What Makes you Happy?

For me it's the simple things in life: watching the sun set or experiencing a thunderstorm; reading a book, knitting or crafting; looking after the home. I'm currently learning lots of techniques for folding bedding, towels, socks. It might sound mind numbingly boring to some, but it makes me happy 😁. But most of all, it's having family around me. I often organise family get-togethers for when my 86 year old father visits. He's incredibly agile for his age and travels for 2 hours on the train (with my step-mum) to visit us all.

I also love my grandchildren calling in unexpectedly, or getting a call from my adult children to invite Hubby and I to lunch.

What makes you happy? Maybe, like me, it's the simple things in life; or perhaps it's something more exciting...

Great topic, Fairycakes. Thank you.

You're more than welcome 😊.

- A few days on my own doing exactly as I want, when I want
- Gazing at a stunning sunrise
- Gazing at a stunning sunset
- Marvelling at a star-filled night sky
- Badger-watching
- The antics of my toddler dgs

From reading these posts it seems we all love the simpler things in life. Nobody has mentioned shopping, big houses, fast cars, or acquiring things - or even holidays. At the end of the day we all want the same things.

Simple pleasures that money can't buy are treasures beyond measure.

I love to drink my early morning coffee in the garden during summer months and listen to the birds singing.

Watching children play, laugh and giggle at the beach - no computer games, virtual reality headsets or mobile phones in sight 😁.

My wonderful family and good friends. Financial security. Cooking my food from scratch and enjoying looking after my body and health. Walking alone each day regardless of the weather while listening to my music on Spotify. A warm home. Feeling safe. A sunny day. Having time to enjoy reading. Watching a good TV drama. The list is endless. I am always grateful for life.

Apart from the family obviously, for me it is the very simple things, having birds come to the feeders everyday. The resident currently hibernating hedgehog snoozing away winter in my hedgehog house, seeing all my bulbs starting to grow and bloom. Being in my garden when the weather permits even for just a mooch around. On our walk today hubby had a blue tit feed from his hand. Simple things but anything to do with nature.

What makes me happy 🤔
Seeing my grandchildren
The warm sunny weather and being able to sit outside and have a coffee.
Seeing my husband smile and laugh as we have had a rough couple of years.
Having the energy to do things and not have to wait until I do have some.
For me it's tulips
A nice piece of fruit cake.

Think it's great that we all love family, nature and all the simple things that give us pleasure. For myself any day when the sun is shining is glorious and even better when it's warm enough to get out and do some gardening.

Having all my family around me. DS and family live in Australia so it doesn't happen very often. I'm happy with sun on my face and such but being with my whole family gives me such contentment.

Reading all your happy posts has made me happy! Feeding a pet magpie with a broken wing. This is the 4th winter he has lived in our rhododendron bush and will come to the patio door now for crumbs and water.

Among other things, finishing one of the items I make for a charity that supplies them to children’s therapists.

A hug from the Gdcs.

Seeing new leaves sprouting on the bare root roses I planted in November.

Seeing the first snowdrops recently.

Making a (rare) pudding for dh and witnessing his appreciation!
In fact any cooking for dh, since he’s always so appreciative.

Going to bed (a nice warm one since I’ll have switched the electric blanket on) with a cup of tea and a good book (print or Kindle).

Meeting any friendly dog when out for a walk. Or out anywhere.

Not to mention finally getting my dreaded tax return done the other day. I loathe paperwork, but it doesn’t take long at all so goodness knows why I always put it off until mid January, and have it hanging over me like a black demon.

Just in from a dog walk on a beautiful crisp sunny day -at last !-and warming up by log burner watching our two dogs and DDs puppy snoozing away.
Watching the birds on the feeder.Being outside in nature or the garden. In all seasons.
Coffee and cake .
Our grandchildren and their curiosity about the world and the funny things they say.
A soak in the bath with a good book.
My DH because he's kind and thoughtful.
Enjoying a relaxing breakfast after years and years of early starts when working.

Cooking in a warm kitchen with the log fire burning and Boom Radio to sing along to!

Do you know even if I won the lottery I would still be happy with a cosy little home and garden and the very simple things in life. I have never been into flashy things and keeping up with other people. So I agree with Fairycakes and am on your level.

My brilliant hubby always makes me happy and laugh! About 3am I was having difficulty in sleeping because of excruciating back pain that I've had since I was 34, I'm 58 now and it's 24/7/365 so he got up and rubbed a load of Uddermint Cream on it! We swear by ''cow cream'' for serious pain!

While he was rubbing it on he was making me laugh and pulling faces!

Our cat Wopsie and 5 fish, Nosher Jaws and Fangs, Wibbly Wobbly and Sid the shrimp!

Being in front of a coal fire, reading with a mug of PG Tips and scoffing a Co-Op Chicken Florentine pizza!

Hugging hot water bottles in bed!

Seeing our neighbour, Marian up and down the street most days, she's 98 and still does her own shopping etc.!

Filling in my diary and using feathers I've found outside, ribbons, stickers etc.

We have no TV or radio in our household by choice but have several hundred books between us!

Right now: looking out the window at the garden covered in snow. It is so beautiful.

So peaceful too, as the roads are covered as well, and those who can do so, have stayed at home, so far fewer cars around.

Freshly laundered sheets

My grandchildren popping in to see me

Mamo Wed 17-Jan-24 13:25:18

Singing!🎶 Lots of the above mentioned things make me very happy indeed, but my really happy place is when I’m singing, preferably harmonies, beside all my various pals in three different choirs!!

Summerfly Wed 17-Jan-24 14:29:51

The love and support of my wonderful husband. ❤️ My beautiful amazing daughters and grandchildren.
For being blessed with the gift of a singing voice.
The birds in my garden.
My dearest friends.
For my warm and comfortable home and so much more.
