I've just been to the Autumn season, 2 opera programme - The Barber of Seville & The Marriage of Figaro. Two great shows (though I thought The Barber was better than The Marriage).
What do you think?
About these operas.
About these 2026 Glyndebourne productions.
Let me know.

I know quite a lot about opera, compared with most people and have seen many. (that is a statement of fact, not a boast).

For some 60 years my DH performed in, directed, musical directed, stage designed and watched opera, proper opera, although he would never pass up a good G&S or operetta, including going to Glynebourne but.....

I find your post puzzling. I have seen both these shows many times, including at Glynebourne.

As you know they are both linked through the use of plays by Beaumarchais. However let us here your opinion of these productions. Are either of them part in the repertoire for Glynebourne's winter tour?

Hi, MOnica,
FYI,
The Glyndebourne Autumn season programme was indeed those two operas. I am asking for others opinions. For me, these productions, the absolute best bit was the overture to the barber.

Having seen various productions of both operas over the years, I personally prefer the Marriage of Figaro for its wistful sad undertones among the comic business. But I suppose the Rossini is more fun.

I have not been to Glyndebourne recently but I hated it on the two occasions I went. I got the impression that a large section of the audience were there for the intervals rather than the opera as they were noisy, restless and ill mannered. I do hope things have changed for the better although I have no plans to be revisiting soon.
