Good morning from a damp Colchester where it is calm before the storm. I have picked up a cold and so will miss our Wednesday morning coffee meetup which is still on despite the festivities.
A quiet day here as DH and DGS1 have gone fishing.

Good morning from a dark and wet Suffolk. I think it is the darkest start to the day in spite of having passed the shortest.

I remember from the days when we used to keep hens that the light in the mornings didn’t seem to increase unti well into January when they started to lay again….which depends on the amount of light. If we had snow the whiteness of that helped an earlier lay.

We had a lovely time yesterday with DS and family. One of the presents we both got from the DGC which I hadn’t seen before is a journal with questions and then blank pages to record information and thoughts about our lives and family history. When completed it can be handed back to them. A lovely idea that,aged between 10 and 17 they are interested and an interesting activity for indoor winter days.

I did very little yesterday, my pain levels are very high and I slept badly.
I have to make a decision regarding trying new biologic medication. The previous two nade me very unwell, but without them I am in agony. 👿 and 🌊 😉

As for butternut squah, unlike grapefruit, which you should not take, her is some inf:

People who use beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, or other medications that increase potassium levels in the blood should consume butternut squash in moderation to avoid developing hyperkalemia (too much potassium).

Another issue with hear medication is what type of antibiotics are unsuitable and can cause contraindications. You have to be hypervigilant with this.

I have a hairdressing appointment today for a tidy up. For the life of me, I couldn't remember the time. After mentioning it to DD, she sent me a screenshot of MY appointment card! 😂
I really can't be bothered, but it will make life easier.

Morning all from what I think is a wet and windy West Oxfordshire!
We had a good day yesterday. Sadly elder son developed an increasingly painful ear. He battled on and ate lots of Coronation chicken and trifle. By about 4 pm he really wanted to get back to Kew so his partner drove him and my granddaughter back. He is prone to ear infections so I hope he gets some relief today.
Daughter is back to South London today. She has work tomorrow.
Younger son is on holiday until 8 January so we don’t know how long he’s staying here for!
I made a batch of guinea fowl stock yesterday so will freeze it today. I must go through the fridge and see what food is left.

Good morning from a wet W Kent. Yesterday was a bit subdued, DD2 and family came for a lasagne lunch but DDS5 wasn’t feeling well. I think he had over indulged on Christmas Day.
We all watched a film and tried to relax.
Today DB is off back home after lunch and we can tidy up and try and sort ourselves out.
Ash Hope you feel better soon. Interesting regarding the butternut, the only one I know is grapefruit and statins.

Good morning everyone from a very dark and wet East Yorkshire.

I’m up early to meet up with my friend who’s visiting from down south. What with her plans and mine it’s a quick 9 am coffee. I am delighted her daughter and grandchild are with her too so wasn’t going to miss that. I’ve never met her grandchild so looking forward to that. A bit peeved that I’m sure she will have gifts and I’ll be empty handed 😬 she is a last minute Lulu.
After that we are off to see my dad in the midlands. Not the best of days to be travelling but hey ho.

That was interesting Ash re BNS who knew? Cheese seems to be causing my stomach a few issues this Christmas. Oh well all the more for DH 😀

A wet and wild start in West Oxfordshire, it doesn't feel cold though but, its so very dark. I enjoyed a lovely long dog walk with DS1 yesterday, so nice to spend time together. We indulged in delicious left overs and he went home with a weighty bag of treats and tasty nibbles.
So sorry to hear that you're still suffering Ashcombe, hopefully today you will feel better.
A quieter day for us today, just a soggy walk and relaxing in store.
I hope all those struggling with difficult times find comfort today.

Good morning all from a very wet and windy North Leicestershire.

We had a good day yesterday - I always enjoy Boxing Day - apart from the news that my brother has been admitted to hospital rather than having his last chemo therapy session and that my friend is suffering from severe depression.

We still have DD2 and family here and they are off to see one set of cousins later.

So, hopefully, it will be quiet for a while.

I’ve had a really enjoyable Christmas break, firstly at DD1s and then DD2s but hoping today to gradually get back to normal. So I’m off to the gym this morning to get a bit of exercise and then I’ll be home just after lunchtime. I’m looking forward to seeing all my gym buddies much more than the classes 🙁

Good morning Mick and all my gn friends from a very wet looks like snow and windy day here on the east coast of Fife. I had the most wonderful time with my family and they’re 2 dogs at Christmas, Father Christmas was so good to me. I think I’ll invite him round next year🤣must start saving.

A quiet time today and tomorrow before we’re back on the motorways for a family lunch at our elder son’s home. We’ll have had a very ‘mobile’ Christmas time, no complaints as it’s beyond wonderful to see them all.

I also didn’t know about butternut squash and heart meds ash. Useful information for Mr C. Hope you’re totally better now.

Good morning from a rainy Black Country, where it was bright and sunny yesterday!

A quiet day yesterday, where I had a small blitz and tidied cupboards and sorted out what we could throw away. Just had cold meats, pickles etc for tea.

Today off to Bristol to visit MrJ's DD's who bought a house there together recently. So looking forward to seeing it.

NanKate 3 of my granddaughters are taller than me. The youngest is 13 in 5 months, and she won't be long overtaking me too!

Good morning * Mick* and All from a damp South Bucks.

Hoping to leave early to make our trip round the M25 😳 to visit our ‘blended’ family, as they call it, near Brighton. Can’t wait to see our DGSs who seem to grow visible between visits. DGS no 1 soon to be 13 is on the verge of getting taller than me! He described himself jokingly on my last Birthday card as ‘your amazing grandson’ and it’s stuck 😀. They are taking us ice skating tomorrow, hopefully we will just be watching!

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cold, dark and windy so far but no snow.
It's been a lovely warm, indulgent couple of days in other people's houses.
DS & DDiL on C'mas day followed by DD's in-laws yesterday. I was able to enjoy 2 sets of DGC and there were phonecalls with the faraway ones.

Today I shall start to dismantle the Christmas craft market at the community store. The store is being reorganised in the New Year.

How nice to hear how important you are to DD gMattie especially when you have made that big move this year and had to put down new roots.

Good morning, it’s very wet here in south Gloucestershire after the lovely dry day yesterday.
DS and family are coming today, so looking forward to seeing them all. Dd is coming tomorrow so it’s going to be somewhat chaotic but lovely having everyone here.
I need to tidy around this morning and get the spicy butternut soup going in my slow cooker (I didn’t realise that those of us on beta blockers and ACE inhibitors can have problems with butternut squash Ashcombe 😵‍💫, I will be cautious!)
I hope that the incoming storm doesn’t cause too many problems 🙏

Good morning from the delightfully squidgy sofa in my son's flat in Cornwall where the wind is gale force and howling. I shall need a lift from my other son to the bus stop otherwise I'll get blown over.

A day of laughter and film-watching yesterday. Today I venture home while my broken-footed son is collected by his brother, partner and children for a trip into town to spend Christmas present money. At some point I must buy a new saw as I'll need to dismember my current bamboo sofa before my new sofa-in-a-box arrives next week as there's no other way of getting it out of the flat.

I didn't know about the potential butternut squash problem Ash; I'm on those medications, though I haven't eaten it since starting them and probably won't now!

Good morning from a wet and windy Bristol.
I woke up with a start, having dreamed that my Spanish class was today (it isn’t) and I hadn’t done my homework (I haven’t)! In fact, it is all for Friday next week…
I left DD’s yesterday, not wishing to imitate a fish (smell after 3 days). They have been inundated with visits and visitors, and DD’s many, many services. I felt they needed to have a bit of private time before they go off to his parents for the rest of the week.
Curiously, DD commented that I was her only family now (the aunts on both side don’t speak), compared to his large family. I was touched by her comment. She also told me how much she appreciated having me close by. This is the first time in absolutely years that she has shown emotion of that sort towards me. I was very touched.
Today is going to be quiet. I’m going to have a a few days alone, all the “distractions” are closed.
I hope and pray all the poorlies feel better ❤️‍🩹 and the forecast storm doesn’t affect you too much. This is the day for that random act of kindness.

Good morning, it is already windy and will also be dull and rainy all day. My broken cowl is half off and I can hear it banging on the chimney. No vehicle is below, roll on the 8th when the sweep is coming to replace it

What a nice day it was yesterday, not a lot of sun but it was pleasant and finally I did get my bike out for a short ride, which involved going through a flood. It is either hills or floods here

I made one pocket so far, on the front of my bag. I am working slowly and very accurately. So far so good and perhaps will do another pocket today. Mission of mindful and mind-occupying project is being achieved

More knitting later too and perhap a film. Nice and peaceful here, no noise, no squabbles and easy nice food

Good morning from a calm, fairly mild part of La Sarthe.

Yesterday wasn’t good. We’d had butternut squash (something I haven’t had for years) with our Christmas dinner which upset my stomach. Research revealed that it can react with certain heart medications (ACE inhibitors and beta blockers) in some people. As I take both, I’m guessing I’m one of the unlucky ones. Later my DD1 in Australia told me she’d had the same problem whilst pregnant, another documented problem for some. We live and learn!

I hope everyone else had a more relaxing Boxing Day. Unfortunately, we had to cancel an invitation to dinner from friends here but they understood, of course.

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the festivities. 🦩🎄🧑🏻‍🎄⛄️🦩
