Thank you both - it does have a slot! I'm such a hopeless case! I shall check these out on Amazon right now.

The usb port will do the same but a usb memory stick is more awkward as it sticks out. I then moved my documents, pictures, music, downloads folders onto the memory card. This can be more of a problem if onedrive has taken control of them.

Thank you Chestnut I will leave it a little longer then. My laptop is a 2019 version and only has 4gb memory.

External hard drives are about the same size as a smartphone. My latest one is Western Digital and you can get 1TB up to 5TB. The price goes up according to size.

I guess it depends how old your laptop is. Can it handle new updates and apps as they come along? You don't want to buy a hard drive and then your laptop fail due to old age.

There is a poster here called NorthFace who is a technology genius. I hope he/she comes along.

Actually it has a USB port of that would do the same thing?

Does it have a slot for an SD card. If it does you can just slot in a 256Gb sd card and not have to carry an external drive around with you.

I don’t know much, but I think an external hard drive, would be cheaper and more practical- you can get light ones.

I only have an Asus notebook with 64gb storage and 4gb memory. There is not enough space to download Windows updates - asking for minimum 10gb of free space
I have no idea what I could move to an external hard drive but wonder if a 2TB one would be a good idea. The laptop is only 11" and is extremely light for me to use despite having problems using my hands and wrists. The hard drive would cost about £80 so much more affordable than another laptop for me.

Any advice gratefully considered, thank you.
