didn't know that till we made a visit to one last week.
With no football match's to be shown either,
it must be a bundle of fun to visit their pubs.

We’re getting a kitten soon. You can now buy back pack carriers for cats so we’re thinking we might take our new let out and about with us. I assume cats are as welcome as dogs in these places?

I’m pleased to hear that. I don’t want dogs around me when I’m eating.

Crikey, Harvey Nichols and Liberty are dog friendly too!!

Joseann I've found the 'posher' the place the more they fawn over my little furry fiend ( and no I refuse to change the spelling)

grin

What about Harrods then?!

keepcalmandcavachon Tue 23-Jan-24 14:05:02

They'd be welcome to him, mud & all, stick him in a hamper!

My retriever won't fit in any bag!

I agree! Wetherspoons is a nice place to eat. It's clean, the staff are pleasant and hard-working. The food is decent and the prices good. It's relaxing. The one we go to is good for families and I often see retired people meeting their friends there. So it's a thumbs up from me!

SueDonim Tue 23-Jan-24 14:15:08

Of course he will, Joseann! grin

Did you ask for a doggy-bag SueDonimgrin He looks adorable!

I don’t agree with dogs in cafes or restaurants, my husband had sat eating in a local cafe recently, whereby a dog jumped up as he was eating a bacon roll. Was not happy, owner seemed to think it was acceptable.

I applaud Wetherspoons for not allowing dogs. I am a dog lover, have always had a dog, but I would not dream of taking him to a restaurant. I could have as he's well behaved, but they have their place and in my mind, no next door to diners. As well as that, some owners don't look after their dogs in public (a bit like kids) and it's then nightmare for everyone else.

polly123 Tue 23-Jan-24 14:47:09

Excellent. Dogs should not be allowed into areas where food is being served. The behaviour of some dog owners has to be seen to be believed (not all!)

Fairycakes Tue 23-Jan-24 14:47:46

SueDonim, this might seem like a strange question but why is your dog wearing a bag? 😂

Greciangirl Tue 23-Jan-24 14:49:42

I went once to a pub at lunchtime which allowed dogs unfortunately.

On the next table to us there was a large dog which constantly shook itself.
As the sun was shining, I could seen the hair and skin flying of all over the place.
Most unhygienic. Of course, the owner was oblivious to this.
They were covered in dog hair anyway so it wouldn’t have been a problem for them.

Selfish! Or what ?

I won’t go to Wetherspoons because of their proposed treatment of staff during Covid.

I think you need to keep up. That ridiculous rumour was quashed long ago.

It’s not my dog, Fairycakes, I don’t have a canine. A few years ago the subway in New York tried to ban people from taking dogs unless they were in bags. People were very inventive when it came to bending the rules. 😂

Sorry it’s a DM link, best I could find. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6752141/Bag-Dogs-Instagram-account-hilariously-documents-dogs-bags-NYC-subway.html

Well I'm glad , to be honest.

I’m a fan of Wetherspoons. I’ve frequented a few in various parts of the country, some have been former picture houses / theatres and displayed some local history on their walls. They have always been clean and well run and for me an added bonus is that dogs are not allowed. I don’t have a problem wish dogs but not in restaurants for reasons other posters have stated. I too have enjoyed breakfast there, on one occasion I wanted a poached egg but was told they are off the menu ( they were serving fried eggs ). Later discovered the poached eggs come ready prepared and they had run out! Very reasonably priced too.

Ditto

Picking a chicken in Hong Kong market which wasn't yet ready to be hung .....
Or a fish for dinner which was still swimming in a tank

Yes one of the markets near us was known by the Brits as stinkies even the taxi drivers knew where you wanted to go if you asked for Stinkies

Misinterpreted, honestly dog free establishments are hard to find, I think dogs in public bars are okay, as long as there is a separate eating area, where dogs aren’t welcome
I honestly think I’m in the minority though.

I feel as you do, I don't really like dogs around when I'm eating - though if they're well trained and don't bother us or hang around our table I don't mind so much. I'm equally against other people's untrained children though, particularly those who run around under everone's feet when food is being carried.

Well, there are lots of places around here where dogs aren't allowed. Plenty of choice for everyone. Give me dogs over humans any day of the week. Much better company. When was the last time you saw a dog getting drunk and starting fights, for instance?

When was the last time you saw a human jumping up at you with muddy feet, knocking you over, slobbering over you, barking at you, farting indiscriminately in public or poking its nose into your crotch!?

Nannapat1 Tue 23-Jan-24 16:22:25

A no dog rule, no football matches showing and no blaring music sounds wonderful to me!
