Never reads!

Both AC and GC are omniverous readers. The living room was taken over by heaps of books after Christmas present opening., as ever. All our houses are lined with bookshelves.

We do read fiction, but most of the books are factual rather than fiction.

Have always loved reading.

Only started going to the library again just before Covid- one of the best things I ever did. I suppose up until retiring I didn’t have the time to read much.

Often read in the evenings if there is not much on the tv.

My DH rarely reads, he was not brought up in a reading household, and is a slow reader.

I was on my own most of yesterday, and spent most of the afternoon reading. You are never alone if you have a good book.

My grandkids read while they were school age but none are pleasure book readers as adults I think they read enough on their phones it’s just different

Just been talking about this with 2 GSs: one (15) has a brain like a planet and reads and reads; the other (12) doesn't read hardly at all, but loves audio books. They are just different people; neither better than the other for reading or not.

Visual learner and auditory learner.
Both equally valid methods.
It's strange, and sad, that visual learning tends to be perceived as superior 🧐

My GC never read. I find it strange, I couldn't be without a book. They think it's only old people who read,

Everyone is different. I always have a book on the go. My DH might read one when we are on holiday. 2 DDs read a lot and belong to a book club. The third reads a book occasionally. Her 7 year old either has a book or some sort of craft in his hands. Little one seems to be following. Eldest GS will devour any reading about cycles but not much else.
I have friends that I swap books with and some that only read magazines. I certainly don’t look down on any of them.

I am not judgemental. I know people who do not read. I had a friend who rarely read, I sometimes found it a bit awkward because what I have read forms part of who I am and what I talk about and when I did this she considered I was flaunting my bookishness and trying to put her down. I wasn't, but it ended I sometimes stilted conversatiosn because I was self censoring everything I said.

My second son was never a reader and still isn’t but strangely he encourages his four little ones to read. He takes them to the library and they have a house full of children’s books which are avidly read by all of them. The eleven year old is not allowed to watch a Harry Potter film before she has first read the book.

None of my 7 grown grandkids are book readers I guess their phones are their books They were all brought up with books

I was an avid reader until my eyesight became difficult for a number of years, and I thought when my eyes were restored
I d go back to reading but I just can’t get back into it now I ve tried and tried it’s very weird Read a few pages then it’s gone I really miss it and do keep trying

I can't imagine life without reading. DD had no interest in books while she was at school (so much for living in a house full of books being an encouragement) But I kept pushing interesting ones in her direction until she was hooked. People do have strange ideas about culture though. I once spoke to an acquaintance about a play I'd just seen. "Oh" she said "We don't go to live theatre" she made it sound as if I was talking about nude pole dancing! I don't think she read very much either.

I don't know anyone who doesn't read for pleasure! I certainly wouldn't look down at someone who didn't read but I would be sorry that they didn't know what they were missing.

Another bookworm here hollysteers. No, not judgemental about non readers. I often find those who like a lot of tv, Netflix etc don’t have time to read. Our leisure pursuits just suit ourselves I suppose that’s best. Each to their own!
