Good Morning Saturday 23rd December 2023

Good morning from a quiet but forecast sunny South Downs.

Today my daughter and I are meeting up on our annual get together ( we meet up at other times of course, but make this special). This year we’ve decided to have afternoon tea at a very smart hotel in the middle of Sussex, after a walk if it is dry - which it is (taking our wellies) at Knepp, which is just up the road from my daughters village.

DH and I were asked to a pre-Christmas bash this evening, but we have declined as it will be very crowded and there is a lot of covid around, we have made our excuses and I have sent over big plate of sausage rolls I made yesterday.

This morning I will finish off the Christmas ham, which is sitting in its stock at the moment ready to be roasted and glazed.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a dark and dry day here on the east coast of Fife.

I hope my plans to be picked up tomorrow can still go ahead I’ve a dreadful cold which is going around but I’ve got the cold remedies to hand hoping they’ll sort me out.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and damp. BlueSapphire such sad news for you. GrandMattie I hope today is a better one for you.
Yesterday I visited my friend's partner with gifts and cards. He was very upset because he had received cards for my friend and had to tell the senders she had died, which brought it all back to him. Thank goodness he's going to his sister's for Christmas. In the afternoon I visited mum. She was sleeping mostly but managed a little conversation. I took her some Christmas cake. My lovely neighbour handed in gifts for the boys. They were unexpected but very welcome. At night dd, sil and I visited my aunt and uncle. We had a lovely meal and Christmas quiz then a little karaoke.
A combination of rich food and wine meant I didn't sleep well but I'm heading to Tesco soon. Then later this morning I'll visit a friend to exchange gifts. Later I'll do the usual housework and have a nap. Have a good day all

mizuma I have my grandfathers book of hymns. He was in a Methodist men’s choir and travelled all over Cornwall and beyond. That version is in there. I can’t say it is a favourite of mine though, to me it “jars”.

It’s my last day here in Cambridge, I’ve enjoyed it so much but I’m travelling back home later today, can’t say I’m looking forward to the busy journey much. All being well DH will pick me up from Inverness airport this evening

Good morning from Colchester which is set for a mild day with some sunshine.
DS's GF will be here later so Christmas can begin with games, chat and laughter. I haven't set a menu but there's plenty of choice in the fridge/freezer and DH will choose and cook. I am the pot washer.

Good morning all from a rainy Glasgow, where it is 12°C.
A very busy thread this morning and lots of sad news.

I have had a dreadful night, woke up at 3am with a dreadful itch on my face (antibiotics?) and the cough is back! Grrr. I thought I was a last getting rid of it, after six months.

I plan to go slowly today and pace myself. DS1 is picking up the turkeys from the butcher's first thing. We usually go together, but I am not up to it. I plan to start the prep today.
He has stopped coming for Christmas dinner, because if we ask his inlaws, they ruin it and if my son comes here, they time how long DIL spends with us. 😔 I have accepted that it can't happen.

Mizuna, I hope your son is ok, it doesn't sound good and Corner, fingers crossed for the car diagnostics.
My mum used to get very low at Christmas, GM, be kind to yourself and try and rest.
Lastly, a dreadful shock for you and your family BlueSapphire .💐

Wishing all those spending time with their families a joyful day and for those with pain and sadness, a peaceful one.

Good morning from a dull and grey Black Country, where at least it is still dry.

Unexpected outing yesterday with my friend, as she asked me to accompany her to a local garden centre, where we had coffee and another good old natter.

Today housework, and making a cake to take to DB's and SI's for Christmas tea. Salted Caramel. MrJ is off on a bike ride with his club.

The journey back from Suffolk was very windy with a few holdups but not too bad.

My book club Christmas meal was jolly with delicious food and good company.

Today I will shop for DD and see how she is. She’s poorly again !

Dgd1 is back ‘home’ for a couple of weeks so I’m looking forward to seeing her.
Dgd2 (17) was presented with her Christmas present , a ‘new ‘ car. I big pink bow wrapped around it. Lovely for her but something else for me to worry over ! 🤯.

Sar I’ve been down the slopes in one of those baskets. Terrifying but good fun. I screamed all the way down 🫣.

Good morning from Suffolk on what sounds to be a busy day for many.

So sorryBlueSapphire to read your sad news which was so unexpected and will take time and emotional energy to process.

We plan a trip to the grave of DH’s parents and then to the beach for a dog walk. This is a different one from the visit with the Bristol tribe on Thursday and imagine it will be popular with children and dogs plus their parents. There are a couple of lovely coffee stalls so,a,though closed in winter,I’m hoping they are opening for the holiday.

Thinking of all those with health or other worries and hoping today is kind to them.

DD2 will pick me up after lunch and we will meet the rest of the family to see the pantomime. I enjoy watching the little ones watching the panto’ just as much as the panto’ itself .

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s dry and much less windy.
The ‘lodgers’ are just getting up. I can hear footsteps. They have a mid morning train to Edinburgh. I shall call on my neighbour who came home from hospital yesterday.
GM sending you a hug. I was knitting yesterday afternoon and listening to some music when it occurred to me this is my 7th Christmas without DH. Cue tears. Sadness in the celebrations. 💐 for all of us with our brave faces.
Today it’s a quick whizz round before heading off to DD’s. I’m hoping the roads are quiet. 🤷‍♀️

Ham to finish off and sausage rolls for DGS to make but nothing else planned. Like gMattie I am poleaxed by sadness but will just have to go with the flow and emerge the other side. At least today I don’t have to pretend as I am not seeing anyone. Sorry to read such sad news - it feels even worse at Christmas, somehow - and hope Marydoll feels less awful as the day goes on.

Good morning from Durham. The gale force winds continue.
DD2 and I had a nice, but short visit to York yesterday. I have both DDs and their little ones coming later - it will be Bedlam!
Nibbles, fizz and gifts to be exchanged in advance of the day.
When I did the cable car Sar, a sudden storm made the basket descent unsafe - think I was a bit relieved!
