Feeling rubbish today

Feeling much better today. Been taking the tablets, regularly, and it has helped. Then had a phone call this morning, saying I had a Bone Scan booked for next Monday , and will see the consultant again the following week. It goes on and on.
I shouldn't complain as I am being seen and monitored.
I have stayed indoors all day, in the warm, except for half an hour in the garden, putting away garden chairs, hose pipe and reel and covering my new-ish garden seat. It was not cold as there was no wind, but am indoors now trying to get to grips with a new crochet project.
Hope everyone else is keeping well.

HelterSkelter1

I had to really snap at a consultant who was airily brushing my questions away. Most unlike me who was brought up by a nurse mother who treated all doctors as gods.

He actually stopped in his tracks and was then polite and helpful. We have to have the courage of our convictions. Easier said than done when you are feeling vulnerable.

I don't want or need a smart phone...but actually, if I had one, I would be tempted to put it down on the desk and say "you don't object to my recording this conversation?" Could make a difference.
Hope you feel better soon. Cancer is a trial.

When l had cancer, many years ago, the conversations were recorded on a cassette by the consultant and given to the patient.

Auntiflo - rant away. Rant as much as you want. And I hope your glass is half-full again. 😘

Redhead56 Wed 10-Jan-24 16:40:28

Hoping your next scan is stable and your next appointment goes well. Nothing wrong with having a rant that's what we are here for.

Taichinan Wed 10-Jan-24 11:19:00

Auntieflo I do so hope the rant helped, and it's good you had your DH to give you a hug, and your DD to listen as well xxx. Sending you a hug and some flowers - I hope you have enough vases x

Hoping your spirits are lifted and your “glass half-empty” is back to being half-full 🦋

Aw, thanks so much everyone.
Yes, DH got home shortly after I got in, and I offloaded a bit. Our daughter also had a text, and bless her, she makes me feel better.
I suppose that it was because I had been feeling rotten since last Thursday that I was down, and that's not usually how I am.
More a glass half full type.
GN comes up trumps, again.

How dismissive Auntieflo I’m not surprised you’re feeling down, I hope youve had a treat to cheer yourself up.

Good advice momb your suggestion would give the oncologist the opportunity to manage the allotted appointment slot.

Sorry you were left to feel so lonely after visiting the Hospital.
You have come to the right place on Gransnet where you will find empathy and caring, listening ears & support - always.
It’s a sad indictment of the pressurised environment NHS Medics find themselves working in so it seems.
It is the system, not you Auntieflo. Take care 💐

Sorry you have had a frustrating appointment. Next time write down the questions you want to ask and near the beginning of the appointment tell the doctor you have 3 (or4 ) questions you want to ask them. Hopefully then they will not wander off without answering them.

susytish Mon 08-Jan-24 16:59:50

Hi Auntieflo did you have anyone with you, or someone to talk to when you get home? Hope you didn’t have to travel far.
It is lonely business, my husband has been battling cancer for years. There are some doctors who spend time, others are rushing off, nurses the same.
Don’t be afraid to rant.

rafichagran Mon 08-Jan-24 16:56:53

I am sorry you feel rubbish, I don't know what else to say. I am glad the nurse was kind and talked you.
Please take care of yourself.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 08-Jan-24 16:55:44

Hoping your next scan goes well, and the blood test. Sorry you had a rotten time - some have a nice bedside manner, some are almost rude aren’t they?
Sending you a hug and some 💐x

Urmstongran Mon 08-Jan-24 16:54:57

Oh Auntiflo what a dispiriting appointment you had to endure today. You deserved better. No wonder you’re upset. I think you’re feeling abandoned by the system. Sending a hug and hoping your next session is more supportive to you dear lady.

This morning I had an appointment with my ! Oncologist, to discuss the results of my last scan.
The clinic was running 20 mins late, which then changed to 45 mins delay. I know this can't be helped, as some patients need to speak for longer.
When I saw him, he was OK, but is not inclined to want to talk. Almost at the end of the appointment, he mentioned that my scan was stable, but said he wanted me to have another, in time for his next clinic in two weeks time. He then scurried off and left his nurse with me. She was lovely, as they all are, and took the time to listen and speak to me, as I hoped he would have done.
I have resigned myself to feeling tired all the time, but just have to accept it these days, but feel absolutely rubbish.
Blood test tomorrow, and so it goes.
Sorry to rant on, but wanted to vent somewhere.
