Has anyone used the Good to Go app

I had never heard of this until Bluebelle started this thread so a big thank you!

I downloaded the app and as we are staying at our holiday let with Booths a 2 minute walk away I thought I would try the app.

It took me 3 days of trying before I secured a £5 grocery bag, Booths is very popular the meat and fish apparently sells out in minutes.

My bag consisted of Booths fresh and very delicious Lancashire meat and potato pie ( did lunch for 2), 2 treacle tarts, a cottage pie for 1, broccoli in cheese sauce,and a big bag of delicious cherry tomatoes.

I will try again next time we are here for a meat and fish bag.

Used it once last year. Local organic shop, collected bag, very excited. It contained 2 tubs of margarine, both of which had expiry dates the actual day of collection plus a few pieces of fruit, all well past their eat by dates, brown and mouldy.
Complained on the site and saw soon after that the shop was no longer participating. It was food ready to be thrown our, not sold, however cheaply.

We all use it to better or less success. My daughter got about 2 kg of expensive cheese one day and my son regularly gets sushi. But they live in cities and I’m out in the sticks so only have one outlet.

You get the app from www.toogoodtogo.com/en-gb , which lists the places in your area which are doing the "Too Good to Go" scheme, then you put your name down for the one(s) you are interested in, and turn up at the appropriate time to claim it.

How does this work. I have a small m and s close by, also Sainsbury Aldi and Lidl.

I think Aldi are the best but for me the only one nearby is co op which I can walk to I have Aldi and lldle but they are both a bus ride away and not many buses after 6
I will try the coop again when I m better

M&S do the best ones

I have had it from Little Waitrose at my local garage. It was £5 for £15 worth of food. It was excellent and I mostly got foods that hadn’t tried which was fun. Now I’m not eating any meat or dairy it doesn’t work but if you want meat and dairy it’s great.

Waitrose stores used to mark down a lot at the end of the day but no longer do it.

M&S goody bags are the best.

It depends costa is the worse ...won't touch them.
Wenzels very good .
Use them a couple of times in the year.
Nothing more that 4 to 5 times.
Its pot luck really although very good idea.
I've heard one of the mentioned are very good Aldi or Lidl but can't remember which.

Never heard of it.

I tried it for the first time last week from a local bakery , hoping for scones or bread buns. It was really good value for £3.30 and they seem to be very popular and sell out quickly. I got a box of 4 scones, a huge Danish pastry, a fancy cupcake, a slice of pepperoni pizza, a steak bake and 6 cheese straws.

I did, but it was from a local deli not a supermarket. Everything was well out of date and stale but I daresay from a supermarket that won't be the case. Enjoy!

I tried it once at our local Booths . The £5 bakery option.
I went at 8.30 pm. Watched the store worker attempting to fill a carrier bag with a few loaves of stale , dry bread and struggling to find other baked goods . I was informed by the worker that it was always like this and I’d need to contact the app for a refund which proved impossible . So I came home and deleted the app. Never again.

I’ve used them for several years. Aldi collection times are too late for me, I usually stick to Morrison’s. Spar have been good, Nisa hit and miss, Co-Op the worst ( all yellow stickered stale bread that would have been cheaper off the shelf at the reduced prices). My daughter likes the Costa bags of cakes and pastries.

Morrison’s often have nothing left but I usually get an email and refund before I set off, only a couple of times have I got to the store to find there’s no collection, but I shop there anyway so it’s not a wasted journey. It used to be a good big box of food but lately it’s just a carrier bag. They can be naughty bulking the £10 worth of food out with eg multiple bags of slimy cut parsley or coriander (which I do not consider food!), or loads of already inedible broccoli or soft fruit. I inspect the contents before leaving the store and if it’s obviously only good for the compost bin they’ll always replace it. My favourites have lots of decent fruit, expensive to buy and I can freeze if I get eg 2kg of blueberries!

I always donate a good proportion of it to our village food bank too.

I have used it quite a few times. Costa once, wasn't impressed. A local Marstons vegetarian carvery, was pretty good all potatoes and veg. I've used Morrisons a few times over the past few weeks getting a couple of boxes at a time and sharing with friends - £3.09 a box. They haven't been too bad but had several duplicates or more of cut herbs (like 2/3 coriander + 2/3 mint etc) which can't always be used up quickly. Apart from that they have been pretty good value. Aldi's do it but it's collecting at 9.30pm and I don't like going out at that time plus it's 4 miles away.

I use them all the time. Some are better than others. Given up on Morrisons as they are full of bread (often squashed and damaged) but we love Aldi. We’ve had some really amazing bags from them. One had loads of fruit, veg, potatoes and bread as well as a huge piece of steak and a joint of pork. I tried a few and have stuck with the best ones although the most popular go very quickly.

Lidl do large boxes of fruit and vegetables for, I think, £1.50. They are right on date but absolutely fine.
The only thing is that they are beyond the tills so it's easy to miss them!

I've had a couple from Gregs, very laden with carbs but I suppose thats what you get from them, I did once get one from our local posh bakery but the danish pastries looked like they'd been sat on, there were some old muffins that weren't very appealing and a loaf of white bread that looked past its best. I don't bother anymore

Have done this a few times with different shops. The local Asda garage was basically all salads in a box and not much else. With an alternative garage we did really well with pies, sausage rolls, loaves of bread, salad and fruit.
My daughter has used local Greggs and other bakers prior to a day out and being hopeful was wanting picnic items such as sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. These have been real value for money. £4/5 has fed a family of four on several days out including pastries for breakfast.
We tend to do the 'Too good to go' when we are uninspired by what's in the house and fancy being surprised by whatever is in the bag!! Nothing ventured nothing gained!! We have been very fortunate in that we have never had to bin anything - although we did struggle with a tub of anchovies!!

It’s only a block notspaggetti that’s not a problem I was just disappointed but I ll try again Saturday
