.
Safe journey home from your happy place Urms.
Congratulations to your DD Marydoll, glad things seem to be looking up for you.
RosiesMaw a difficult day for sure
.
I hope today is a better one Kalu, you certainly need all your strength at the moment
.
I hope the day brings some hope for those who are unwell or unhappy 🌹
Good morning all from a frost covered Glasgow.
What a lovely caring bunch of women you are. Your messages of support were just what I needed yesterday to prop me up with the strength I had lost sight of. I am so grateful to all of you, thank you
DH began showing signs of improvement in the early hours this morning. I watched over him like a hawk last night looking for signs of a relapse just as I did with patients when I worked in cancer wards but this time it was my darling man, a completely different scenario. I am happy to say further signs of improvement are showing. Onwards and sideways again.
Best wishes to all for a good day and an easier day hopefully for all who have their own struggles and worries.
Maw, special thoughts for today.

Hoping you have a better day Kalu

Bright and sunny in Eden.

Morning from frosty South Lanarkshire, I’m posting today before reading as it seems to take me ages and I must get on this morning. I’ll read with my coffee later, something to look forward to.
8 year old DGS coming for the weekend, his sister is going to Edinburgh tomorrow for a birthday treat with her auntie and with both of them away DD can have a well earned rest.
I’m not entirely sure what we are going to do but it will involve my first visit to McDonald’s, greater love hath no boy!
I’m in my pre Christmas muddle which I don’t find fun anymore so a list making day first to clear my head and then I can properly enjoy my lively grandson.
I don’t suppose I’ll have time to post so I’ll wish everyone a pleasant weekend with a little respite from cares and concerns.
👏👏👏 Marydoll - congratulations!
Good morning all from a fine and very still N Bucks.
Didn’t post at all yesterday and the day just disappeared.
I had Arts Society in the morning, then an invitation to an early (very early) pre-Christmas lunch at our Treasurer and his wife’s, walked Rosie when I came home and then when I went upstairs to shut the curtains around 5, I thought I might have a lie down as I was feeling cold.
I woke up at 10 to 9 !
It’s a difficult time as it’s the anniversary of Paws death and I have had sad flashbacks and “moments”
However, D2 and GS are coming to stay the night this evening , D3 , SIL and the little boys looking in tomorrow morning from London and we are all off to Birmingham for a family lunch to celebrate GS2 turning 12.
Nice to be all together!
Wishing you all a peaceful and pleasant day.
I forgot to say. DD picked up a national award last night on behalf of her company, for providing a living wage for its employees. She is dyslexic and dyspraxic, I am so proud of what she has managed to achieve in her career.
EkwaNimitee, we didn't want a smart meter. We came home one day to find it had been changed!
Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle, not a cloud in the sky. We seem to have had a touch of frost in the night and my upstairs CH, on a different circuit from downstairs, had kicked in. I like to keep my bedrooms a lot cooler than downstairs so that's a useful feature of the house.
Nothing much was done yesterday, after getting up at 5am to call Australia, I lacked the energy to do anything more than potter at this and that. There's not a lot I need to do today either but I have a list of little jobs I could do, but probably won't!
Marydoll, you have totally put me off getting a smart meter...I am on a list for one apparently but might refuse it whenever it's offered. In my last residence, I had one that worked perfectly for gas and electricity but yours is not the only tale of smart meter woe I hear these days. How do those idiots manage to run a company?!
Off to do not much, have the best possible day everyone.
Awaiting yet another set of expensive experts this morning to reinstate the stairlift after the hall floor renewal. We bought the stairlift for DH and since the stairs are wide and it doesn’t get in the way I have kept it for bad back days and carrying heavy loads upstairs. Otherwise a domestic days with stuff to pay and/or deal with including trying to find out why Ovo failed to show up yesterday as arranged. They are absolutely hopeless and I have lost all patience with them.
Hope Urms and Himself have a good journey home, that Marydoll has a wonderful granny day, that Susan’s little H has a better day and that, despite the rain, we all have a good enough day.
Good morning all from the Angus coast. It's cold at 3° with a thick hoar frost, and the sun is just rising with a rosy glow. This is the winter weather I love, with clear crispy air. The towel wash will be ready to hang out by the back of 9 and there's a quick lighter wash ready to go on after - where does it all come from?
So glad you're feeling so much better Mick - it's been a long time.
This will soon be over grandmattie and very worth it. What a struggle you've had to get this far.
Urms safe flight home to you both after your refreshing break.
Enjoy your last little while together Ash and dudders - who's travelling for Christmas this year?
My tai chi class yesterday was much more successful than it has been of late. We've been together, most of us, for nigh on 10 years and the teaching was becoming more nit-picky than instructive. So I'm having to resort to 'playing' with the set and moves. There were a few mutterings the first week I did this - they didn't like coming out of their comfort zone! - but yesterday I received comments such as "I enjoyed that" (said with surprise 😉). It's been a salutary lesson to me too - I know I'm a bit fanatical too serious about the precision of the moves etc. Anyway, the changes seem to have given us all a new lease of life which is all to the good.
AND the fishmonger gave me a pound (£) off my fish order yesterday as I was a good customer! My lucky day indeed.
Anyway, that's enough of my ramblings. I shall be off and do some doings.
Kalu thoughts,
and a hug.
Marydoll glad things are looking up for you.
Everyone, have a lovely cosy day x
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders frozen north where there's a hard frost.
I'm not working today but will go to a sculpture class this afternoon. It's over 2 days and I am looking forward to it, if apprehensive.
I do believe you are quite enjoying the deprivations gMattie as long as it doesn't take too long 😊
Sounds like it's going to be fun at the Doll household but B***r the gas business.
I hope you are recovering from the cruise trauma glamma.
Thoughts are with Kalu and Urms today.
Good morning from a dry NE.
Heating engineer arrived at 9am and serviced the boiler, everything fine. When told me to ring the office and arrange for a plumber to take a look at my en suite toilet, he felt sure that they could repair the cistern without ripping all the tiles off the wall. I have an appointment for 22 nd November, after 18 months of being without, I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Sister rang to say she was back home in Germany, worst part of the journey was getting to Newcastle airport during rush hour.
Dicky tummy last night, my stoma is not friends with me at present.
Safe journey home Urmston.
Thoughts are with those with problems.
Good morning Mick and all from rainy Berkshire. Just arrived from a night flight from Bahrain and feel like death. Even though it was business class, I only slept at most a couple of hours. Later this morning I travel up to the northwest by train when I will take up a recovery position 😁 Even though I adore travelling, I’m not a particularly good one and tire easily.
Glad you are feeling more yourself Mick, hope you are feeling better today Kalu and glad you enjoyed your well deserved break Urms
Good morning from Durham, where it’s dry, sunny but cold.
I’ve to drop some documents off in a strange place this morning - I’ll need to set the sat-nav.
Nail appointments this afternoon with DD2 but timed hours apart, so as I have several hours to waste, might wander into Newcastle.
Safe travels for those on the move today. I feel your frustration MaryD it’s times like this when you regret the loss of face to face locations.
Kalu 💐
Best wishes to all. X
A bright morning here in Co Armagh, seasonally chilly as well !
I’ll need to wrap up well for painting class the hall has great light , which means big windows , letting in the cold ! No pleasing me these days
Thoughts with the worried and the poorly 🕯️
Good morning from a so far dry Suffolk. My earlier post has just disappeared! That has never happened to me before but very frustrating when it does.
Sorry to hear Gingster you are feeling unwell and hope you get better as the day progresses and also anyone else feeling under the weather.
I’m going to Norwich to meet a friend for lunch and think I’ll get the express bus from a nearby town. So much quicker than the nearest park and ride. No doubt I’ll find time for a browse in John Lewis and Jarrolds and a wander round the market in the city centre which has a collection of fascinating stalls.
Hope all have a pleasant day especially those with worries .
Morning from damp S Hampshire, it’s drizzling after rain overnight.
Autumn Bliss are the best karmalady, I used to have them on my allotment.
I’ve found my missing jumpers this morning, packed away in the old airing cupboard, good.
Last exam pickup for Imogen today, a walk if the rain eases and grocery delivery pm.
Safe journey Urmstongran and himself and to all other travellers.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. A lovely sunrise greeted me as I opened the kitchen blind. Hoping for a dry day as I am off walking with a friend then we are having lunch in Thirsk.
Wishing you all a good day, safe travels, happy times with grandchildren and functioning bathrooms.
Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, its only 0°C.
Yesterday after the surgery visit I dropped bags at the charity shop and a then TKMaxx next door. 😍There were no trolleys, which curbed my spending. I couldn't carry much, but I did buy Dollie a karaoke machine for her birthday. DD will not be pleased. 😂
I came home to an email from Scottish Gas, in response to an email sent on Thursday, regarding our ongoing complaint and the most recent episode in the saga of the faulty smart meter. ( We can no longer input any readings on our account.)
The email from Scottish Gas was a request to us to close our official complaint and offered us counselling for our £5000 debt! !! I was incandescent, as they had already agreed this was incorrect and having asked for our patience, they were investigating! 🤬🤬🤬🤬.
The agent obviously hadn't read any of the correspondence, regarding our original complaint, despite having been giving the ref. no. and was obviously fobbing us off.
I am at my wits end. Another week and we can contact the Energy Ombudsman.
We have Dollie overnight, but what she isn't aware of, is that Babydoll will be also here when papa brings her. It's been difficult not to let it slip. I can't wait to see her face.
My heart was breaking yesterday, when I read my friend's Kalu's post. I have no words.
Lovely photo yesterday, Hollysteers Glamma, I hope you are recovering, what a disappointment that your cruise was ruined.
Best wishes for all those with illness or sorrow. GM hang on in there!
Kalu I hope you are feeling better today
