I have my Grandma's old recipe for 'Sand Cake', which might be a similar thing - I seem to remember its crust possibly being crunchy.
6 oz marg
6 oz sugar
3 eggs
Half teasp vanilla essence
4 oz cornflour
4 oz plain flour 1 teasp baking powder
2 to 3 tablespoons milk (thing these were larger than a modern tablespoon)
Creaming method.
Gas reg. 3.5 for between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 mins.
