What Makes you Happy?

For me it's the simple things in life: watching the sun set or experiencing a thunderstorm; reading a book, knitting or crafting; looking after the home. I'm currently learning lots of techniques for folding bedding, towels, socks. It might sound mind numbingly boring to some, but it makes me happy 😁. But most of all, it's having family around me. I often organise family get-togethers for when my 86 year old father visits. He's incredibly agile for his age and travels for 2 hours on the train (with my step-mum) to visit us all.

I also love my grandchildren calling in unexpectedly, or getting a call from my adult children to invite Hubby and I to lunch.

What makes you happy? Maybe, like me, it's the simple things in life; or perhaps it's something more exciting...

Money in the bank. Good health. Plenty of hobbies and social activities. Knowing all is well for family and seeing them.

Putting the key in the lock to open the front door of my tiny little house.
Walking by the Irish Sea.
Hanging out washing on a sunny day.
Doing a jigsaw while I listen to a radio play.
Changing bed linen.
Watching bees feed on nectar from flowers I have grown from seed.
Mixing a gin and tonic.

My lovely family, especially going into DS2's house and the two small DGC come running along the hall for a hug and nearly knock me over.
I made bread this afternoon, for the first time in ages, and it made me happy to see it rise.

Watching my husband walking in front of me hand in hand with one of our granddaughters ❤️ One of my DC ringing just for a chat. The first coffee of the day.
Eating our tea together on the sofa. Writing in my diary at the end of the day.
Meeting up with friends for lunch or just coffee. And lastly a sunny day in the garden.
Just shows how little the good times cost.

My 'happy place' is a combination of what many of you have already said: sitting in the summer house on a sunny morning in spring or summer, looking at the plants growing and blossoming, listening to children playing in the nearby school and birds singing, while sipping coffee and munching cake.
Just as good is when one of my granddaughters gives me a spontaneous hug and says "I love you, Nanna".

I've loved reading all of your comments. Most of the things you've mentioned are what make me happy too. Just the simple things in life. What a happy lot we are! (or at least appreciative 😁🎉🎉🎉)

Such a lovely thread to read. I have enjoyed it very much. It's the written equivalent of a warm fire on a cold day.

Just staying and being alive… in all its fits and spurts. I find joy in every day, no matter where I go, what I do or who I see.

My 70’s is definitely my happiness decade 💕. Retirement is a big part of it.

Seeing this on the front of the fridge. It was done by Gdd1 at least 2 years ago, but it’s still there. ❤️

Good morning. What a lovely hurkle-durkle that was! But with temperatures today rising to +4 (7° more than yesterday) no doubt this hibernation mode will cease!
Yesterday's drive into town was 'interesting'. No problem driving carefully down the hill, but gaining traction on the hard-packed snow to come back up was quite another matter. My trusty little Volvo did the job though. I remember last time, many years ago, when we last had a significant amount of snow and I was driving a Ford focus, I had to give up on the hill - with my house in view!! -and take a five mile detour to come in on the flat. The joys of country living.
And still on the subject of weather, I see we have Yellow Warnings for rain and wind on Sunday. Ugh!
I hope everyone is keeping cosy, and safe on their travels, and feeling a little better if poorly. Needless to say I haven't read any of the posts yet x
