Endometriosis charity appoints trans woman as the new head of the organisation.

You could argue that he has at least as much knowledge of the condition as a natal woman who has not suffered from it. I don’t consider it’s necessary to suffer from endometriosis, or to be a natal woman, in order to be the head of the charity.

I was infuriated when I read this earlier. Maybe a trans man should be in charge of a charity for erectile dysfunction!

You do not have to suffer a condition to work in that field, do you think that GPs have personnel experience of all the conditions there patients have.

I had endometriosis when I was younger, my gynaecologist was male, he was kind, considerate and empathetic.

Without him I wouldn’t be a Mum.

If this person got the job on merit and experience so be it.

I'm not saying that anyone does have to suffer with a particular condition to work in a particular field TheExwife, I'm questioning the sense of this particular appointment, and Beverley's post makes the appointment IMO even more questionable.

Women with endometriosis can have children. It can lead to fertility issues but does not mean you cant have children.

My sister in law and two friends had endometriosis. None were able to have children. Although I haven’t suffered from it I have witnessed the physical pain and the mental pain of not being able to have children. Yes Glorianny, we can imagine what it’s like and thank God it’s not us.

GSM, I agree with you. Why should she not head the charity? Lots of people manage the treatment of conditions that they have no personal experience of. Is this an issue about a trans woman or about a person with no experience of endometriosis? Either way if they can do the job - why not? I recognize that the trans issue is difficult for people to understand but it has been around for a very long time but is now acknowledged! Hard as it is we must accept.

The important thing is ability to raise awareness of this cruel condition, provide a source of comfort for sufferers and raise money for research and publicity. I couldn’t care less if it was a green man with two heads if they could do that.

And - it requires someone with empathy, even if they have not experienced it themselves, to head up this charity.

I hope he has empathy as well as the skills required to help those with this distressing condition.

the gynaecologist I see is male he has no personal experience of the issues .I've had for more than a decade ..BUT he's a brilliant caring ,,helpful man .As was the previous gynae doctor I saw .Surely we're past this nonsense ,if the new person in the job got it on merit then its not even worth answering the OP.I remember a husband having to be dragged away from a male midwife in the 70's when his wife was in labour ,I thought we'd all grown up since then!

In all the years I have had medical treatment, I have come across juet two misogynistic doctors, one a gynacological registrar, one a locum GP and the nurses in both cases expressed their concerns.

It was two too many.

Yes I can still picture the misogynistic doctor who discussed my PCOS, I was very young and not confident enough to stand up to him.
