We went to Florida several times and never saw a spider.

We went to Australia ( which is was dreading) but never saw any spiders.

However, you just go into our shed at the bottom of the garden! Masses of enormous spiders, it’s staying locked up until MrOops sorts them out next year.

We went to Australia and when SinL was cutting off the bottom of the Christmas tree he found a red back. DD was off to her office party at the Aquarium so she popped it into a box and took it with her to put into an exhibit. They had reptiles etc. at the aquarium in Manly.
Here is the web of the golden orb spider in the botanical gardens. So those pesky arachnids are around!

I have just been speaking with my cousin in the South of USA and they are not mixing much as a population as Covid is really bad there again and people are being encouraged not to get together in large groups to celebrate due to the risk.

We all have our fears of different things. I am fine with spiders and moths or butterflies. used to be the chief sorter out of these for my mother. No problems with bats either . However I absolutely hate rats. There would be some on a farm where I was involved with their horses and if I saw one it made me shudder. When I lived in Damascus my kitchen cupboards were metal and when I asked someone about them was not happy to hear they were to keep mice and rats away!! If I got up in the night I always rattled the kitchen door before I opened it!!

The invasion of Joro spiders originated in Georgia, at least that's the general thought. They arrived in port on Asian ships. They are not dangerous and are quite pretty, their legs are long with yellow spots on them. Apparently they are quite shy creatures.
P.S. I'm an arachnophobic, so I elly hope they don't end up here too.

AGAA4 my father owned a fruit and veg shop and found iquite a few very interesting’ spiders in the banana boxes. He used to trap them in glass jars and take them to the university. The School of Tropical Medicine were always glad to have them. They were not huge but some were very poisonous.

🤣 Do you remember when tarantulas used to come into the country on bananas. Some people brought the bananas home from the supermarket and the baby tarantulas would hatch and run round their houses. The bananas have been jet washed since but I still check for spiders.

They’re probably bred to hold a camera and a microphone so that the Chinese can keep an eye on the Americans. 😂

My OH is, well he won't mind me saying, petrified of spiders (due to an extremely unpleasant experience as a young man).

I've got to prevent him from seeing any images - I've watched him react to them, all the blood drains from his face and he looks as if he's going to faint.

Oh dear.

Probably in some packet of cheap goods imported from China - some bugs are tiny or maybe eggs were hidden amongst some clothes. Those warehouses are crawling with vermin!

Maybe they had their passports with them.

However did they get there?
And how do they know they’re from China?
