Good Morning Sunday 21st January 2024

Good (late) morning from a pleasant January day on the Angus coast. We have a yellow warning for rain and an amber warning for wind this evening and tonight. If I could choose I'd have the snow!
Bellasnanna I know what you mean. Somewhere at the bottom of a cupboard I have a box containing all the newspapers of when DH was killed and the 150+ letters and cards of condolence which I have never been able to get rid of. It will be 30 years come September, but even so it feels almost like a betrayal to throw them away. I never look at them, but I know they're there - a final connection which I can't sever.
I think that must be how your husband's family is feeling Susan - such a difficult and painful thing to have to do for you all. Sending you a hug.
Reading that one gran has been celebrating her 'little' brother's 60th birthday, and others their DH's 71st and 72nd, got me thinking about what a huge age span Gransnet covers. Little brother is only just over three years older than my eldest son!! And eldest son and his wife could legitimately be on Gransnet too 😱.

Lovely that you enjoyed your very sociable day yesterday Marydoll - even though you're paying the price today. Exhaustion is my bugbear (and I do realise that that is nothing against pain and sickness) and it took me two full weeks to recover from my two days family 'do' in the Lake District. But it was so worth it to me.
Torbay looks lovely Ash and I'm glad that there are many palm trees remaining - they are so iconic.
So glad you're enjoying your holiday Brook - it must be lovely to escape the British January for even a short while.
All the time I've been writing this I've been watching a pigeon, followed by a magpie, hoovering up the food on the bird table, so I must go now and replenish it for the little ones - it's a neverending task but brings me lots of pleasure. Sparrows, great tits and robins are the most frequent visitors.

Good morning Mick and all from a dull 9° northwest coast. We have a weather warning and my friend is due to come over and stay from 50 miles away, not ideal…
If he comes, I’ll cook some salmon fillets tonight, don’t feel like dining out. He’s playing the piano for my next concert, so we need to organise the sheet music, a boring task.

Good morning from Glasgow. Horrible day outside, rain is lashing down and heavy grey skies. Corner lamps may be on for the day.

I have a list of DIY and some craftwork to enjoy today and possibly a bit of spray painting in the garage as teenage GDs no longer use their bedrooms here and it’s time to redo them to my taste. I spent most of yesterday looking through interior decor books and Pinterest for some ideas now I just have to get started and that takes care of a gloomy Sunday.

What a headache for you and your DH Susan. This will be a tricky one to solve and I hope, for your sanity, a solution is found soon.

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, currently 8°C and it’s been raining. Today’s severe weather warnings are Amber for wind and yellow for rain.

The chilblains have died down so I guess there’s no frost on the way at the moment. Yesterday was a quiet day after a late night. Nothing planned for today, we will see how the day goes.

I can’t stand clothes touching my throat either Karma, no idea why!

A sad task for sure Bella, enjoy your well earned relaxation today.

I love the changing seasons too Mizuna, nothing would keep me indoors when I was younger and fitter.

Good morning everyone from a damp Northampton, very mild today, 10°C outside.
No plans to go out today; will tidy the kitchen, read the papers, watch some tv, possibly rugby this afternoon.

Came home from the shops yesterday with a pretty summer top from Next, thought it would look nice on my Greek cruise.

A good evening yesterday for my rugby team; playing away in Limerick where we have never won before, and down to 13 men at one stage of the match, we came back and won 26-23! I celebrated with a Southern Comfort!

Bacon is thawing for a late brunch, and I am listening to Tony Blackburn, reliving the Sixties.....

Good morning Mick and everyone from gloomy Carlisle. I await the storm with some trepidation, we have an amber warning and the Met forecasts gusts up to 65mph.
It is definitely a staying in day but I have lots of reading to catch up on.
Yesterday I had to go into town to collect a prescription so went and topped up my fresh veggies in M&S rather than drive round to Sainsbury's. It was raining somewhat and there was a chill wind so I was glad of my new cosy scarf and glad to get home.

I don't envy you and your husband either, Susan, it's very difficult for you all, clearing out your loved ones possessions is emotionally challenging for sure.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. The sun is shining but it’s beginning to get very windy.
It’s Sunday Lunch Club today, a chance for those on their own to have lunch together at our village pub. It’s always a jolly occasion. Today we will raise a glass to my late DH. He would have been 71 today.
I’m keeping myself busy with some housework and the dreaded charity admin.

Good morning from Durham. We have a severe weather warning for tonight with rain as well.
The thaw has turned frozen fields into quagmire - I’ll bath Little Dog before he goes home!
Another room finally decluttered and sorted, but so much shredding still to do. Onto the hall next.
I’m treating DD1 and family for lunch later - I hardly seem to see DGS2, as he has a full programme of events most weekends - he should be hungry after his swimming lesson.

Good morning from a still Suffolk where strong winds forecast for mid afternoon. We are meeting DS and family for lunch in a hotel about an hour away from us and them so hope to get home before the weather deteriorates.

Hope the storm in other parts of the country with amber warnings is not too severe and damaging.

Church in the next village, Sunday paper and start re-reading the book for Thursday’s discussion. The awful weather forecast makes me glad I don’t have to be anywhere but at home later today and I hope that things are less awful than predicted.

The pre-cat inspection went well and this week will involve preparing for her arrival, probably next weekend. Special thoughts to all with worry and unhappiness.

Good morning from a wet Glasgow, where it is currently 6°C.

I had a tiring, but enjoyable day yesterday at my Safeguarding course. To my delight, a friend from my primary school days, was there as a new co-ordinator. We spent ages catching up.
I then went for coffee with another co-ordintor, a friend from secondary school. It turned into lunch and hours of chatting.
She asked me the time and I said 3pm. Should you not be opening the church at 3pm for Vigil Mass, she asked.
The church was twenty minutes away! 😱
Fortunately I had warned the young assistant sacristan I might be a few minutes late.
I had to go straight to church, to find the heating is still broken. It was colder inside than out!
By the time I got home, I didn't feel to well, having overdone it as usual and my chest hurting from the freezing air.

It set me thinking about how much I enjoyed the interaction with others. I have become a bit of a recluse, due to my ongoing health problems, over which I have little control. My mind is very willing, but my useless body unwilling! 😡
It is quite easy to give up and not make an effort.

I am off to Mass with Dollie 😍 and DS, DIL is unwell again.. It is First Communion class today and I am there with my many hats on. It

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and breezy. Not the forecast storm yet though. Susan how frustrating for you and your husband. Brook it sounds like you are having a good time.
Yesterday I met up with a friend and her daughter for breakfast. We had a lovely blether and her daughter treated us so that was very nice. The rest of the day I spent doing housework and washing and nothing in between. Dgs1 is unwell and has an ear infection so I'm not sure if he'll be with me all day tomorrow. I expect so.
Today I'll go food shopping. I intend to make lentil soup and I have a parcel to collect which I haven't done yet. I will visit mum today too. I'm struggling to get motivated to do anything these days. Have a good day all

Good morning all and it’s starting to get breezy here in Essex.

I’ll pick DD and little DGD up and take them for her swimming lesson, bring them back for a roast chicken dinner (sausages for gd who is very fussy with her food) . Their beautiful cat was found dead in the shed last week and they are still grieving.😢.

Good morning from our hotel in Tenterden in Kent. We had a lovely evening yesterday celebrating my youngest brother's 60th birthday. Great food, plenty to drink and lots of laughs.
One of the highlights yesterday was finding a beautiful dress in one of my favourite shops reduced from £69 to £16.20, a bargain.
Today we plan on going to Ashford shopping outlet before our journey home.
