I have totally run out of ideas now. He wants stuff to do with gaming, but his mum is not keen on that - what the heck can I get him?

Our 8 year old is madly into football and the one thing he’s desperate for is a free kick wall (3 weighted down mannequins that stand in front of a goal with the purpose of honing your scoring skills). I’m hoping this might give me a bit of a reprieve from “you’re in goals, Nanna”, and we’re happy to encourage the football, but they are surprisingly expensive and might have to be either a joint present with his brother or a joint Christmas/birthday present for him. To be negotiated. smile

At that age my lot used to like model cars, preferably the ones that will move, either remotely or with a good push depending how much you want to spend !

I had an unexpected success with my grandson not once but twice with a gem/crystal hunting kit and then a fossil hunting kit for his 7th and 8th birthdays respectively. He sat for ages patiently chipping away at the block of plaster concealing the treasure then experimented with water to speed up the process. He had lots of fun deciding which of his friends to give a gem or fossil to as well.... www.oneclearwinner.co.uk/product/crystal-digging-kit/?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7aql7LH-ggMVjMvtCh0aYQSjEAMYASAAEgKCQ_D_BwE He is usually sat with his screen and earphones on.... Lots of ideas for me to follow up on this thread too though....!

Thanks Aveline, that site sounds good

I bought my 7 year old grandson a years subscription to a comic. It’s through a company called Pheonix, has science and art I’m told. It arrives monthly, addressed to the child’s name

Our 10 year old and 8 year old grandsons have had The Phoenix delivered for 2 years now, Iam and they still love it. Their parents are completely baffled by it and can’t see the attraction, but it obviously appeals to the target audience!
