Mick

Good morning from a very frosty Suffolk where sun is promised later.

I’m off to London for the day to meet up with an old work colleague when we were in a research team over 50 years ago. We are meeting at the British Museum where we have tickets for the exhibition there about Burma and its art and textiles.

I must allow enough time to defrost the car to drive to the station.

My thoughts are with those who are experiencing upsets and distress. May you find some comfort today.

Good morning all, -4°C here in Glasgow, warmer than yesterday.

Condolences GM and I hope today goes as well as it can, Susan in the circumstances. Remember to look after yourself too.
Hopefully you will hear of your appointment soon, Ash.

Safe journey Grammaretto, it will be wonderful to see your family and homeland again.

Another hameildaeme ( home will do me) day for me. This cold weather is badly affecting my lungs and joints. I have had very little sleep.

Take care all, who are travelling and brook enjoy the sunshine. 💚

Good frosty morning from Plymouth, judging by the cloudless sky, it’ll be another stunner of a day on The Hoe.

My thought are with those of you who are struggling with losses (my condolences), pain/discomfort (my sympathies), and turfing out/culling/tidying areas that require it (very cathartic).

I shall be pottering, taking some never-used-but-always-handy-to-have plastic storage boxes of all shapes and sizes for the “hedgehog sanctuary” box in Tescos this morning, think what I’m going to do with all the pink wool I’ve bought for my new granddaughter (who now has eczema so cannot wear hand knits), and may break open some drawing pencils with DH so we can actually start our new hobby together… or I can just plug my earphones in to listen to my audiobook and crack on with some housework or walk the dog… oh, the freedom of retirement!! LOL

Good morning from a -4 W Kent. Yet another quiet day. The visit from the builder yesterday resulted in the wrong colour fascia being put up so now have to get that sorted out. DH seems a bit better this morning.
Condolences to gM.
Thoughts with Susan and Ash
Keep warm

Gala Thu 18-Jan-24 08:03:27

Good morning from a very frosty & sparkly Sefton, -4 apparently. Having slipped on ice some years ago & ended up with a badly broken wrist I am reluctant to venture out in such conditions but needs must. I have a Zumba class first thing, then need to visit the fish man & do a food shop....it is good to get back to my weekly routines. I feel,I am turning into my mother. 😬
Condolences grandMattie. Do take care out there everyone.

Taichinan Thu 18-Jan-24 08:02:12

Good morning all from the Angus coast where it sounds as if it's warmer than 'down south' at -3° at present. We're still an hour away from sunrise but when it comes it's promised to be wall-to-wall. A rosy glow is anticipated.
So sorry to hear about your sister gmattie flowers
I hope all goes smoothly with m-i-l's funeral Susan flowers
How exciting grammaretto! Safe journey and have a wonderful time.
My normal Thursday today, with tai chi and a bit of shopping. I shall also deliver a small birthday gift to a friend. Anyway I shall soon have to go and rescue my car from its own little ice block - there has been no thaw at all since the snow fell on Tuesday afternoon, although I did hope ........ I keep wondering how all my little snowdrops are doing under the snow, and how the fish are doing under the ice.
Lovely to have all those trips planned Mick - when's the first one?
Try to have the best day you can everyone, and keep warm x

Georgesgran Thu 18-Jan-24 08:00:04

Greyduster Thu 18-Jan-24 07:55:20

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It is -4 outside here at the moment, and was only 8.8 in the house when I woke up at six so I overrode the timer and whacked the heating on! It has currently managed to scrape up to 10.9! I am supposed to be going out with the walking group this morning, but I just don’t fancy the early start, so I’ll walk locally and then drive over to DD’s as usual and call in on my niece on the way home. I have a haircut scheduled for five o’clock.
grandmattie I’m sorry to hear about your sister. I miss both mine sorely.💐
Have the best day you can, folks.

fancythat Thu 18-Jan-24 07:48:02

Sorry about your sister grandMattie.

fancythat Thu 18-Jan-24 07:46:33

Good morning from down South.
Frosty here too. Supposed to snow later?

Dentist appointment this morning.
May leave here later than was going to, so less icy hopefully.
Not looking forward to today.

harrigran Thu 18-Jan-24 07:39:01

Good morning from the NE where it is -3 with a hard frost. Woken by a neighbour scraping the car and sitting with the engine running.
I won't be leaving the house today, maybe tidy the kitchen cupboards, I like to sort them frequently.
SIL arrived home in Brussels, journey was okay but he said St Pancras was bedlam.
I heard last night that M&S in our town is to close, shame as it is the only shop that also sells food. When it goes we will be left with charity shops, coffee shops and a couple of downmarket clothing shops.
Condolences grandMattie 💐

Bellasnana Thu 18-Jan-24 07:37:47

Good morning from Malta where I hardly dare mention that it’s 21°C today.

grandMattie, my condolences on the sad loss of your sister.💐

Ash a worrying time which I hope will be resolved soon for you.

It’s my long day babysitting today as DD3 stays late. At the moment the boys and I are watching Alcaraz v Sonego. I’m getting them interested in tennis at an early age!

Sending hugs to those with worries and sorrows to contend with. Hope everyone as the best day possible.☀️

Bonnybanko Thu 18-Jan-24 07:36:47

Good morning all it’s going to feel like -5 today with the wind factor here on the east coast of Fife. I’m definitely staying cosy in my humble abode today.

Thinking of those less fortunate than me - take care my friends. 💐💕

RosesandLilac Thu 18-Jan-24 07:34:12

Good morning from a very frosty -8° in south Glos., it’s not going to get above freezing today apparently.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sister grandMattie 💐
Yesterday a trip to the hairdressers and a lovely natter with my friend, then home to the warm. My new office chair arrived and I assembled it quite easily, it’s very comfortable and somewhat swish after the rather ordinary one I’ve been using for probably 20 years!
So today more drawing and I have art group this afternoon in the village, so a lovely day for me 😊
Take care everyone 🌹

Pantglas2 Thu 18-Jan-24 07:32:09

Good morning all from a cold north 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 where I’m being treated to the chamberpot ☕️ in bed!

Mr PG must have new Duracells in because he’s been up for an hour clearing the cupboard for Mr Vaillant 🧑‍🔧 to repair the boiler and I’m urged to stay out of the way….🧐

So sad to hear your news grandMattie 💐 and hugs to Susan and Ashcombe with your challenges ❤️

Have a smooth trip Grammaretto , some photos would be lovely if you’re not too busy 😉

Some pottering for me today, sorting out bed linen that needs keeping as dust sheets and ordering new flannelette covers ….🤗

Have as good a day as possible folks x

Pittcity Thu 18-Jan-24 07:29:41

Good morning from Colchester where dawn is breaking with an orange glow. The weather app says it's minus 4 outside. Not getting much above freezing all day, but it's going to be dry and sunny. There was no sun yesterday which made the coldness feel much worse.
No plans today, so I'll change the bed and get to work on some spring cleaning. DH will go to the gym this morning and we'll take a walk together after lunch to get some very fresh air.
Sending hugs to GM, Kitty and all who need them.
Love to all 🦩 x

kittylester Thu 18-Jan-24 07:17:46

Good morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

Some very sad news on here today. I heard yesterday that my friend is critically ill.

Today I have to do some bits of shopping and then we will go to deliver a present to DGS4 for his 12th birthday.

cornergran Thu 18-Jan-24 07:12:43

Sad news grandmattie, thinking of you. flowers.

I’m sorry there was no definite outcome ash. It must be worrying. Hope you can have a scan quickly. X

Mizuna Thu 18-Jan-24 07:08:04

Good morning from a cold, clear Cornwall with sun forecast today. Condolences to you gM. 🌹

At the craft group I made a three-piece plaque which is still drying. Later I'll construct it with gold wire. I sat next to an ex-biker and we had a lovely chat about motorbikes; I don't know anyone else who's had one, so that was a treat.

To the bank this morning - we still have three open in our town! - to change my rent standing order; first increase in eight years so that's ok. Then to a friend's to deliver her birthday present - a 1,000 grown-up dot-to-dot book of famous paintings, which will make her laugh.

Grandmachrisy47 Thu 18-Jan-24 07:07:56

Not opened curtains yet so don’t know what the weather is doing though Alexa says it’s minus 2 outside.
Out this morning to a local town to have a facial and pedicure. I get a lift at 8.30 but get the bus home so won’t be home before 2pm.
Condolences, gMattie. Safe travels Grammaretto hope you have a smooth journey.
Stay warm everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 18-Jan-24 06:42:43

I am off to London later for a study day at Tate Britain on Women Artists. Afterwards I’ll get the tube to Kew and have dinner with elder son and family. Then home!
Have a good day everyone and wrap up warm.

Grammaretto Thu 18-Jan-24 06:41:42

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's -7°C with frost on the inside of my bedroom windows.

I'm as set as I'll ever be to leave for NZ today. My df will drive me to the airport.
I'm visiting my DS and family for a month. I may not be on here but I will read your posts if possible.

Mick your plans are well in place. Good for you.

gMattie How sad to lose a sister. It must bring back memories of happier times. Condolences flowers

Your jumper sounds beautiful Karmalady

I hope everyone has a good day and stays cosy.
