Good Morning Tuesday Boxing Day 26th December 2023

Good morning all.
A lovely day yesterday with family and FaceTime with the younger ones. Our eldest daughter has quite a library of games which we played in the evening causing much hilarity.
DGS 1 stayed overnight and they will all be back today for a country walk followed by cold cuts and salads.
More games to follow that.
Glad to hear most of you had a happy day and wish you the same today. Thoughts with those not so fortunate.

Morning all, I am still in bed.

Lovely day with delight food at middle son’s yesterday. The four cousins boys aged 3 -15 all got on well, no major skirmish’s.

Today DD’s boys are going to the other Gran’s to stay for a few nights, eldest son and wife are coming to stay here (GD has stayed in Copenhagen due to work) so I need to start organising myself soon. Youngest son, wife and two child are coming over for nibbles and gift exchange later.

Good morning everyone from a dry South Downs after yesterdays mist, mildness and heavy drizzle.

Yesterday was filled with excellent food served by our son in a blow up Santa suit. Lots of laughter and fun.

Today they are all here, except youngest grandson, who has better more teenagerish things to do - so I must finish off the trifle, make a Christmas pie and apple tart (for a dairy free member). It will be a more quiet day today with lots of conversation etc.

Must phone my sister who has covid , so has been forced to have Christmas in isolation with her DH. She seemed quite cheerful yesterday when we spoke. This has not been her finest year!! But at least her head is on the mend now.

Good morning from a wet looking Suffolk with rain overnight. We enjoyed a quiet day yesterday with contact throughout the day with AC and GCwith amusing videos of highlights of their meals. 16 year old Bristol DGD was allowed to flame the pud!

I too love Boxing Day lunch and probably prefer it to Christmas Day’s especially in terms of preparation…..cold meats,baked potatoes,salad etc so easy to get ready. DH still in bed so I’m about to have another cuppa and then make trifle,the Ipswich tribe’s favourite pud for lunch.

DH has always been in charge of Christmas Day dinner and I’ve been the sprout prepper etc. He decided we needed a turkey crown as well as a turkey which was against my better judgement which,on this occasion as many,I kept to myself.

We hardly made a dent in the turkey yesterday so the crown is now in the freezer where I think it will stay until Easter!

Hope today is a good and peaceful day for all.

After a very busy day yesterday, a late morning wake up was very welcome. I am another one who over caters, DH remarked that the table would need bracing as dish after dish was brought out! The Christmas meringue wreath was a success though. It will be a day of eating delicious leftovers today, but a long dog walk with Dh and DS1 first.
Some very sad posts this morning, amongst the joyful ones, my thoughts are with those who are experiencing sadness of any sort.
Ashcombe I hope you quickly recover from the after effects of the Christmas veg!
It's lovely to be back with you and I will endeavour to post more often.

Morning from a cooler S Hampshire, but dry, it drizzled most of yesterday.
We had a marvellous day with my daughter and the grandchildren, the first time my daughter has cooked a Christmas turkey, she’s a natural, but asked if they can go back to coming here next year!
Today, nothing at all, but I’ll get out for a walk, I have snow envy brook.

Good morning from a mild Black Country with bright blue skies.

Busy day yesterday, driving over to Mums to collect her for Turkey lunch with us. She was in a tiz as she thought I wasn't collecting her until 3pm to take her to DB's MrJ went to town with a lovely 3 course lunch. He made Mackerel pate, Turkey meal, then Christmas Pud with Brandy butter. Later on in the afternoon, Mum couldn't remember what she had! She is now staying at Brothers house until Friday, where we all meet up at DS house for his birthday.

Great afternoon at Brothers, where they had put on a large spread for tea. So today will be a light eating day I think. We always play 'the present game' where everyone buys and wraps something £5 and under. 10 mins time is set and each time a 6 is rolled you can chose a present. At the end another timer is set for 5 mins, where you can 'steal' from someone's stash!

Today a walk is planned as the weather looks fine.

Good morning from my holiday in Melbourne. Thought weather would be better than Manchester UK but it's been a stormy week! Still good to spend time with DD and 3 gc's. Forecast for 25° + later this week so hope to get to the beach.
Today spent finding places for all Christmas gifts. The refuse collectors
came on Christmas day which was good to get over full bins emptied!
Rest of day dog walking and making a turkey curry. Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning from a dry and calmer NE.
Family arrived at lunchtime yesterday, DD and SIL prepared the food for heating and I set the table with salads and savoury snacks. DIL also brought food to add to the table.
GDs opened their gifts and we went to the music room to have the carols round the piano, a ritual we have followed since DD was six but it was GD who played them this year. We finished the recital with Bohemian rhapsody which I am sure the whole street will have heard.
We returned to the lounge to watch the Piano with Lang Lang but was not overly impressed.
DD and SIL stayed over and they will go to his brother's for
their boxing day dinner. I will have a very relaxed day on my
own.
Thoughts are with those suffering sadness.

Good morning from Durham. A cold, dry start with a brilliant blue sky.
Busy yesterday and still getting the house straight! DGS2 ended up in the garden playing with his sandpit. He was exhausted by the time he was taken home.
No real plans today, but will probably see him again today, as his Daddy will be at football. I’ve admin and some emails to compose too.

Good morning all from a dry,bright East Yorkshire.

We had a very enjoyable day yesterday. I was spoiled by the family and had some very thoughtful gifts. Poor DIL had overstretched herself I felt with two small children and cooking lunch. She would not accept offers of help. DS the cocktail king made one that was green and called The Grinch. It tasted better than it looked!

We are having a quiet day I desperately need to get out for a walk. DH likes to go to the BD sales to stock up on his toiletries I’m not too keen. We may see DIL this afternoon for a cuppa as the boys are going to football. I have to decide whether to cook or freeze the turkey crown I bought.

Good morning everyone from a dry and sunny south Manchester. Boxing Day is always less frenetic. Less in the way of everything - food, expectations, pressure - I prefer it to be honest. A relaxed day ahead for us - picking up my stepfather this afternoon and going across to dear friends for a couple of hours chat with coffee, mince pies and a wee dram.

Good morning everyone from the south coast where there are now some patches of blue sky.
I was up early so I could creep downstairs, let Peggy out and deal with some washing up from last night as the dishwasher was full and some glasses needed hand washing. DD was really tired after such a busy day yesterday and DSiL is very regimented as to what goes where so when she goes down and finds the kitchen fairy has been I hope he’ll forgive me if something’s in the wrong place! 😂
We’re all going out for lunch today so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine and a walk afterwards.

Good morning from the Boggy Brae where it's colder than it has been for a few days. The Met Office's forecast of wall to wall blue sky was a bit wrong for today but I hope to be able to walk to the nearest post box – (~half a mile) to post the birthday card of one of my oldest friends. She does not use email/FB/Whatsapp – without getting wet.

Our meal of roast lamb, cornflour-thickened meat gravy, mint sauce and a mash of neeps and carrots was delicious and we didn't need anything else.

MrB and I both did some drawing/painting – him in oils, me watercolour – and I just about managed to keep contained my sadness about BTDD.

Eldest son has left to catch the ferry , his sister and her daughter didn’t make it , Covid hasn’t gone away 😒
Lovely dinner yesterday except that I hadn’t turned the oven on and the vast quantities of stuffing wasn’t cooked , a blast in the microwave sorted that , I’m afraid the pudding got the same treatment ! I’ll not do the pudding ever again !
Christmas seems to compound the sadness that is hard to bear any time of the year , thoughts and prayers to those we know of , and doubly for those bearing up in silence xx

Arrival of DD and co later today means an idle morning which I welcome. Being the hostess with the mostest yesterday was more tiring than I remember but a good day nevertheless.

Sorry to read Susan’s news, so much harder at this time of year. Waiting to hear about DDiL’s father whose sudden admission to hospital necessitated a cross country dash yesterday. DS reckoned his Christmas mileage nearly matched Santa’s.

Oh Baggs my thoughts are with you today. If I had a faith I would add my prayers for your darling girl. The stress you will be under must be immense right now. x

We had a lovely cosy and quiet Christmas Day - certainly when compared with the menage of DD and New Man and the five teens! Actually, because of steady partners added, they have now become the nine teens! Anyway, it was just lovely here - and certainly better for my (lack of) hearing 😉
Today will be another quiet day, this time of delicious Boxing Day 'pickings' Buffet and lessons for me from DS in how to use some more new electronic/computerised gizmos! I honestly am not stupid. Honestly! But when faced with technology my brain becomes as useful as an unset jelly ...... DS has endless patience. I hope.
Lovely to read of all your Christmas doings, and yesterday's thread, with contributions from many lurkers and newbies was marvellous.
Have a lovely time again today everyone, but as always my thoughts and hugs go to those for whom this time of year is 'difficult', sad and even downright lonely 🥀🦩

It's a beautiful, still day here in greater London. The sun is shining and the birds are singing. I'm planning to have a lazy day after the hectic one of Christmas day 😁🎅
