Katie Hopkins as been quite rightly castigated after a viscous rant about Kate Garraway.

I do however feel that KG did parade her husband during his battle with Covid, it felt too intrusive to watch in an ICU bed intubated and hooked up to all kinds of support.

I’m sure he was not in a position to give his consent.

His recovery and return home was also put in the public domain, in my opinion it was too much.
There are apparently books and documentaries too.

I have never watched anything KG has presented or appeared in, I only know her as Derek Drapers wife, for which she now more famous for.

Should she have allowed Derek the dignity that Michael Schumacher has been allowed, his family have shown such love, care and respect, or was KG right to use her late husband to promote awareness?

I just didn’t want to post my views on the bereavement thread Bella as I didn’t feel it was appropriate. Here I can say what I have thought about KG’s actions for a long time. I consider what she did very distasteful.

Thanks, maybe I did use the wrong thread and should have waited like you. I still think her actions were distasteful.

A nasty vicious attack by Katie Hopkins. I think KG is genuine, and she wanted to show the affects of long covid. Derek also worked in the media and I am sure he consented to this. Kate is now bereaved with a young family and Hopkins should have kept her nasty gob shut.
I respect GSM for not commenting on a bereavement thread, so do not know why Bella is amused, there is nothing amusing about this. GSM knew it was not appropriate. You however Bella in my opinion were distasteful, nasty, and disrespectful to posters who posted to pay their respects on a bereavement thread. You were asked many times to start another thread.
I don't agree with GSM but this is a thread where she has a right to her views.

I had not seen the other thread until this morning, after reading comments here I decided to take a look.

I don’t think Bella23 was distasteful, nasty or disrespectful.

She just had a different opinion.

Kh was awful saying all that a disrespectful woman.

henetha Tue 16-Jan-24 11:15:02

Yes, I do take your point. KG had no choice therefore.

Harris27 Tue 16-Jan-24 11:14:23

I felt similar about privacy but did watch her documentary on the covid affect on their lives and felt heart sorry for all of them.

Urmstongran Tue 16-Jan-24 11:12:00

Elton John is apparently a good friend of hers. I doubt he’d see her sink.

I too found the endless publicity about KG's husband a bit hard to understand, but nevertheless did feel deep sympathy for the family.
But there is no excuse for the nastiness of KH.

Casdon explains why and where the money was spent.

All the money Kate Garraway made on the films has been spent on the care of her husband. She had to close down his company which was in debt, and may have to sell her home because of the care costs. A little more compassion is needed here.

"Celebrities" will always court fame and attention full stop.

But KG has brought Long Covid into public awareness. I am still amazed at the number of people who still say to me Long Covid what's that? And often surprisingly people who I would not have termed Hard of Thinking.

What KG has done no doubt one of us would have done and who would be interested anyway. And I have no idea what KH has said, but it sounds like par for the course. Ignore ignore.

Personally I have found the actions of Kate Garraway uncomfortable...while I can empathise with her wanting people to see the reality of her husband's condition and perhaps the impact of being a carer, it was all a 'bit too much' for me - the man deserved privacy and dignity, unless of course he had consented?
Katie Hopkins on the other hand...well I can't think of any nice way to describe her!

MissInterpreted Tue 16-Jan-24 10:59:35

I'm keeping my opinion on Kate Garraway to myself, but Katie Hopkins is the lowest of the low - she knows exactly what she is doing and will deliberately say the most vile, cruel things just to get more attention. She is a thoroughly nasty piece of work.

I sometimes wonder whether Katie Hopkins suffered brain damage as a result of her (previously) poorly-controlled epilepsy. There must be some reason for her awful behaviour!

Harsh!
Katie Hopkins had severe epilepsy, she had a very risky procedure to cure the epilepsy.

She was necking red wine when she made the vile video apparently.

Imarocker Tue 16-Jan-24 10:56:14

Apart from wanting to highlight the effects of Covid, Kate Garraway needed to sell their story to pay for the 24/7 care, otherwise he would have had to stay in hospital. I read that she will probably have to sell her house.

Callistemon21 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:49:01

Fair enough, Germanshepherdsmum

We're all entitled to our views but there is a time and a place.

I still think Hopkins is out of order so soon after a bereavement.
At least Australia had the nous to deport Hopkins after she boasted about putting frontline staff at risk of catching Covid from her. Unfortunately we had to take her back.

I agree Callistemon21. Hopkins is a vile woman and will sink to any level for the publicity she craves.

Callistemon21 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:37:50

I'm glad it amuses you Bella23

However, I find none of this amusing in the slightest.

Some of the posts on a bereavement thread were a disgrace. Most posters refrained from airing their views out of respect for Derek Draper's wife and especially his distraught children.

Bella23 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:32:52

Sorry GSM.

Bella23 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:32:02

It amuses me that opinions are changing rapidly from the post that I answered to last week and was castigated for. Are people so easily swayed?
Thank you GMS I wish you had said this last week it consolidates what I said.

Juliet27 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:31:32

I didn’t follow the filmings but did recently see one bit on the news where the children were brought in to hug him. I felt sorry for them having to do that in the public eye but maybe, if I’d watched more, I’d have perhaps seen that they were used to it.

Callistemon21 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:26:11

Whatever anyone thinks about the rights and wrongs of the programmes about Derek Draper, surely no-one could ever condone what Katie Hopkins has just done to a desperate, grieving family?

Dreadful, dreadful woman. 🤬
