Scapa1 I haven't been to Wallace's Monument for years! Thank you, I'll definitely try the café there.

Spuddy Fri 01-Dec-23 11:47:28

Good morning! It's 11:40am and -0.3 here in little Appleby! I LOVE winters!

Am wearing my huge long wide multi-colored scarf my hubby bought me a few weeks ago and scoffing Maltesers and guzzling Pepsi Max Cherry!

Here at work with the coal fire blazing away in my shop area!

A late good morning from an icy South Lanarkshire, beautiful white trees agains a blue sky but of course bitterly cold and treacherous pavements and roads. Thankfully I don’t need to leave the house today and feel so fortunate to be able to keep warm.

Very sorry to read about your poor brother in law baublesbut I’m very glad to hear of your DH’s improvement, I hope it’s the same for you.

I got up early this morning, determined to tackle some of the myriad tasks needing done, had my breakfast and completed one job before having a coffee and nodding off in the chair!

So time to get on, I’ll be mad at myself if I waste the day. I hope your therapy session was good Urms (and the hot chocolate)

Your Rembrandt image of Marydoll made me laugh Grammaretto!

Wishing everyone warmth and peace

dustyangel Fri 01-Dec-23 11:12:15

Good morning everyone, a chilly 12° this morning but bright and sunny. A big difference from the last few days which have been thick cloud and rain. I think we’re safe from the snow though!

Kalu Fri 01-Dec-23 11:06:53

Good morning all from a cold and thickly covered heavy frost in Glasgow. Snow predicted tomorrow. 🥶

Most definitely a wrap up day of cosy layers. Silky drawers (long johns) and matching T top for starters. I have lit a fire in the sitting room, lamp lit in a corner all set for a coory doon day of doing not much. Bliss.

What a rotten time your family are having baubles. Good to hear of you DH’s progress but such a worrying time for his brother and your families.
Good luck selling your wares Grammaretto
I agree Bella, a winter wonderland is a beautiful sight…..looking through the window of your cosy home. 😀

Keep cosy and safe today all and kind warm wishes to those struggling on whatever the reason may be.

Good morning Mick. Good morning all from very chilly West Cheshire.
Rosiesmaw there is somewhere not registering wintery conditions and that is Anglesey, oh well too late now! Snuggly warm in our new pad anyway.
Yey🎉 to the new oil tank Liberty, you’ll soon be snug as a bug.
Sorry to hear about your brother Baubles, awful news. Glad that Mr Baubles is improving.
Poor you Corners, coughing in stereo, no fun at all.
Not venturing far in this weather is sensible Blossoming, hope you don’t have to go to school in icy conditions Georgesgran take no chances.
I’m with you Ginny with thoughts of warm sunny days to come to see us through these wintery ones.
Your driving instructor story made me giggle Ladyleftfieldlover, I take it the streets are well lit in your area.
BlueSapphire I do hope your name is not Tallulah or anything even longer.
Enjoy that lovely therapy Urms, you’re worth it.
Wishing everyone their best day

Good morning from another bright sunny and cold day in Dunblane. We slept in this morning oops! Glad to hear you enjoyed your Italian meal Grandmabatty. Have you tried the cafe at the bottom of the monument? They do yummy scones and other baking as well as soup, sandwiches and toastiest. It gets busy in the summer though. I will have to read the rest of the posts later. Thoughts are with the poorlies.

Grammaretto Fri 01-Dec-23 09:55:04

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Snow is lying all around.
My df made it home to the North yesterday by bus and train by the skin of her teeth I went ceilidh dancing and 20 of us made it to the church hall.

Today I have a stall at a Christmas fair. I'm sharing it so hope I just need to turn up! I will do my volunteer shift this morning as usual.

How many students witnessed your consultation Marydoll? It sounds like the Rembrandt painting! I hope they learn a lot and that you are on the correct medication.

What a hard time for your family Baubles sending hugs

Thanks to GN I didn't get scammed yesterday.
Hoping everyone has a good day.

Urmstongran Fri 01-Dec-23 09:31:42

Good morning everyone from south Manchester. It’s sunny but cold at -1°C but forecast to rise to the heady height of 3°C by noon. I have a complimentary therapy late morning at the Macmillan centre and plan to get a hot chocolate to sip as I stroll through the park on the way there.

No Matt. He must be on holiday.

Bella23 Fri 01-Dec-23 09:27:46

Good morning from a very cold and foggy Eden. I can just see the pennies covered in snow beautiful if you have nowhere to go.
I've lived in the North East so know what the snow can do in just a short time. Take care all of you who are venturing out or have to. We will as the main clock in the house has stopped and needs new batteries which we have run out of.
It's a Winter Wonderland through the window but I'm not tempted out.

monk08 Fri 01-Dec-23 09:26:53

Good morning all from a frosty Black country.
Enjoyable day yesterday had a wander round Christmas market bumped into an old friend who we hadn't seen for a very long time so good to catch up he said how well he felt after hearing of all DH ailments. We called into a nearby local on way home and had a meal to save me cooking.
Will now go back and read the 41 posts already here tablet been charging so late to the post.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans, virtual hugs where needed and may you all find some ☀️.

Blossoming Fri 01-Dec-23 09:24:27

Good morning Mick and all from sunny Lancashire, currently -3°C and frosty.

The roads and paths remain icy so I don’t think I will be venturing far today. There is plenty to keep me busy indoors. I felt quite ill yesterday after a poor night. Last night I had a good sleep and am feeling much better.

Have the best day you can 🌻

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 01-Dec-23 09:22:48

Good morning, just a quick pop in from a very frosty Oxfordshire, I overslept and we need to go out and get back before our shopping delivery.
I’ll read all the posts when I get back.
Take care, it looks slippy out there.

EkwaNimitee Fri 01-Dec-23 09:13:49

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very frosty Carlisle, -4°C here at dawn. Although having to defrost the car is tedious, I do like these sunny days with blue skies and the pretty, frosted foliage. Surprisingly, the spiders have been busy overnight and white threads are decorating my front garden tree.
Yesterday, I went to Sainsbury's for various oddments and to refuel the car. Canyons of tinned chocs and cases of beer etc were rife and lots of other Christmas goodies being busily stocked by the staff. Even an old 'bah, humbug' as I am likes seeing it. It is now December after all and I have started on my first mince pies of the season.
I also needed a new radio as Classic FM are turning off the DAB signal in January and moving to DAB+. As I had also been thinking of getting a new CD player, I got myself a mini hifi system at the local dealer on the way home. Now I have to set it up, a job DH used to do. Not looking forward to it.....
Apart from dealing with that, there'll be a bit of housework this morning plus a bit of the unending admin.

I hope your BiL is on the mend soon , Baubles.

And the best possible day to all.

keepcalmandcavachon Fri 01-Dec-23 09:13:32

White Rabbits! Goodness Grandmachristy almost Narnia.
Hope you are better today Marydoll and all who are feeling poorly. Daughter & SIL are taking me to the SS Brunel Victorian Christmas on Sunday morning, if we get snowed in (HOPES) we will have a great time aboard with Father Christmas, roasted chestnuts and figgy pudding grin.
Take care out in the frost every one!

luluaugust Fri 01-Dec-23 09:13:19

So sorry to read about your BIL baubles
Marydoll I hope you do manage your outing today

Taichinan Fri 01-Dec-23 09:11:26

Good morning Mick and all. The sun is up now with a rosy glow but the birds were at the bird table before that! There's a very thick white frost here on the Angus coast, but no snow and none on the hills either. (Not quite true. Now that the sun's up I can see a goodly covering on the furthest and highest tops) I hope there's an early Spring ahead to compensate for the early winter!
I should have posted earlier, before DS1, Little Ollie's Papa, fired off more photos to me! Now my head is full of memories of said Papa as a baby - the resemblance is remarkable. There are very few photos of him as we were living in Singapore and had no adoring relatives nearby taking photos every five minutes, but my memory is surprisingly vivid. I'm sure sometime in the (maybe not-so-distant) future some AI will be able to capture memories and convert them to photos! Wouldn't that be wonderful!
Was so sorry to read in your post about your brother-in-law baubles. flowers But good to know things are moving in the right direction for you DH.
The pre- Christmas celebrations in your town sound really lovely Susan and your grandchildren are going to love them.
Glad you and your DH are enjoying your time in Cambridge Brook.
Have a lovely break in Wales RoseandLilac.
Grandmattie how exciting to plan a Grand Opening of the Loo!
I'm not sure what I shall accomplish today - though I know what I ought to 😉!! My hibernation mode is now well-advanced!
Hoping the Corners begin to pick up soon and indeed all those feeling poorly find a better day today. Stay safe on those icy pavements and roads everybody x

Grandmachrisy47 Fri 01-Dec-23 08:57:17

Morning from a snowy Co Durham. Our local Comprehensive school is closed today but the infant and junior school is open. DD2 managed to drop dgd here on her way to work and a passing mother offered to take dgd to school with her daughter. I was delighted as we have a fair covering of snow and a hill to climb.
Hope everyone stays warm and the poorlies get some relief.

Gingster Fri 01-Dec-23 08:51:04

Good morning all and it seems colder than ever.
The sky is bright though, so hopefully the frost will clear.

Today we’ll meet up with our Friday friends and Dh will take his birthday cake (bought in M and S). The old country pub’s landlady only opens up for us and doesn’t do food anymore. (She’s just turned90 and will join us ) , so we’ll have a drink or two and ‘eat cake’, around the log fire. Simple pleasures with good friends ❤️.

Good news for you and your dh, Liberty. ‘All shall be well’ indeed.

Take care, keep warm and hopefully feel a little better.🙏

GrannySomerset Fri 01-Dec-23 08:34:00

Like the rest of the country we have a very heavy frost and getting up will be a triumph of mind over matter. Busy day with oldies’ coffee morning and an afternoon in church setting up a contribution to the Christmas tree display in church - ours is the angel visiting the shepherds for which I have been knitting sheep. I have to say they looked like guinea pigs until a clever friend provided them with legs. Sixteen local organisations are doing trees so it should be an interesting day tomorrow with the village fair taking place and the trees being the church’s contribution.

Sorry so many people are under the weather; I hope this early cold spell is not the start of a long winter.

RosiesMaw Fri 01-Dec-23 08:20:53

I had not read through the thread when I blithely referred to “poorlies” and apologise especially to Baubles , that is worrying news and I wish him and all of you, well 💐

Jaxjacky Fri 01-Dec-23 08:19:59

Good news Liberty you must be relieved.

Liberty Fri 01-Dec-23 08:16:31

Good morning from Suffolk where DH says the whiteness on the drive is a light covering of snow rather than frost.

Success! At 9am we are expecting the delivery of a new oil tank and men to fit it. I think DH told the company that we were elderly and felt the cold badly and they were most caring and found an immediate date for us. Oil delivery also promised for Monday morning so “ all shall be well and all shall be well”. Excellent service is still available.

Hope others seeking any help with domestic issues have the success we have had.

ginny Fri 01-Dec-23 08:15:20

Good morning from N.Bucks where it is also cold and frosty. I’m keeping thoughts of warm sunny days in my head. I hate winter weather.
First today I have to go down to the church to put up the tree for he craft clubs entry for the tree festival which is combined with Dickens Day in our town.
DD1 is popping in for coffee and a chat and then I’m out for lunch with three friends.
Some on line Christmas shopping later and some sewing( still haven’t finished that soldier.
Thoughts with everyone who is poorly or troubled. Wishing all a good day.

Georgesgran Fri 01-Dec-23 08:15:12

Good morning from Durham, where there’s been heavy snow overnight and more forecast. I hate the stuff. Our small development, a cul-de-sac, is accessed by quite a steep hill which gets very little sun, so the road doesn’t thaw.
I’m supposed to be getting DGS2 from school and for a sleepover tonight. I’m very apprehensive, but don’t want his parents to cancel their plans, so it’s a ‘wait and see’ for now.
Best wishes to all.
