Do you like to be given flowers for the home as a birthday gift, anniversary etc or as a nice surprise? Would you buy yourself flowers? I ask because I would prefer a pot plant or chocolates

I love flowers and always have a vase full on the hall console table. I love to receive them as a gift and like to give them to others. I don’t like to cut flowers from the garden because they last much longer growing there.

My daughter works p/t in a supermarket and brings me flowers that staff can buy at cut price, once they reach the 'don't display after this date'. Recently I have had roses which last for about 2 weeks. Otherwise I have a few pot plants.

I love flowers and am lucky to be given some now and then.
But I also love pot plants. I recently bought a lovely pink cyclamen for only £4,99 and it's blooming marvellous. And a little African violet for £3.99 which is so pretty. I also collect indoor succulents which I love, and have a lemon tree which I am growing indoors and is now about two feet high.
Plus a few other plants. I'm running out of space for them now.

I do love a vase of flowers. Mostly I take them from my garden in the summer, and I have a few smaller vases for this.
My kids will buy grocery store bouquets for me on occasions, but I find they always have lilies in them which I don't like.

I haven't the heart to tell my kids to avoid lilies. I rarely buy flowers for myself, mostly tulips and daffs in the spring.

I also like houseplants, but am getting to the point of not knowing where to put them. My one son always seems to buy a potted plant.

For the person with the orchids not blooming; I had similar, but I gave them a bit of a shake-up by pulling them from the pot, trimming ends, re-potting and feeding. You don't need a bigger pot. It is rewarding when they finally do re-bloom.

Always, have some plants too but you can't keep getting/buying them as you'd soon run out of room.

Love flowers in the garden but not cut . Our dog nibbles them and they look daft high up. Love a plant , if it’s a gift it makes me think of that person. Also allergic to Lillies .

I love fresh flowers but unfortunately, I have a cat who launches a seek and destroy mission as soon as she sees them. 😥

I buy a bunch most weeks from one of the supermarkets. When we have some in the garden I will cut a few of those instead, and at daffodil time the house will be full of daffodils.

The only flower we don't buy are lilies - hate the smell, hate the pollen and they remind me of funerals.

I like having cut flowers in the home but it depends on their water foot print, I feel too guilty otherwise. However, it is very nice to receive them from friend’s gardens.

Yes, I like flowers in the house, and as they have become so expensive, it is some years since I stopped buying them for our home.

So I like being given flowers. And buy them for those I know will appreciate them, but not for myself.

Yes, always have flowers here in the lounge. Currently some very beautiful lilies which are opening out at their own pace. Lovely.....

I'm amazed by how many of you actually buy flowers for yourselves. Whilst I'm happy to receive them as a gift, I think they are a bit of a waste. The only time I buy them is in February when the first daffs are in the supermarket - just to celebrate the onset of Spring!
I would not buy imported flowers, that is so wrong.
I cut flowers from my garden in Summer when they are plentiful, but otherwise happy to have silk or dried flowers around the house.

I love flowers and always like to have at least one vase of them in the house. We recently moved house and now have a long hall - our previous home had a small lobby only - and it gives me great pleasure to have a vase of flowers in the hall as it looks so cheerful to enter the house and see them. I recently bought a lovely, colourful Poole Pottery vase in a charity shop and it is perfect for the hall. From January onwards, l treat myself to a bunch of daffodils each week. It is the most gloomy time of the year and they are a sign that better things are on their way.

I buy myself flowers weekly without fail.

Ooh - please share with us flower lovers Mollygo!
My favourite vases are wider at the
neck so the flowers droop out to the sides. I used to try arranging with oasis, but B&W suggested making a grid using sellotape strips across the top of the vase.
Then I arrange the flowers as I like and they stay in place. Easy to add extra water, easy to remove and re trim stalks, or remove any dead stuff. It works for me.

I love flowers. My daughter bought me a lovely bouquet last week and they make me smile every time I look at them.

PinkCosmos Mon 27-Nov-23 14:12:33

I like flowers and house plants.

I tend to buy flowers more between Spring and Autumn. I love daffodils in the Spring. My favourite cut flowers are peonies. I grow them in the garden but never cut them. I buy them when I see them in the supermarket. It is true that they last longer on the plant than in a vase.

I buy carnations quite a bit as they last for at least two weeks in a vase and they are reasonably cheap.

I have about four orchid plants that have been bought for me. They flowered for a few years but have not flowered now for about 18 months. I am on the verge of chucking them out. The leaves look very healthy but no signs of flowers. I didn't cut the green flower stems off when the last lot of flowers died. However, the stems did go brown eventually so I did cut them off then.

I have asked for just one posy from my son and his family on my coffin Missiseff, and for others to donate to an animal charity instead of buying flowers. I hate to see heaps of flowers decaying on a grave and think of what those very transient tributes cost. I would prefer the money to do some good.

RakshaMK Mon 27-Nov-23 14:02:50

No I don't. They Don last long and I prefer them still alive in the garden and countryside.
