Good Morning Saturday 6th January 2024

Good morning from frosty South Lanarkshire.

We took two of the GC out for several hours yesterday leaving the youngest with their Mum.
An hour at a small soft play centre let them use up a fraction of their energy then off to a cafe for lunch and ice cream before spending a while on the beach making drawings with sticks on the firmer sand.

Photo doesn’t do justice to the most vivid rainbow I’d seen in a long time.

No plans for today but may tidy up a bit outside while it’s dry.

Morning Mick, morning All. A very welcome clear sky over our corner of Somerset.

Enjoyed a sea front walk yesterday and a hot chocolate outside a cafe overlooking the water. Wonderful. It’s been so long since it was possible or comfortable to do that.

Mr C wants to do some deep cleaning in the conservatory today. Why? No idea but I’d best join in.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we are fortunate to have dry weather this Saturday. It’s chilly out and Alexa tells me it’s 1°C. Brr! We have no plans but at some stage I shall wander around our larder to choose food for the weekend. Even after all these years the proximity of it still delights me!

Good morning from Glasgow. Still dark but I can see signs of a heavy frost glistening under street lights. The forecast is for a sunny day. Hmm, that would be nice.

What a welcoming sight those snowdrops are Grammaretto.

An at home day but if the rain stays away at least I can wrap up and wander around the garden for some fresh air….and check for snowdrops.
Decorations all down now, just need to pack them away but I decided to leave the string of warm white fairy lights along the top of the kitchen cupboards up, a bit of cheer during gloomy short dark days.

Morning Mick and all from a dry, cooler S Hants. Yesterday I was cleaning too karmalady, not a favourite job.
Emptied out my parsnip tub and quite pleased with the result, I was cheered to see the miniature daffodils showing some green in the garden.
Today is the newspaper, check and submit my prescription online and make a few phone calls.
Those facing tough times I hope have a gentle day.

A nice walk with the dog this morning then I will carry on with my online course for using coloured pencils, so much to learn but very interesting 🤔

Good morning from Colchester where we're forecast a dry, chilly, overcast day.
DH took DGS1 fishing overnight. DS and his GF will sleep in until late. I'll potter and walk to Aldi for a few bits this morning.
Pasta bake tonight for an unknown number depending on plans made later.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -1° and frosty. The temperature here is up and down constantly. Sar enjoy your London trip. Ash I'm very fond of The Nutcracker. It sounds lovely.
Yesterday was a quiet day. I picked up clothes from M and S in the morning, then visited mum in the afternoon. She was much brighter yesterday. She's like the weather -up and down!
Today I'm meeting a friend for breakfast at the local garden centre. I'm tempted to buy new house plants but I kill them frequently. Not deliberately! Other than that, I have food shopping to do and housework. GrandMattie it sounds like your house is coming together. RosiesMaw hunkering down sounds like a good idea after your busy albeit delightful, days.

Good morning from a dark W Kent. Thoroughly enjoyed the film One Life yesterday, wonderful acting and very touching. We both felt better for some time out of the house.
Long phone chat with friend of over 50 years, she and her family had a difficult 2023.

Good morning all from a foggy Glasgow, where it's -2°C.

I have had little sleep, coughed all night, was sick and the pain in both hips was excrutiating.
I would have slept in the spare room, but all my sale bargains from yesterday are on the bed. 😉
I managed to get quite a few things for the girls' birthdays at much reduced prices.

I decided to take the back roads home from the surgery, because the roads were pretty congested. Bad idea!
I was driving along, happily listening to my music, when I encountered a long traffic jam. Because the road was a hilly, winding one, I couldn't see the cause. As the traffic moved, I spotted people ahead doing three point turns. There had been an accident involving cars and a bus and the road was totally blocked.
Eventually, I was forced to do a three point turn on the narrow, hill. I was quite proud of my driving skills!
However, it meant driving back all the way I had come. Thinking I was smart, I took another shortcut, but got lost. Where there had once been fields (in my childhood) there were now houses!

Today, I am going with DIL and Dollie to get her measured for her First Communion dress. She has firm ideas, about what she wants. Nothing fancy, gran! 💕
I am so tired, but I will as usual, put on my public face and enjoy the morning.

I haven't had a chance to read, but will come back later.

Good morning from DD2's house in Kent. A long journey yesterday which involved a change to my usual route, but I arrived in the end.
Lovely to see my 15 year old DGD, who is busy studying for her mock GCSE'S which start next week, and her 6 year old sister who is a bundle of energy.
We are going to London later to see Matilda, a birthday treat for the youngest.
I can't hear anyone up yet so I will stay in bed until I do.

Good morning all - pitch black here but it would nice to have a dry day to look forward to.
I am meeting D2,, SIL and GS for lunch then we are going o the RSC”Totoro my Neighbour” at the Barbican.
I was blown away by “The Motive and the Cue” on Thursday, I think Mark Gatiss as Gielgud absolutely made it his own and Johnny Flynn as Burton too. Very witty, perceptive and moving with it.
I was relieved the trains were running considering the rain and widespread flooding , fingers crossed for no delays today either.
Then I think I’ll hunker down for a few days and hibernate!
Kind thoughts to all with health and family problems, it can be a bleak start to the year.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
I had a busy day yesterday joining a work party for a short time who were rearranging our community shop and café for opening today. An industrial cooker has been installed and lots of cooking and baking was going on.

In the afternoon I joined my potters in the studio who are busy making new stock for our shelves at the said shop. Busy bees all.

I spotted the first snowdrops too.
I hope everyone has something nice to look forward to.

Today, I need to go to Waitrose and we are aiming to get the Christmas stuff into the roof.

Good morning from a chilly but dry Torbay

I can’t imagine what it's like for those facing floods, especially in one's home and hope the dry day extends to the drenched areas. Parts of inland Devon have had some problems but not to the extent elsewhere in the country.

Yesterday, we caught a bus to the seafront and enjoyed a walk along Torquay's prom in the sunshine, culminating in a delicious fish meal near the harbour. We were delighted to spot a poster for a performance of The Nutcracker on the 14th so have booked tickets. The company is Ukrainian and it will be accompanied by a full orchestra.

Decorations to take down, maybe a walk on the Downs and then a Twelfth Night gathering at our theatre tonight with mulled wine and mince pies.

Morning all from a damp and dark north Wales where I’m enjoying the chamberpot ☕️ before trotting off to my corner shop for a paper.

Belated birthday 🎂 greetings to Kitty for yesterday and a toast 🥂 to anyone with something special to celebrate- I hate January because we have no birthdays or anniversaries and it seems a dark and dismal month to me 🤨

I have a pile of sewing to do but might wait until tomorrow as some sunshine 🌞 is promised and I can set my sewing machine up in the conservatory and potter all day…we’ll see!

Hope those with floods and other upsets to their happiness have a peaceful weekend x

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s still dark but no frost and no rain and slightly cooler.
A quieter day today after yesterday’s marathon housework day. Maybe some baking. It is difficult to drive anywhere at the moment because of pockets of flooding. I can’t remember it being as bad as this for some years.

Good morning from a frosty Bristol. St least it’s dry for the next few days. It gives the poor flooded people a chance to regroup…
The Roscon de los Reyes went down well at my Spanish class; no one got the bean. I wonder which of the ones to whom I gave the rest got it. I hope it was a small child…
When I got home, I rearranged a load of furniture to accommodate the boxes and boxes of IKEA furniture arriving at some stage today. It will be the first of three deliveries and, I hope, the final lot of changes. I’m getting tired of “camping”, and forget where anything is because have moved it again .
Instead of wasting time waiting, I’m planning on making some marmalade. I’ll get the necessary when I get my paper in a while.
