We are having our neighbours in for a meal next weekend. There will be about 12 or 13 of us. All adults. It is an annual pre Christmas event and we usually have a three course meal , chat a lot and play a silly game for maybe 10-20 minutes. I have exhausted our silly games and wondered if anyone had a fun game they could suggest please. Thanks in anticipation.

Some great ideas!
We have our homemade version of the names in the bag.
2 teams of any equal number.
Pencil and paper for all.
Write a list of the names of 10 or more famous people. They need not be world famous but famous to you
Cut or tear them off, fold and put in a basket/ saucepan or whatever is to hand.

In turn, the team members pick out the scraps of paper, and act out to their own team who this person is without using the words on the paper.
Eg you can say son of god for Jesus
You have one minute (the other team have a timer) to see how many you can answer. Speed is of the essence and you discard finished ones and if you can't recognise a name you can put it back.

All points are added together at the end which is usually when you run out of names.
It's always funny and best with all ages.
The youngsters always know people I've never heard of.

mumofmadboys was asking for a party back in November. Some spammer has revived the thread. Nonetheless it could still be relevant, especially for those with a house full over Christmas. (If they have time to come and read Gransnet!)

Some good suggestions here. One we played yesterday was simple and fun. Sitting round the table with a quantity of small, cheap items in the middle (we had a dog toy, Ibuprofen, wet wipes, set of little screwdrivers, hand gel, soap, individual chocs, candle, bath sponge etc). To start, a person throws the dice and if it’s a 6 they take something of their choice from the pile. Thereafter, whoever throws a 6 can either take an item from the pile, or from someone else’s collection. If you throw a one, you can only take from the centre pile. The dog toy was particularly popular!

I don't like playing games but the GC had Christmas Articulate must admit it was great fun, doesn't take long to play. Just looked online and it's half-price at The Works.

An old post! I wonder what mumofmadboys played?

Well in the end I played a game I already knew! After the meal I got the men to sit in the lounge with a trouser leg rolled up to the knee. One by one the wives were brought in blindfolded and had to feel each leg and try and recognise their husbands leg! Caused a lot of laughter and hilarity! I very much enjoyed everyone's suggestions and hoped it helped others to find a good game for their Christmas festivities. Thanks all

Find the Murderer - send one person out of the room. Quietly between the remaining guests choose a murderer.
Bring the 'detective' back into the room - everyone carries on as normal drinking, chatting, eating etc. The Murderer then begins winking at people who must die convincingly!! Scream. Arghh!! work well here!! or quietly if preferred!! The detective must guess who the Murderer is - hopefully before everyone is murdered and then you can play again with a new detective and murderer!! Silly game but fun!

What a lot of enthusiastic gamers ! Sounds like fun but am I alone in thinking " I hope we don't have to play a game when we visit our friends" Would make me feel very uncomfortable .

If the game is short - only about ten minutes it's not too much for non- gamers to endure and adds to the conviviality!
