Katie Hopkins as been quite rightly castigated after a viscous rant about Kate Garraway.

I do however feel that KG did parade her husband during his battle with Covid, it felt too intrusive to watch in an ICU bed intubated and hooked up to all kinds of support.

I’m sure he was not in a position to give his consent.

His recovery and return home was also put in the public domain, in my opinion it was too much.
There are apparently books and documentaries too.

I have never watched anything KG has presented or appeared in, I only know her as Derek Drapers wife, for which she now more famous for.

Should she have allowed Derek the dignity that Michael Schumacher has been allowed, his family have shown such love, care and respect, or was KG right to use her late husband to promote awareness?

Katie Hopkins is reckoned to have £2.5 million. Most of it earned through celebrity appearances on shows. Of course to keep that up she needs to say things that get her into the news.

I’ve googled her out of FOMO. Her face isn’t remotely familiar. But at least I will know her if I fall over her and will know who to report if she kicks me. Not much of a looker is she?

She lost in a libel case and had to sell her £1m home to pay £500,000 in legal costs.
Yet still continues with her poisonous comments. She can't be very bright 🤔

Kate Garraway had an estimated worth of £1.5 million in 2022, Derek Draper had an estimated worth of $15 million when he died. You do wonder how much money is needed by anyone.

I have no knowledge of what has been said by KH but regarding Kate Garroway, i think she is truly remarkable. I can't imagine that she would have gone against her husbands wishes, she was truly devoted to Derek and her children and boy oh boy has she given 'it' her all.

I think the effects of covid need to be told.

The "simply a cold cope with it" attitude needs to be addressed and Derek Draper's very sad death throws more light on what can happen. And has happened and is still happening to very many people of all ages. For that I am grateful to KG whether she is gaining financially or not. I expect any private treatment he had has cost a vast sum.

Good post, HelterSkelter

Although Derek Draper's case was one of the worst cases of Long Covid, there are still many people suffering the long-term effects of it today.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t know who KH is. I wouldn’t know her if I fell over her.

She'd kick you while you were down, Germanshepherdsmum
And laugh whilst she was putting the boot in.
Odious woman.

Come down my way. She's often seen in our Waitrose café on her tablet, sipping coffee! You could accidentally fall into her! Oops! ☕️

I understand what you are saying and I did at one point agree with you early on in Derek's illness but then found out that everything was in Derek's name (which I found a bit unusual as my late husband and I always had joint bank accounts.)

Apparently she had no access to money at the time only what she was earning herself which did not cover all the expenses that occurs when someone is ill. I know what she went through because I was my late husband's 24/7 carer for the last eight years of his life and had to buy every single piece of medical equipment because the NHS always asked for it back a few months after loaning it to us. Luckily I had access to our money as like I said it was in joint bank accounts but I did not have a way of earning money as I was a 71 year old pensioner at the time of my late husband's illness. We did not have carers as it was expensive and we were both pensioners with two state pensions and a small private pension so we had to watch the pennies because we were over the income threshold for any help with benefits. We were refused Attendance Allowance over and over again as I was told my husband was not ill enough to claim it but when I wrote to our local MP she got involved and we were given it immediately, sadly my husband died three months later.

So I do think that Kate has used every means possible to earn money for Dereks treatments and I applaud her for that and she has also brought to light just how bad Covid was.

I wish her and her lovely children all the very best in the coming years without her husband, as like I say, I know what it is like.

I’ve just been on companies house, she was a director of three of his companies.

Personally I'm very grateful that someone went public about the life-changing aspects of Covid and other post-viral syndromes.

I think she will be OK financially apparently her salary is £544.000 per year and her house is worth 4 million.

Are you sure? It's a 5 bed semi, probable value half that amount, even with alterations.
Surely none of this should be about the price of someone's house, their salary, their book deals, but about the cruel comments made by Katie Hopkins. She is out of order.

keepcalmandcavachon Tue 16-Jan-24 15:33:34

There but for the Grace of God..

Allsorts Tue 16-Jan-24 15:33:07

No doubt Kate did it for the best, but I wouldn’t have done it, not for any amount of money. I felt it was intrusive and very distasteful, but that’s just me, everyone does things their way. I tried to watch it but I couldn’t as I felt is so intrusive. She obviously didn't need the money. I did wonder how much Derick would have wanted it. My husband when he was dying was the opposite, very private.
I won’t comment on Hopkins except to say I don’t think she’s right in the head, the awful things she says about people, so very unkind, , whatever KG did, she loved Derick and she’s bereaved. I’m sure her heart is breaking. KH should out a sock in it. Did wonder if KG was after donations.

pascal30 Tue 16-Jan-24 15:28:07

I found the one documentary I watched extremely harrowing..I feel a lot of sympathy for KG as she probably had to raise an enormous amount of money if he wanted to be at home.. It was undoubtably a very difficult choice ro make, however I also believe that people should not have to undergo the indignities that DD had to endure.. and that the children should not have been involved in the filming.. Dying privately and with peace is surely what we all want..

Don't jnow anything about the other Kate and don't feel compelled to find out after all these comments about her..

How do we know why Kate Garraway did what she did and we will never know what her husbands wishes were. I only know of my circumstances when my husband was taken ill and spent two years in a nursing home suffering from dementia. He made me promise not to let anyone other than myself our children and close family to visit him as he didn’t want anyone to see him in the decline he knew was coming. I did this for him and at his funeral a couple of weeks ago when people said they would have liked to visit him I thanked them and blamed it on Covid restrictions. Katie Hopkins is IMO wicked to do what she has done and my heart goes out to Kate Garraway and her family at this very sad time.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-Jan-24 14:55:38

I wonder if DD would have liked the world to be told that he was doubly incontinent?

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 16-Jan-24 14:52:46

Oh BlueBelle-what an interesting idea. Surely there's a reality show in there somewhere

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jan-24 14:44:55

I m sure I remember that Kates Garroways husband DID give his consent when he was able to and after all she was the main person who would have known his views I don’t think she would have done anything she thought he wouldn’t want
It was moving to see the love the kids showed their poorly dad
Yes some things were over shared but I think she made the right decision and it’s important to see what a disease can do

Kate Hopkins is poisonous, a dreadful woman she should marry Andrew Tate and live on an empty desert island somewhere
Evil woman

Delila Tue 16-Jan-24 14:41:36

I don’t think any of this is a legitimate subject for discussion, let alone an excuse for gossip and speculation about someone who, together with her family, has gone through a living hell, the outcome of which is the death of her husband.

And Hopkins should be ashamed, but she’s incapable of that. She, no doubt, is the one hoping to make financial capital out of someone else’s heartbreak.

Glorianny Tue 16-Jan-24 14:36:24

Never liked either of them. Didn't follow the story of KGs husband. I'll never understand why anyone wants to see someone who is seriously ill and dying, or why anyone would want to make such a thing public. KH is just someone who makes a living being offensive. Turn them both off and ignore. Don't feed the need.

Out of interest do those people that think it was wrong of Kate to use her husband to promote awareness of long covid also think the publicity that Rob Burrow is getting for motor neurone disease wrong also? Or the lovely lady who garnered so much publicity for bowel cancer? Can anyone explain if there is a difference and, if so what is it.

The difference is that Derek Draper did not personally publicise his situation (and I have doubts that he was capable of consenting to his wife doing so). KG did not act purely to raise awareness of the damage that covid can cause - she was financially motivated.

I agree GSM.
Rob Burrow was not and is not a self-publicist, it was his friend Kevin Sinfield who started to make money for Motornurone research by doing 30 marathons in 30 days. He brought the plight of people suffering from Motornurones disease to public awareness.
The Burrows family as Rob Burrows has " capacity ",would be able to give their consent to any publicity they are used for.
To compare it would have had to be Mrs.Burrows with her limited knowledge of how to do it, to start the publicity off, and as yet shown no financial motivation the money I believe is going to research.
