Not a close friend asked me if I would like to accompany her while she drove her foreign car to one of her flats in another country in Europe. She would leave the car there as she was getting a new one for here. We would fly back home.

The journey so long and took in a couple of nights in hotels. I paid my hotel bill and paid all the resturant bills plus a couple of supermarket shops for the food we ate at the flat, she also paid for a couple of shops, as we stayed in her flat for four days.

We have arrived home. I have a message saying she has costed up the tolls and petrol and halving the cost there is x outstanding but not to worry as I have payed for other things.
What do you think, my chin is on the floor.

No way would I pay a penny !

Yep, give this ‘friend’ a wide berth in future.

I wouldn't go near her again! She wanted your company, she should pay for it

You could offer an itemised bill from your point of view including your time and bill her for the balance?
But privately - bluddycheek!

When she says “not to worry as I have paid for other things” does she mean you’re not to worry because you’ve paid for other things and so she is paying for the tolls and petrol? It’s not very clear what she means, but if she is saying it’s ok, I wonder why she told you she’d split the bill? Very bizarre. I think I would be reluctant to travel with her again if she is expecting you to pay half the tolls and petrol when you seem to have paid the lions share of other costs.

Drop her asap !

Cheeky beggar 🤷 no way would I be doing any "favours" for them again and it someone else asks you for anything similar again I would ask quite clearly how much it's going to cost you in advance. Did you do any of the driving over?

Vito Fri 23-Oct-26 15:33:21

I would not give her a penny. Cheeky mare !!

Sounds like my ex. His logic ran something like that: What's yours is mine and what's mine's my own. I got rid of him eventually. Dare I suggest you do the same with your alleged "friend"?
By the way, if she asked you to go along in order to help her with the practicalities of selling & buying vehicles, you could gently remind her that your time is worth something, surely?

harrysgran Fri 23-Oct-26 15:40:05

She invited you along I think she has a cheek asking you now for money she's not a good friend
