Good Morning Wednesday 22nd November 2023

After a lovely WI meeting yesterday making angels from unwanted paperback books - who knew? - I overslept and have spent the morning catching up before singing this afternoon. As ever I am impressed by all that so many of you do and wish my time was as productive, but guess that a slower pace of life is not necessarily a bad thing.

Scapa1 I know exactly the garden centre you mean! I used to live in Larbert and it was very handy! Dgs2 is munching a mini milky way after a big bowl of lentil soup and a yoghurt. We have been out for a walk and he's happy playing with cars. Glammagran I feel your pain! Ladies, I'm surviving. Dgs2 has been pretty well behaved today so far and he's just gone for a nap, giving me some peace.

Scripts to collect, GD2’s Christmas present which I ordered from Boots is ready to collect then a visit this afternoon from a very dear friend of ours. It will be a poignant visit for him and DH, close friends since childhood.

Condolences on your cousin’s death, Stilllearning. It’s good to hear of a peaceful passing, at home with family.

Grandmabatty, I echo LauraNorder’s advice but it sounds easier said than done. I am feeling quite weak already, thinking of looking after DGD’s the week before Christmas, although the 4year old has her postponed tonsillectomy etc that week so DD will have a couple of days off work.

Grammarretto, I hope your cold clears up quickly.

Rosesandlilac, no sign of flowers on my cerinthe but quite a few seedlings for spring, I hope. I am amazed how many moths and other insects there are in ‘neglected’ parts of the garden and allotment.

Nothing planned for today but I must get on with Christmas cards and ordering presents for the younger DGCs. The teenagers only want money of course, but I will try to find some small ‘tree’ gifts). Same for the adults - as suggested by DD1 last year, the adults are not buying presents for each other. I will also weigh out fruit for the cake. I need to have as much as possible done before we go Scotland for two weeks in early December.

Morning all it is damp and drizzly here this morning. Housework this morning and in the afternoon maybe a bit of reading until GD2 comes in after school. Yesterday we went out for lunch to a garden Centre in Larbert Grandmabatty you will know the one I mean. I always have Macaroni cheese when we go there as husband doesn’t like it so I never make it! It was yummy. Then up to the retail park in Falkirk where a little Christmas shopping was done. Hope all the poorlies feel better soon.

Well I am finally able to try and catch up with all the "goings on" after being without Internet connection for 8 days.
Oh what a relief! My mobile also wouldn't work, as it was apparently getting help from the internet. When we visited a phone shop, I was shown a map of our area, and my supplier had no signal at all, hmmmm... Off out later to try and find something much more reliable.

Yesterday had a bit of panic. We were having coffee at Church, when I happened to look at my mobile, where I could piggyback their Wi-Fi, and found a text message, saying that my blood test appointment was at 12 noon. Originally it was for 2 pm. Yikes, it was 11.45, but I made it.
Hope all goes well for everybody today.

Good morning everyone from a grey and overcast Northampton, 6°C otside, with showers forecast. I have just put the towels in the washing machine, but will tumble dry them today.

A GP appointment yesterday where we discussed the results of my tests, - all normal - and also the upper back pain I've been getting occasionally. More blood tests have been ordered and also a chest x-ray.

glammagran, Calne is so different now to when I was growing up! I thought it was such an ugly dump and couldn't wait to get away. It is now so pretty and beautifully landscaped in the centre. My favourite place locally is Calstone where my DF 's family came from. Also Bowood. And of course the Downs. My DSis is moving from Somerset to a care home in a little village just outside Calne, to be near her daughter; all being well, the move will go ahead next Monday.

Will see what the weather is like before I decide on whether to go to the well-being cafe this afternoon. If not, shall stay in and read.

Good morning Mick and all from a damp northwest coast. Just let my “semi detached” cat in after miaowing on the adjoining wall for a while. The window she usually jumps into now has a stiff lock and hard to open. As she used to use it regularly, she can’t understand it’s out of action…

Nice day yesterday, music club went well but a small turnout, then a food shop. The railway waiting rooms have removed the free takeaway book stands, which is a pity as I enjoyed looking through them, although I need new books like a hole in the head. Usual lunchtime recital today.
Glad to hear from friend I travelled with that a good compensation will be going into my account for the lost luggage and delays from our trip to Austria.

Not a nice experience for your DD RosiesMaw, I love and have performed in Verdi’s operas, but have to say Falstaff is not one of my favourites. Glad you are making headway health wise Mick and hope treatment went well Urms

Good morning from a grey Peterborough. DB organised a surprise outing yesterday to a static carriage tearoom at Fenstanton. Packed carriage, authentic rail noises, music and a lovely tea. The three of us made the most of it. A visit to the Cathedral is planned for this morning.
Pleased to hear of some health improvements and thinking of those awaiting news.

Good morning from Durham. Dry and mild at present, but showers are forecast.
Still sleeping badly but what can one do?
A flying coffee with a friend first, then I’ve to be at DD2’s for 1pm to babysit DGS2 for a few hours.
On my way home, I’ll pop in and see DGS1, then hope for a decent sleep/rest later.
Pleased to hear some health issues here are improving and some worries not as serious as first thought.

Good morning all from a dull N Bucks.
Didn’t manage to meet u with D yesterday after all, she twisted her ankle badly falling as she crossed a road on a run after dropping GD at school. Tripped/caught her foot in a (another b*****) pothole which was covered and hidden by leaves. The sort of pothole you wreck a tyre in or your suspension. Fortunately the “green man” was flashing as she went down right in the middle of the road and a friendly motorist helped her to the kerb where she sat to get her breath back. Another mum she knew also stopped and helped her to get home. SIL was in London so couldn’t have come to drive her home.
As you do, I started thinking of the “what if’s” - if the traffic had been moving for example.
Don’t go there.
We may try for tomorrow morning now but I’m more concerned about how she is managing - you ever stop worrying about your children do you?
Two Zoom courses today - Verdi’s “Falstaff” this morning and “Fried Green Tomatoes” at Movie Mix this afternoon.
Then the hairdresser.

Morning everyone from a sunnyish north Kent. At least we can see the sky in patches with the added bonus of it’s not raining.

Some good news on the medical fronts for Mick and Oops. Hope those suffering from illnesses, undergoing treatment and sleeplessness have a reasonable day.

Today is DGS1’s 13th birthday. Can’t believe those years have gone so quickly. He is growing into a charming, clever and kind young man who is also a talented footballer so we are all super proud of him.

Going off to my exercise class shortly before ordering DGD1 some jewellery she wants for Christmas; suspect the web site will be tricky to negotiate with differing bar sizes and gauges to chose from; I’m informed “they are called ear piercings now Granny, not earrings.” Who knew 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️

A lovely lunch yesterday with Mum, her sister and niece. We have arranged to do it again in December.

Mum has someone from the Memory Clinic this morning. Any time between 9am and 1pm. Hopefully this morning so we can go out later. It will be interesting to see what they say and do.
