What an insult to 348 (excl Sunak & Braverman) Tory MPs that the PM does not consider any of them are ‘good enough’ to serve as Foreign Secretary. As many have commented, serving from the Lords, Cameron won't be subject to MPs questions. Just how weak/scared/stupid is the current PM?

Never mind inviting him back, what possesses the man himself to want to return? He has a nice comfortable life with his family. Madness!

Smileless2012

He assured the country he would remain in his post regardless of the result LilyoftheValley and within hours of the result being known, he resigned. That to me is not the act of falling on one's sword, more like spitting his dummy out.

Absolutely, Smileless2012

There are some short memories on here.

I’m afraid I don’t agree. He messed up the remain campaign big time, left an unholy mess behind him when he took his ball home and resigned and which we are still trying to recover from now.

WhenIwasyourage/Smileless - not at all. He did the honourable thing and fell on his sword!!

He was traumatised by losing the Remain campaign, which was in fact poorly conceived in the arrogant assumption that he would win.
This is now a humbler man.
I hope that he will be able to reforge links with the EU. Sunak was a Leaver, but perhaps he now realises what a mistake that was for the UK, in spite of his Indian family.
We shall eventually rejoin the EU, but not in my lifetime, regrettably,

I could not believe it when I heard of Cameron's return. He presided over the Brexit mess and then ran for the hills. This is all turning into a comedy show!

I agree he appears more sincere and seemingly rational than most of the cabinet and will bring back some of the moderates who dislike the hard right stance of the party since 2019.

He had the integrity to resign after the referendum result because, as a committed remainer, he felt that he could not properly lead the country out of the EU. A man of principle. Unlike Johnson who tossed a coin to decide which side to support (i.e. which side he would gain most from supporting).

No I agree. No backbone. Ran off when Brexit won
.

Smileless2012 Mon 13-Nov-23 15:12:13

hmmnot enough of a backbone to stay on as PM after the referendum result wasn't what he expected.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 13-Nov-23 15:10:56

No he hasn’t or he wouldn’t have mismanaged the referendum in 2016 then taken his ball home when he didn’t like the result. Backbone, eh?

What a very clever move indeed to bring David Cameron back into the Cabinet. Tories all must be shaking in their boots with a General Election nigh and the shambolic government at present.

David Cameron was respected by a great many people and his return must give a much needed boost to Tory morale. The chap has a backbone.
