I have not slept properly for about 18 months because of a family situation. I know it’s anxiety that prevents me from doing so. I don’t go to bed until the early hours and I wake up just a few hours after I have fell asleep. I don’t fall asleep or nod off I have never been able to just nod off any time of day.
I am a worrier it’s just the way I am and I know that no sleeping tablet will help me.
I have been knitting for a charity and going to mild exercise classes for a health problem. Both help get my mind off my worries and both are a good way to distract me. I know I will be benefit from both activities and they will be good for me.

M0nica

Bad night last night, but exceptionally good the previous night. I do sometimes have a nap. Usually hands on my arms at my desk or on the kitchen table.

I only lie in comfort on ana rm chair or in bed if I am ill, as I do not want to nap tor too long, nor sleep too heavily, otherwise I feel dreadful when I awake.

If I’ve had a bad night (which is fairly often) I will have a zizz on the sofa, feet up, but will set my phone to wake me after say 45 minutes, so I don’t go into a deep sleep. Works fine for me.

I always slept from 10.00 pm until 7.00 am .
Now I dread going to bed .
I find it hard to get to sleep and often have nightmares .
It has become worse and worse .
I'm trying chair yoga to restore my mobility and will start gentle exercises and meditation .
And perhaps , I'll drink less tea , which isn't helping !

Thank you for your concern but having been doing this drug routine for decades am used to it. Like having to take my blood pressure every morning before I have a cuppa and breakfast. I decided when to take my tablets to fit in with my day. Also because of my neurological condition I like routine and have always been a planner it's how I live my life and it's especially helped since I was widowed nearly 20 years ago. Should say it's a rare physical neurological condition not a mental health problem.

No I don’t nap either, but then I’m very tired by 6pm and cant enjoy my evening as I can’t wait to go to bed at 9pm I read until about 9.30 then fast asleep.
But after listening to poor whiff I’m going to stop moaning .

I’ve had insomnia for years. It doesn’t bother me and I don’t nap during the day. Usually I go to bed around 3am and I’m wide awake by 6. Last night I didn’t go upstairs until 5 and had my usual 3 hours.
I seem to function perfectly well during the day and the lack of sleep does me no harm. IMHO of course!
Unlike a friend who tells me her sleeping pattern on a daily basis, I don’t let my insomnia be an issue. The only downside is that I use more energy (gas and electricity) than those who have early nights and I probably eat a bit more. I firmly believe we don’t need as much sleep as we get older anyway.

That a very hard regime a Whiff having to wake at five to take your first tablets. If it were just an hour after it wouldn't be do bad.
I don't sleep well, had most this year on a couple of hours a night, you can't really function properly on so little, when I'm desperate I take sleeping tablets but they only work for a couple of nights then they stop working. I'm lucky I don't have a job to worry about, it must be awful for those doing a full day's work on so little sleep.

Whiff couldn't you ask your doctors to simplify your drug regime? Eight times daily seems rather a lot.

I've been awake since 3am. Have to go to my voluntary job this morning so may have a nap this afternoon.

I have to wake at 5am every morning to take my first lot of tablets. Then more at 6 and 7 . Final morning lot with my breakfast. Lunch time tablets then 4.30,7.30 final one at 9. Then usually go to bed.

Hopefully this might make someone smile. Thought the other week I would stay awake to watch a film 9-11pm. When I woke up thought the sound had gone on my TV then realised it was the Emily Blunt film Quiet place but had to change channel just to make sure I had sound.

Some mornings have a nap after my breakfast. If I am tired.

At night get to sleep straight away and only wake for loo visits but always get back to sleep.

I have been taking lot of tablets since 1988. But only been sleeping at night since I moved to my bungalow 4 years ago. Before I was a night owl and had insomnia. Circumstances meant I had to be alert for decades in case I was needed. My insomnia started in my teens.

Hi no I don't nap through the day never have. I'm pretty sure mine is stress too. I don't know how I manage with lack of sleep.

3.15am for me, too cold to get up though. So I’m deleting old emails on my iPad some are from 2017!

Katyj Sat 25-Nov-23 06:13:42

Yep me, came downstairs at 5am. It’s a new thing for me, but I’ve got lots going on and loads of stress at the moment so putting it down to that. Do you have a nap through the day ?

Nanderin Sat 25-Nov-23 05:30:05
