Late in the day, as it usually is when I get to read the threads, but have to add my condolences to GrandMattie on the death of her sister and hoping that Susan's MiL's funeral went as well as these things can.
Also hoping Ash gets her MRI/CT scan sooner rather than later and that kittyL'S friend finds comfort and relief.
There are lots more I should mention but they and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers flowers

Good morning from a bright, sunny but very cold Dunblane. It is reading -7C here at the moment. We were going to go out for a morning coffee to M&S but will have to wait till the car thaws it is frozen solid! Had a visit to the hairdresser yesterday for a much needed cut and shampoo was lovely and warm in there. I have been doing very little outdoors this last week as I have developed a fear of slipping on the ice. Dh says I overthink it but that doesn’t help! I also must do some culling especially of DGd’s toys and books they are too big for now. Have best day you can everyone.

Good morning Mick and all from sunny Lancashire, currently -4°C.

Still very icy outside so don’t think we’ll be going for a walk today. The frost looks beautiful sparkling in the sunshine but I can’t risk a fall. At the moment I’m getting in some exercise walking up and down stairs in addition to usual core and balance exercises.

I heard from the eye centre yesterday, I am booked in for a second Botox jab on 21st February. The first one has been so effective, the eye is now only drifting off when it’s tired. I will always struggle in bright sunlight due to previous retinal damage and there’s nothing I can do about that. I would find driving impossible and I am glad I took the decision to let my licence lapse.

It’s good to hear you sounding so positive Mick after your health problems. I love Motown and Atlantic soul classics.

So sorry to read your sad news GrandMattie flowers.

Your jumper sounds lovely*Karmalady*. I love natural yarns.

Safe travels Grammaretto your trip sounds fabulous.

I’m rather envious Bellasnana although I’m a Northerner at heart and find the Arctic more appealing than the Mediterranean!

Happy Birthday to your DH Kalu, hope he enjoys his day.

Thinking of all with worries, Baggs is always in my heart.

Wishing a Happy Birthday to MrKalu 🎂

Good morning Mick and all from a -2°C Sunnyside northwest coast.
Not much to report, I’m off into the city later for a meal with a friend and then a symphony concert, but still have my hibernating mood on me..

Condolences grandmattie thoughts to Susan and hope things get sorted Ash
Thoughts to all with worries 🌺

Happy birthday to MrKalu🎂

Grandmabatty Thu 18-Jan-24 09:27:58

Kalu a happy birthday to your Dh.

GrannySomerset Thu 18-Jan-24 09:14:27

Beautiful bright and very frosty morning which lifts the spirit even while it numbs the fingers and toes. Thinking of all with a difficult day ahead and hoping Gramaretto has a great trip. All I have in prospect is a hair cut and a visit to the supermarket and trying to stay warm. I’m sure I never felt the cold when I was younger. What is it about turning 80 that not only doubles insurance costs but heating bills as well?

Kalu Thu 18-Jan-24 09:13:26

Good morning from Glasgow. I haven’t checked the temperature but it is bitterly cold with a heavy frost. 🥶 we do have sunshine at least.

My condolences GM
Sorry to hear the sad news of your friend Kitty
Such a worry for you Ash
Have a wonderful catch up with your family Grammaretto
You are never far from my thoughts dear Baggs

No need for me to go out today so a coorie doon day with DH to celebrate his birthday. None of our usual birthday celebrations, DD1 and the girls will arrive later today, DD2 has FaceTimed from OZ and I am just delighted he is still here…beside me.

Best wishes to all for a good day. Sending love and strength to those with sadness and difficult times.

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle where it was -6°C when I got up. I overslept a little after a rather broken night. I'm still fighting some sort of infection/s which keep returning.
I shall plough on today regardless, bathroom cleaning and ironing could be done plus someone is coming in to set up my new sound system, I am regretfully dispensing with the old one and its dvd player which have not harmonised well with the smart tv.
I stayed firmly in yesterday only popping out to retrieve the wheelie bin. Fortunately, there was a narrow dry bit down to it, the rest of the drive, as are the pavements and roads, being a skating rink. As they are still.

I'm sorry you have lost a sister, grandMattie. I guess it makes difficulties for her family, having to bring her back from Australia?

Easy journeys to all of you travelling and the best possible day everyone.

BlueSapphire Thu 18-Jan-24 08:56:51

Good morning everyone from a bright, sunny 🌞 and frosty Northampton; -4°C here today.
DD, who stayed here overnight, is still in the land of Nod.... It's nice to have someone else in the house.
We had a lovely night at our wine club dinner, even though the restaurant had mislaid our booking..... but we were accomodated, and started with two bottles of Prosecco to celebrate 70th and 80th birthdays. More wine was consumed as we enjoyed our meal, and when the bill came they had knocked off the price of the Prosecco as we had been kept waiting while they prepared our table of 9!
Taxis which I had booked were efficient, and the drivers kindly helping us ladies in and out.

A quiet morning apart from a Sainsbury's delivery, then two dance classes after lunch. Home to read more of Demon Copperhead.
Fish for dinner.

My condolences to grandMattie on her sad loss.flowers

Safe travels to NZ, Grammaretto, have a wonderful time!

Wrap up warm if out and about today!

.

Beechnut Thu 18-Jan-24 08:54:17

Good morning everyone from Severnside.
Sending my condolences on your sad loss grandMattie 💐

It’s a very frosty and cold start. Hopefully to get better as the sun is shining.
I’ll go out to do the weekly shop once the car has defrosted naturally.
Yesterday I had the boiler serviced and explained what I was unhappy about. He told me what he would do and told me to keep an eye on it. I know a bit more now than I did before.
I’ve also to make a new to do list as there are a few jobs I want to get done this year instead of keep thinking about it.

Keep warm everybody and thinking of you all ❄️🌺

Marydoll Thu 18-Jan-24 08:49:00

Alexa tells me it is now -8°C! Brrr, probably best to hunjer down!

Alygran Thu 18-Jan-24 08:43:20

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s frosty but loooks like the sun may come out.
Grandmattie condolences to you.
Susan I hope everything goes ok today
Ash a worrying time 💐
Safe travels gramaretto. Have a lovely time.
Nothing much on the agenda here today. I may try a short walk if it warms up a bit.
Take care out there.

aggie Thu 18-Jan-24 08:35:38

Good morning from Co Armagh , it says -2 on the weather station , positively balmy compared to others !
Day 2 of the boiler installation , house has kept the heat well , it’s dropped to 19 , I have my cardigan on
I’m assured the boiler will be connected and working by this evening
I haven’t had to turn on the electric radiator yet
My heart goes out to those whose siblings or friends have died

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-Jan-24 08:35:21

Morning all from a chilly -4 corner of Essex.

I have overslept and need to get a move on. Off to Lakeside first thing (Jan/Feb birthdays). Haven’t read the thread, will come back later 🙋‍♀️👋

Urmstongran Thu 18-Jan-24 08:34:15

Good morning everyone from a very frosty south Manchester. My cough is very ‘fruity’. I’m so glad I’m already on antibiotics before it got even more of a hold.

We have no plans but it’s Thursday - our date night when events allow - so we are planning to wrap up warm at tea time and enjoy a meal at our favourite Italian restaurant round the corner. We shall both be drinking alcohol free beer.

Here’s Matt.
x

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 18-Jan-24 08:30:07

Good morning, Alexa says it’s -5 here Mick, however, as we were warned I kept the heating on overnight, so we are toasty and warm. Thank goodness we have an oil delivery booked!
Condolences to you GM
Susan I hope your day goes as well as can be expected.
Ash hopefully your appointments come through soon.
Safe travels to all Grans on the move
Best wishes to poorly Grans, MD hope you have a better day.
Please stay warm and stay safe, let’s hope the sun shines on us all today, literally and metaphorically.

monk08 Thu 18-Jan-24 08:28:03

Good morning all from the Black country where it is -6 but I can see the sun shining.

Safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 18-Jan-24 08:21:45

Good morning all, very chilly and frosty but hoping for a bit of blue sky later. Need to buy a new duvet, so my thrifty January will take a bashing. So cold I might just 'wear' it on the way home!
Thinking of you GMflowers. Hope everyone has a good safe day x

NannyJan53 Thu 18-Jan-24 08:21:10

Good morning from a very frosty Black Country, where it is currently -5 deg.

Expensive day yesterday, as paid HMRC tax owed, and car tax.

Thursday walk this morning, so I think I will need my thermals on.

Had a Whats App off 15 year old DGD asking if I have photo's of her Mum (my DD) when she was a teenager. I had loads as a baby, toddler and young girl, but not many after the age of 12! I found 3.

Sincere condolences gM
Hoping you will receive your scan soon Ashcombe
Safe travels Grammaretto

Wishing you all the best day possible

Grandmabatty Thu 18-Jan-24 08:20:16

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -5°and frosty. It didn't get above freezing yesterday at all. I prefer blue skies to grey any day though. My condolences to you GrandMattie on the loss of your sister. Susan a difficult day ahead for you and the family. Ash that's disappointing for you. A diagnosis helps to make the way forward clearer. Grammaretto safe journey and have a lovely time.
Yesterday I braved the cold and took dgs1 to nursery. Dgs2 was very upset when we left him with his other gran. DD said later that he had been very emotional all day and his temperature was a bit high, so he's probably sickening for something. That would explain the awful tantrums and behaviour on Tuesday. I made a slow cooker pot of meatballs and sauce and they were delicious.
Today I think I'll have a baking day. Bread, scones, biscuits and cakes. There's enough meatballs to have again tonight so dinner is sorted. Have a good day all

Gingster Thu 18-Jan-24 08:13:43

Sorry Susan. Hope all goes well today 🙏

Gingster Thu 18-Jan-24 08:10:00

Good morning all 🥶. Bright sky over the sea.

Yesterday we went to Aldeburgh for fish and chips. The restaurant was busy but the town was empty. Strange to see it like this as it’s a very popular holiday destination.

I watched ‘One Life’ at our small local cinema which was packed. What a wonderful film! 😢.

Today we have been invited in by our neighbour for coffee. This is unheard of. She has, never in nearly 20 years, asked us in. She comes to us every time we’re here and has afternoon teas and dinners with us. Always invite her if we have others in too. When I knock on her door , we always stand on the doorstep, even when I bring her gifts/flowers etc.
it doesn’t bother us, but this is a shock! 😳🤔.

This evening I have my book club meeting. Haven’t read the book but will go along anyway. They’re a nice group of ladies.

The sun has just appeared over the sea. I think it will be a beautiful day.

Condolences GM . Hope you have happy memories. 💐.
Ash hope your scan will be sooner rather than later. 🤞.
My DD is still waiting an MRI. and a biopsy.😡.

Take care everyone and keep cosy.
