We do Christmas Eve boxes!! We never ever get to see our only grandchild over the “real” Christmas period, so I take great pleasure in putting together a VERY naff Christmas Eve box, which his dear mum (my step daughter) videos him opening on Christmas Eve and sends it to us. This years contents (he’s 9), Grinch PJs, Roblox T-shirt, various Christmas sweets, small game, hot chocolate and a book. He gets excited and we doing them.

In the 80s a book came out called ‘The Complete Naff Guide’ which I bought. I’ve just had another look at it. At the time I thought it was hilarious but now it just seems a bit sad as lots of the things being made fun of are gone now such as Dallas and Tweed perfume. Fashions in ‘naffness’ come and go. Trout pouts hadn’t been invented back then - they are now my pet hate.

I think the word “ naff” is naff! Along with anything body wise which is fake, I especially dislike those weird eyebrows, making on look permanently surprised, and lip fillers, those African type earrings, tattoos on knuckles, necks and faces (don’t actually mind some body art, some of it is actually rather beautiful) and facelifts!

🤣🤣🤣🤣Agree with so many of you on these things!

People who have colour coordinated books on their bookshelf, never intending to read any.

You have haven’t offended me Sago however I have been known to say settee. 😏

Witzend 👍

Are you Scottish? I think ‘settee’ is said as a rule in Scotland where I am. But I’ve learned English people prefer ‘sofa’ and despise ‘settee’ for some reason.

Croydon facelifts on anything other than attractive young people

Croydon facelift is a particular hairstyle worn by some women. The hair is pulled back tightly and tied in a bun or ponytail at the back ...

When my granddaughter was born, my Sons wife 'had a go' at him for not getting her a 'Push Present'

He asked me what it was and I had no idea. Apparently some new mothers believe they have to have this gift for pushing out the baby. Push Present. Who'd have thunk.

Fake nails for me too, swollen lips make me cringe, near naked celebrities, all-over tattoos, entitled celebs, the list is endless which makes me a really grumpy, miserable old granny, but I keep quiet about it all and sit in a corner and mentally criticise. When I point things out to my DH he says "..oh didn't notice". Wish I could be like him.

Christmas jumpers

Those big letters spelling out L O V E or H O M E hung on people's walls.

I was once at my nephews house - they'd just had a baby. First time I had visited and he showed me the baby's room. Coming down the stairs I saw a picture on the wall 'Live, Laugh, Love' crossed out and the words 'Dont be a C**t' written underneath. I chuckled.

Initially I said out loud to this thread - who cares, each to their own. But Ive read them all and laughed a bit as I sit here wearing my christmas jumper.

Adding to the list I going for Christmas Eve boxes, what are they all about???

travelsafar my husband spotted these in our local garden centre yesterday.
I had to explain the whole concept of them to him, he was completely baffled 😳

False eyelashes 👀. I have to admit I used to wear them when I was about 18. The phase didn’t last long.

I also had a half wig on an Alice band. When I got sick of it I advertised it for sale. A woman contacted me to buy it. I met up with her at a bus stop for the transaction ! She said she wanted it as a present for her daughter-in-law 😳

Long ago I had a mini in a colour designated " citrus' ie yellowy green. It was known to us as the snotmobile. I'm sure Mr Haslam would approve.

Merlotgran is that a Cavalier King Charles spaniel? We’ve had two tri-coloured but I yearned for a black & tan or a ruby one. ❤️

I had a yellow car, once, a VW Polo. So a serious German auto but in a jolly colour. I loved it. It had the advantage of being visible in the deep snow unlike the last three boring white cars I’ve had.

Yes, she’s an absolute sweetie and has wonderful expressions when not amused. 😂

DSiL also has a ruby one. They’re half sisters.

I also had a yellow car and really loved the colour. It was a Datsun Cherry and I thought the colour was very safe when transporting my three very young children.
