Do you buy Christmas presents for your pets?

My little dog gets a new ball at Christmas (as well as other times) and she loves being included and tearing the parcels open.

Our very first cat (over 25 years ago now), we bought her a catnip toy, and wrapped it up, so she could join in the unwrapping fun with us and in-laws.

She ripped off the paper, then spent the day ripping the toy to shreds, she had it in bits by about 6pm, very pleased with herself!

A later cat, (#5 I think) he was a massive ginger, loved his scratching post, but had largely worn it out quite quickly. We had a short break somewhere that year, November maybe, and spotted a pet shop having a closing down sale, got him a huge scratching post (a Rolls Royce of its type?!).

We gave it to him, and he lay for much of the day with his front paws wrapped round it, obviously delighted with it!!

A year or two later though, we brought back a big clockwork mouse, for ginger and his then companion cat. We wound it up, and set it going in front of them. They both ran a mile, so we had to give that one away!

I don't buy presents or coats for my 2 spaniels. Yesterday they had a full Xmas dinner after ours (we have it before Xmas Day always) with beef,turkey, pork, and veg. Spend time at home lounging on the sofa or being nursed on our laps. Today they are at the beach having a good run and swim. Just have to watch they don't steal any chocolate or mince pies lol

Yes, my dog gets presents. This year she got a stuffed turkey toy, a paw cleaner and some goodies to eat. Christmas to me is about giving to children and she's as close as I can get to a child on Christmas Day.

Yep we do, always have. This year we've bought Luna a new collar, a ball, numerous cuddlies and a few bags of treats. I might have gone a bit overboard

I certainly did, when we had them.
Now it’s just DD’s and Dbro and SiL’s cats.

In the past we more than once had friends with 3 dogs to stay for Christmas (we also had one). Their dogs (2 Flatcoats and a Westie) were intensely interested in everybody else’s presents (as well as their own!) and would watch avidly as each one was opened!

On about the 28th one year, as I was stripping the turkey in the kitchen, I turned round to see all 4 of them sitting in a row, looking the picture of good manners and hope! If only I’d had a camera handy….
(Of course they did all get some with their dinners.)

When I had two dogs both no longer with us my sons were young so they said about getting them a present from Santa and that’s how it started I used to get them every Christmas after that after all they are part of your family and you buy family don’t you lol xx

Yes I always did our late beloved westie a Christmas bag of treats and presents, I now do a present for my daughters dogs

We did, when we had pets. The cats loved hiding under wrapping paper or in gift bags and pouncing on each other. The contents were irrelevant. It kept them out of the kitchen and off the Christmas tree for a couple of hours.

Yes, we buy our dog a toy and some treats. To be fair she’d be quite happy to spend time shredding wrapping paper.

The first dog we gave a parcel to rip open on Christmas Day was our legendary rescue. They’re all special but …. He was thrown out of a moving car, outside our dog shelter. Staff ran out to save him from being run over or lost on the moors. They called him Noel. He came to us 6 weeks later, a bundle of skin, bone,anxiety and awful gastric problems. We changed his name -I couldn’t face using Noel the reminder of how he arrived in the shelter
Their vet offered 6 months free treatment because he feared the gastric problems would persist. Long story short, he was with us 16 years, probably reached 17 years of age. within a month could travel in a car without vomiting, within 6 months we were gradually moving him to a normal diet. He stopped stealing and guarding food.
So, his first Christmas with us, he had a tug toy, wrapped so he could sniff and open it. We continued this tradition, he loved being part of the giddy present opening. He wasn’t scared or over excited. He was your classic rescue, you could almost see him working out - hey I get fed, no one hurts if frightens me, I go on happy sniff walks with these humans, I think I understand love….
So my current non rescue pedigrees will get a Christmas gift. This Christmas morning it’s just me my lab and my spaniel who wake up together Christmas morning, we can each open a gift together.
Then a walk for them before I go to join family at our daughters. Then early evening, me and those dogs will snuggle down near the fire. 💖💙🐕🐶. It’s not anthropomorphism, they’re definitely dogs, walks play to their breed characteristics but they’re family and I thank the gods they’re here x

Absolutely, it wouldn't be Christmas if our dogs didn't get their pressies. Mr. S. is fine about it but does think I'm slightly mad when I insist on not having them in the room when I wrap them, in case they see them and it spoils the surprise .

I haven't got any pets now , but have bought toys for the GrandCats (3) and GrandDog . Wrapped, with their names on, obviously......

Always did when we had dogs. Both enjoyed opening the paper - and then ignoring the contents .

Yes we do... I had a list of 6 dogs 5 cats in our extended family. Silly, I know. But I do love watching our dog delicately rip the paper on her bag of treats.

No to dog clothes, they don't need over their heavy fur. A small slim dog from years past needed a coat to stay war,.

Members of our family and they are treated quite well.

We've displaced driving the car on our dog. He deserves a Christmas tip for his skill.

I've just travelled back from France and have never seen sooo many dogs with toys, blankets etc in the kennels on the ferry. Plus £250 a pop to travel! A good Christmas for them!

I'm glad mine are not the only dogs who don't play with toys Fleurpepper I was beginning to think they had 'issues'

I’m really surprised you don’t buy a gift for your dog FleurPepper, especially being a rescue like mine. I have always bought gifts for my pets. They have always been treated as the much loved family members that they are/were.

She will have a nice walk and really nice left overs, and a lot of cuddles. But 'presents' no- personally I don't thin we should displace human feelings to dogs, or other animals. That's me, that's ok. The best present was finding a forever home, lots of love and big walks. Being a street dog, she doesn't play with toys.

My dog gets a bag of treats and an addition to her beloved collection of unchewable balls. She picks out her favourite colour du jour - so a different coloured one which I went to great lengths to source!
