Good Morning Saturday 13th January 2024

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° with clear skies. My windows are all steamed up with condensation though. I fear I really need new double glazing but not just yet. bellasnana happy birthday to your dd. Still learning safe journey to the Campsies.
Yesterday was such a nice day. My friend arrived before twelve and parked at my house. He brought me chocolates from The Highland Chocolatier which is a real treat. I had got him a pot of hyacinths. We walked to the station and it was so cold! My face was nipping. Then a walk to the Festival Theatre at the other end. Ash we were going to the matinée performance as neither of us like being out late in the city at night. On the way we stopped at a wee shop in Cockburn Street (Edinburgh folk will know where I mean) and I couldn't resist buying some unusual birthday cards and a reusable advent calendar which was made in France.
The ballet was wonderful. The dancing, orchestra, sets, costumes were all terrific. Once home, we bought fish and chips from my local award winning chippy. That was the only thing he would let me pay for. We've decided to go to the theatre in April and then see Swan Lake in May. It's good to have a culture chum.
Today I'm doing the usual shopping and housework. I'll carry on with my cross stitch too. It's a day for stovies I think. Have a good day all

Good morning everyone my fingers are cold peeping out from my cosy bed here on the east coast of Fife. It’s about -3 today my carers will come in around 9.30 freezing cold thankfully I’ve a warm house with the central heating on in every roo.

Coffee this morning with a friend then DGS2 wants me to take him back to see the dinosaur bones - his wish is my command!
I’m having the weekend off from the cleaning/decluttering. Slow and steady with it, plus the bin is full!
I’m a bit phobic over teeth, I fear I’m out living mine.

Enjoyed the sociability and laughs of the art session yesterday, but not sure how much concentration goes into it…

Just warming the house up, then will attack my list of to do things, always waiting. I have a coach tripped planned tomorrow so I hope that comes off weather wise.

Morning, all, from a sunny and chilly Boggy Brae. After I have eaten some marmalade cake (that I found in the freezer) with Greek yogurt, I plan to start a new painting. It is therapy as it requires concentration.

Son-outlaw phoned with the latest BTDD news on Wednesday. The prognosis is poor. We hope DD will be able to go home and be helped there. I have an appointment to keep on Wednesday but after that, whether she is home or not, I think I will go down for a visit. The OGs have offered all of us accommodation in their house – not very close but a lot closer than the Boggy Brae – if we need it. DD could not have become part of a better other family.

The Campsie Fells will look lovely today, stilllearning. Safe journey!

GM, does your marmalade cake have ginger in it as well? I use a Scottish recipe which does 😋

Good morning everyone from a dry but chilly south Manchester. We are hoping to see the family for an hour this afternoon. Our Boy Wonder is apparently enjoying golf lessons now and L’il Miss would like to share details of her up and coming birthday party. It will be good to see them all.

Good morning Mick and everyone from cloudy and damp Carlisle.
Not a lot got done yesterday. I waved my magic wand around, aka the feather duster, upsetting the little spider that lives in my downstairs toilet, it's gone into hiding behind the cistern now. Dusting is my least favourite housework activity and doesn't get done on a regular basis.
I phoned an old, newly widowed friend and was pleased to find him still perky and keeping up his interests at 90+. He's lucky to have his family close by.
I'm stopping in today as I need nothing except the newspapers and those I will read online. Admin will get done and then possibly some baking to use up store cupboard items. I'm gradually trawling through my stocks to see what does need using or chucking, then a wipe through of the cupboards all ready for the year ahead. It all gives my halo a good polish.

I hope your weekends all go well whether you're out or in.

Good morning from a dull & grey Sefton. A very s l o w day today after what has seemed a busy week although it may have been mainly 'smoke and mirrors'. Not at all sure that I achieved very much. So this morning it will be a quick breakfast, a shower/hair wash, put on a woollies wash and a visit to the farm shop. Rest of the day at leisure.
Greyduster Wasn't that (supposedly) an old Inuit custom when it was 'your time'? Only it would have been an ice floe & not the back lawn!

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton; 1°C outside. Should stay fine for the rest of the day, so I am off out to do a top-up shop, steak, chicken and pork chops are what I have a fancy for - and also have a mooch around Next and Sainsbury's clothes. Will also have coffee and a bite in the M&S cafe.

Spent much of yesterday morning on the phone to my travel insurers to add to my medical details,.which they were happy to do - they were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The surgery physio phoned yesterday with a diagnosis for the niggling back pain I have had; apparently the X-ray showed a slight curvature of the spine. Just take painkillers she said. So back on the phone to insurers again to add that to my list of ailments; they are happy to cover me for that as well.

An afternoon of reading Demon Copperhead, half way through it now.
Early dinner,.beef keema, then wrapped up warm and headed out to rugby. A packed stadium showed my Saints team at their best, beating French team Bayonne 61-14. There was lots of action at our end of the pitch which made for an exciting evening.

Good morning all. It's a lovely start here on the Angus coast. Yesterday's beautiful morning lasted for all of two hours before mist took over, so I'm hoping that doesn't happen today as well.
Now, I know the attached photo is not a beauty in any way - not a blue sky in sight for a start 😉 - but the first snowdrops valiantly poking their little noses through the earth and unfurling their pretty white petals always fill me with delight. Harbingers of Spring and full of hope. In two short months I will be out there waiting to see which daffodil is going to be first to bloom this year!
I like the sound of your 'culture chum' Grandmabatty and I'm glad you enjoyed the ballet. Lovely to look ahead to other outings as well.
Susan a young (71!) friend of mine has just taken up tap dancing and loves it.
Stilllearning I'm hoping your drive today goes without a hitch and the funeral is a comforting farewell to your friend. She would be so touched to see the effort you're making to be there.
I'm not a fan of tattoos, but DGD3 has just had one done, very discreetly, on the inside of her forearm. It says 'All my love always' in her Daddy's handwriting. It brings a lump to my throat and is such a beautiful reminder that love lives on long after we are gone.
This post has turned into a 'philosophical meandering of an ancient mind' so I shall go now before more of the same leaks out.

Morning all from a frost free S Hants, it will be cold all day. Well done to your rugby team BlueSapphire, MrJ is taking our grandson to his first premiership football game later today. I meanwhile will, after bunging the vacuum round, immerse myself in the paper.

Good morning all from South Lanarkshire. We have clear skies and sunshine here, a beautiful start to the day.

After lunch yesterday we took the little ones and the dog for a run around on the beach. Lots of fun was had with sticks, shells, and dried seaweed. Daft dog is in heaven on a beach although she isn’t tempted by the water.

A day of pottering ahead. I’ve started the border on a little blanket I’ve crocheted so I will probably finish that.

My heart goes out to you Baggs.

Very cold, grey and still here - a relief that the cold wind has dropped for the moment. An empty day, I think, so a chance to get down to some serious reading. Thoughts with Mdoll and Baggs and anyone having a tough time. Boredom and loneliness don’t really compete, and I am reminded to be grateful for the what I have.

Morning all from a very grey dull S E Essex.

I have to decide on dinners for this evening and tomorrow and pop to to the local shops down my road. Then it’s a continuation of my declutterring, yesterday I cleared out our en-suite and it looks much bigger and sparkling. Today it’s the airing cupboard, I appear to have enough towels and bedfellows for a small hotel, why?
