Endometriosis charity appoints trans woman as the new head of the organisation.

Endometriosis South Coast (ESC) has appointed transgender Labour activist Steph Richards as the organisations new head.

It's a debilitating, distressing and extremely painful condition that can result in miscarriage and can lead to infertility. Why on earth would anyone not want a biological female in such an important and possibly influential role when this condition can only affect natal women?

OldFrill you say ‘Or is it just 'trans' that bothers so many of you?’

I really don’t think that is the case. I believe it is the watering down of women, the refusal to say women, women’s rights being less important than men’s and trans women’s rights.

Why are ‘some’ transwomen so threatening ?

Our mothers and grandmothers fought for women’s rights and now what they achieved is disappearing in plain sight.

It is a frightening world we live in imo.

I just hope this person was the best for the job and not some kind of political statement. I don’t like the sound of the immature tweets, if indeed they are correct and not one of these press beat ups.

Galaxy Thu 16-Nov-23 06:27:03

As I have said I dont play identity politics but I also dont pretend men are women.

OldFrill Thu 16-Nov-23 06:25:08

Trans men can also suffer from endometriosis.
Did Laura Kirby have to justify her position as CEO of Prostate Cancer UK? Did their donations take a nose dive because a woman and not a man was given that position. Or is it just 'trans' that bothers so many of you?

Galaxy Thu 16-Nov-23 06:21:07

Oh I am sure they will be the priority.

^When SR said ‘The vast majority who have Endometriosis are women’ who was SR referring to who had it, but weren’t women^ ?

Oh dear.

Perhaps he meant girls under 18? It can affect girls at quite a young age and needs early diagnosis.

Men can get endometriosis, particularly men on hormone therapy, Prostate Cancer sufferers. It is rare but should not be forgotten.

I listened to this mornings interview on BBC Woman’s Hour. Emma Barnett undertook a great interview, with Steph loosing her temper and refusing to say woman.

I have had a close friend pass away last year after 30 years of excruciating pain and not being believed as a woman about her pain.

The trustees of that charity should be asking themselves some serious questions.

NanKate Wed 15-Nov-23 16:17:59

I agree Vintage they could not properly answer EB’s probing questions.

Vintagewhine Wed 15-Nov-23 15:50:36

I heard the woman's hour interview and was not impressed. Not a good choice and the charity's founder didn't seem able to explain why Steph was a good candidate.

Steph Richards did not come across well this morning on Woman’s Hour. Emma Barnett was excellent in her interview technique and SR could not imo justify her position working for this charity.

Women and women’s Rights are being slowly eradicated and this worries me greatly for the future of today’s young women.

'Strutting my stuff' is a theatrical expression and not gender specific.

Ilovecheese Wed 15-Nov-23 12:49:07

A man says "strutting my stuff" where a woman would say "walking about"

Watch this charity’s donations dry up now. 😉

If the tweet is genuine (has it been verified?), I think some will feel that 'strutting your stuff' is the wrong message. And fanning the flames between the two demographics is a bad move for the CEO of a charity set up to alleviate the suffering of women affected by endometriosis.

I suspect you might be right tho' about donations drying up - which is a shame. I don't think it's a charity that gets huge donations anyway - in comparison to some of the others.

I didn't object initially- if you've got a skill - you've got a skill regardless of your gender identity. But the focus should be on the job, not your personal political / gender identity battle!

Not only is this individual a man, but is openly misogynist, as evidenced by his posts on X including “See you in hell if you are a #terf, nothing will stop me from strutting my stuff.”
What a kick in the teeth for women from a charity that should be supporting us - shameful.

Being anti-terf is not misogynistic, as l suspect you well know.
Reliable source to your claims of posts on X and there context would be appreciated.

Dickens Tue 14-Nov-23 18:38:16

I saw the heading, and thought, "so what?"

Then I saw the post about the tweet aimed at "terfs".

If true, I would object on those grounds, alone.

Smileless2012 Tue 14-Nov-23 18:07:14

that not than

Smileless2012 Tue 14-Nov-23 18:06:15

Well you obviously thought the OP was worth answering paddyann because you've done so.

I don't agree than anyone whose openly misogynist is a suitable candidate for this position.

Galaxy Tue 14-Nov-23 18:04:31

Yes I can still picture the misogynistic doctor who discussed my PCOS, I was very young and not confident enough to stand up to him.

Callistemon21 Tue 14-Nov-23 18:01:54

Of course it's fine, no-one is disputing that.

Unless, of course, he is a misogynist.

In all the years I have had medical treatment, I have come across juet two misogynistic doctors, one a gynacological registrar, one a locum GP and the nurses in both cases expressed their concerns.

It was two too many.

paddyann54 Tue 14-Nov-23 17:52:29

the gynaecologist I see is male he has no personal experience of the issues .I've had for more than a decade ..BUT he's a brilliant caring ,,helpful man .As was the previous gynae doctor I saw .Surely we're past this nonsense ,if the new person in the job got it on merit then its not even worth answering the OP.I remember a husband having to be dragged away from a male midwife in the 70's when his wife was in labour ,I thought we'd all grown up since then!

Well that is a cause for concern,

Where's the Minister for Common Sense?

grannypiper Tue 14-Nov-23 17:45:50

I am more worried about his aggressive Tweets.

Callistemon21 Tue 14-Nov-23 17:15:41

And - it requires someone with empathy, even if they have not experienced it themselves, to head up this charity.

I hope he has empathy as well as the skills required to help those with this distressing condition.
