Artistic, or dull and boring?

What does the Christmas photo say to you? Does its style send any particular message?
Just interested to hear.

It will stand out from all the other Christmas cards, and is different from previous years, if the people who receive them regularly keep them. (I know I would.)

No need for that dig karmalady
I think it’s very staged and quite boring and lifeless The sheet on the floor looks as if Louis would enjoy a slide on it when they ve finished
I don’t think times are hard for them Ums if that’s what it’s meant to convey I think that’s a low blow to the real ‘poor’
Very corporate

I’m not overly keen on it. A very good-looking family, yes, but Kate looks slightly different than how she normally appears - photoshopped?! As for the background - it looks like a major weather front is about to engulf them - very drab, and too much of it, which is a bit odd to my eyes and slightly sinister. Charlotte does look extremely grown up. What also strikes me is that it’s a formal photo with quite informal clothing. I don’t think that it works very well, on the whole. And it’s certainly not Christmassy.

Lovely looking family. Perhaps anxious to consider diversity, not everyone celebrates Christmas. A bit of holly might have been nice, just a winter tree after all.
Perhaps also trying not to look too colourful and jolly when others are struggling to pay bills.
They’d be criticised in some quarters whatever they did.
Pity there is so much background. No idea what that’s about.
What’s your opinion Josianne?

Callistemon21 Sun 10-Dec-23 10:37:05

I like it but not the background, it's all rucked up. I'll ask the professional photographers in my family what they think.

Where's the dog? Not complete without the family dog preferably wearing some antlers!

This!! 😁

I like it, I think it will stand the test of time, and it’s nice not to have yet another happy snappy picture. I think there’s only so many ways to portray a family of five in an interesting and different way.

Delila Sun 10-Dec-23 10:19:50

It looks as though storm clouds are gathering.

Grannynannywanny Sun 10-Dec-23 10:15:53

Thanks LindaPat. Yes at first I hadn’t realised Louis was wearing shorts trousers. It doesn’t take much to scramble my brain these days 😆

SueDonim Sun 10-Dec-23 10:11:33

It’s very dull. They’re also very small in it. Or maybe just far away? 🤔

LindaPat Sun 10-Dec-23 10:09:50

Sorry, threw not through!!!

LindaPat Sun 10-Dec-23 10:08:55

Yes Grannynannywanny, I think Louis is wearing his trademark shorts, so the bottom half of his legs look pale. It through me for a minute, trying to work it out, as from the waist he looks to be wearing long dark trousers.
Doesn't Princess Charlotte look grown up?

henetha Sun 10-Dec-23 09:59:19

My first thought was, what lovely children William and Kate have. I like the photo, but agree that it's not Christmassy.

Curtaintwitcher Sun 10-Dec-23 09:54:46

I wonder whose idea this was? A picture of them all wearing Christmas jumpers and standing beside a Christmas tree would have been so much nicer.

Parsley3 Sun 10-Dec-23 09:47:36

Is this the Christmas card photo?

Thanks aggie. I think it’s the legs that are confusing me. Is Louis wearing short trousers?

I think they're trying to convey the message that they are a simple family, but they still look glossy even though the intention is probably a good one..

Shoe style , not string !

aggie Sun 10-Dec-23 09:23:42

Louis and Charlotte are wearing the same shoestring , if that’s any help Grannynannywanny

Nice composition but a decidedly dull photo.

That’s what I thought.
Good composition, good looking family, but that’s it. Awful background and nothing remotely Christmassy about it.
Some photos look good in black and white but this isn’t one of them.

growstuff Sun 10-Dec-23 09:17:17

Or wearing matching Christmas onesies. grin

Urmstongran Sun 10-Dec-23 09:14:08

I think they’ve read the room. Times are hard this year financially for many. So it’s a stripped back, fairly austere look but with happy smiles and portrays well the sense of unity within a family. Job done.

What are your thoughts on it Joseann?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-Dec-23 09:12:13

I like it, simple but clear, they are a very handsome family.

Grannynannywanny Sun 10-Dec-23 09:11:47

Even when I zoom in I can’t figure out the section with Louis and William’s feet and legs behind the leg of the chair.
