My friend has faddy ‘allergies’. Her latest is gluten. I always give her cakes say they are gluten free but they are not. She has never had any issues with my gluten!

Live over 225 miles away from family
Do you ever just let someone believe something is happening even though it isn't?
This is just a fun thread so let's play nice.
DH thinks I use a new teabag each time I make him a cup of tea. He drinks really weak tea so the teabag barely touches the water. I use the same tea bag 3 times as long as it's not been too long since it was last used. DH would be horrified if he realised.
When DD1 was 4, I made the mistake of buying her a crying doll for Christmas. By lunch time on Christmas Day it was driving me insane so I flipped the batteries the wrong way. She saw the batteries were still in and accepted my explanation that they must have run out of power because her baby had cried so much.

you are fortunate that she didn't have Coeliac disease, when eating gluten would have made her very ill!
don't mess with anyone elses food intake.
The only time I do lie, and yes, it is a downright lie, is when my neighbour, who lives on the next street thinks I am on this planet just to look after her even though we are the same age, 81. I get phone calls to say her TV is not working I tell her I will go round tomorrow but no, she wants it doing now I tell her to ring an engineer, she tells me that it is too expensive and I will do it for free. She knows I am computer literate and technically minded so I am her first port of call. She refuses to ring her sons because they are busy people she is driving me mad, now she wants me to shorten some skirts for her as the repair shop charges too much.
I am now, either ill, have company, waiting for parcels, or waiting for an engineer to come. I am running out of excuses.
If she rings me to go out with her (to carry her bags and push the trolley, carry her library books that need returning to the library) yes I will go as I can do a bit of shopping at the same time and she still drives her little car.
I have become a great liar because of her but I don't think of it as lying, I think of it as preserving my sanity as she is the most obstinate, bossy woman you will ever meet. Even our sons have told me to keep away from her.
I would never do that, even if she is a faddy eater, no-one knows what her diet is at that particular moment, she may be newly diagnosed.
I very gradually cut down my husband's sugar intake in his coffee from 2 to 1 spoonfuls. He become aware of this when he first told someone who was making the coffee he had 2 sugars and I confessed. He was actually grateful I did it for him.
My youngest daughter didn't like pork, but she would eat chicken without the bones in.
I also remember many years ago DD2 sprinkling a whole tub of talcum powder over the bedroom. All of the children denied it but only DD2 could lie with a straight face so was quiet easy to know who was lying. So I went back up the stairs( so they thought) and then came back and told them the fingerprints in it were DD2 size - so she had to admit to the deed. There were no fingerprints in it but I knew it was her because she was the one that did this sort of thing. The others were no angels they just had different mischiefs
When I was a small child I didn't like bacon but I did like 'piggy' so, if I was with her in the butcher's, my mother would ask for a pound of bacon and two slices of piggy. If I wasn't with her when she was buying bacon, the butcher always asked her, loudly, if she wanted any piggy with that! I also didn't like cabbage but boiled lettuce went down fine!
I was working full time plus from home and invited a friend to lunch. She was a WI member and really into all their activities. My invite was in return for taking me as her guest at one of their parties where I found she had to supply just about everything I ate or drank plus a little gift! I fed her M&S tinned mild chicken curry with baked potato and salad. She thought it absolutely delicious and asked for the recipe. Luckily I had read the ingredients on the tin! 😁
Dad was a policeman - we moved often. On one move we owned a rather unruly dog that started a dog fight down the road. Unfortunately our dog had bitten the Chief Superintendent’s posh Chow Chow dog. We sent the dog back to our previous neighbour who loved him. I was 12 year old and devastated but comforted to know he had gone back to the countryside. It was only recently that my brother and sister broke the news that my beloved dog had actually been put down and never returned to the countryside!! They couldn’t believe that I thought he had been rehomed!! I am 70 this year and still feel a bit miffed at this “white lie” obviously told to save my feelings at the time.
Hard up back in the early 70’s I would make sandwiches for DH’s lunch, but when it came to salmon he insisted it be red not pink. For a year or so he didn’t realise that I was adding cochineal to pink salmon until one day something went wrong and the bread looked as if I’d soaked it in blood!
Nannyknee, it's never wise to assume allergies are "fads," my husband and daughter would both be very ill if in contact with gluten. They haven't got a safe amount either . Strange how nobody questions nut allergies but gluten is a fad ? That poor lady could have been suffering and trying to work out how she was glutened.
My dad would never have ketchup or brown sauce. But more than that, he found that it tasted better if it was called gravy- mushroom gravy, cheese gravy, etc.amazing how they taste different isn't it?
My brother and wife are brilliant at everything (!) so I let them believe I'd baked the lovely fancy sponge cake I arrived with on a visit. They just assumed! It was actually a "cake kit". My sister-in-law asked me for the recipe some time later as she wanted to make one for their village fete. I could/should have come clean at that point, but instead I provided a recipe which she used. She said she wouldn't be able to take it to the fête as it wasn't the same. I never told the truth 😬
Omg! That's absolutely diabolical!
LMAO!
Removing or changing batteries around reminds me of a toy dog (that barked and did tricks) that I gave my 3 yr. old daughter. She loved it but her parents had to remove the batteries when neighbours complained about that " dog that keeps barking all the time" 🤭❗
3 yr old granddaughter I meant !
That made me laugh Callistemon
Your curry story reminds me of my Dad. One of his favourite soups had always been Mulligatawny, until the day he was helping me unpack the shopping and spotted on the label that it was curry flavour. He refused point blank to eat/drink it after that "I can't stand curry" Bless him.
Swapping regular ketchup for low salt and sugar, which I pour into the regular ketchup bottle so as hubby doesn't know. He has high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

As a former teacher I had to be very creative with language when writing school reports.
Remember the old staff room joke about the child whose school report stated "Trying" at the end of the Autumn term and "Still trying" at the end of the Spring term?
Parents reasonably satisfied, until the report at the end of the summer term stated, "Still very trying."
I always found it best to state politely and in plain terms exactly what I meant.
I read on social media a message from a man who, as a child, refused to eat peas. His mother would hide one in every meal and he would rummage through, locate it, and leave it triumphantly on the side of his plate. Very recently his mother owned up to him that she actually hid two peas in every meal!
When my son was little there was a TV programme/ song to send little ones to bed. We had a copy videoed so that we could bring bedtime forward if necessary. Also, when he began to learn numbers the digital clock on the video would get altered as well if needed.
Luckygirl3: I've done that! We had rabbit stew and I told the children it was chicken. They really enjoyed it, it was only years after that I told them.
Ooops I’ve done both the scratch thing with the car and the battery thing, but in the main if I lie, it’s normally by simply saying nothing!
One of my children once told me, when he was four, a man came out of one of our pictures on the wall and made his bedroom a mess and another child, about the same age, told me a burglar ate all the biscuits!
Mmm guess you reap what you sow!
Oh and another child wouldn’t eat Ham, unless we called it chicken-ham!
