Chatting away this morning with same age-ish group, someone asked "how old do you feel"? Not one of us felt over 30, I said 13. I have just done an online quiz (for fun) on the site How Stuff Works and my brain age is 19. Should I get up later, game all day and party 'till the early hours......
Now I'm getting on I find the weather dictates how I feel age wise. I live in Sydney, Australia and we've had a very hot summer so atm I feel older than my age; no motivation or energy. When I'm with the GC's I feel about 7, I love getting on the swings and slides with them and laughing at the silliest of things.
Apparently according to the calender I am 65 today but still feel the same as I did when I was 30 apart from if I pull a muscle or similar it seems to take longer to repair lol I also worry far less life is too short
Maybe at the other end of the scale, I laughed today when D3 presented me with a bottle of wine when she, SIL and the 2 little boys came for lunch - and told me how I very nearly didn’t get it as she had been challenged for ID. She is 42 FGS. Then SIL (45 and with a grey beard ) was also refused as he was “clearly buying on her behalf”. The excuse was that D looked as if she “might have been under 25.”She must have persuaded them eventually, perhaps the presence of her 5 year old and 2 1/2 year old helped! Perhaps she could bottle her “ secret of eternal youth” and make her fortune.
I love my retirement. Going to lots of classes and sport centre (Spin and pilates). My joints hurt a little and I do sleep loads. Losing weight is harder... I feel my age really.
I hate hearing older people say, "and I'm ^whatever age^" with a smile and a twinkle, waiting for amazed congratulations . For amazed, read patronising, although feeling patronised is probably a choice...🤔
My life changed coming to St Lucia. I was miserable in London after my husband died. I adored him and we were happy constantly arguing politics and travelling a lot. I would come here for the winter but after the last bad outbreak of COVID when my children encouraged me to leave. I do have lots of metal in my heart and have had cancer twice. The doctor here is great and she could hardly believe my heart went back into normal rhythm which stopped my atrial fibrillation ( although I do have a pacemaker) She declares I will get to 106! The secret of life is being curious about the world. I am on a constant learning curve. I write incessantly to save the lives of condemned dogs in USA and here. I am the computer network controller in a house that is full of TVs and computers. I am grateful to God for allowing me to have a long life and my two little dogs who bring me so much joy. I now have a neighbour who is an Australian in her 59s and is here because her husband is a diplomat which is great because she strolls in for afternoon tea and a glass of wine, She is a good friend as well as many others on the island. GRANSNET interests me because it covers all my interests. I guess I feel about 60 although almost 30 years older.
@Witzend, it's when an elderly person suddenly say: "You'll never guess how old l am." My usual reply is that I am terrible at guessing ages and that they will have to tell me. I always think the next bit needs a drum roll as they proudly reveal all: "I'm 86, you know." My response is always an astonished facial expression and; "NEVER!" There is a delighted beam on the face of the person as they think that l think that they look years, nay decades younger than they are. I, of course, might think they look younger but I could equally be thinking that they look ten years older...They always, always take it the way they want to.
Oh "Granny23" I so agree with you about January and Febuary, awful months thankfully January is nearly over.
Physically I'm not bad for my age, 77 but as others have said that can go at any minute. Mentally I'm so much more forgetful than I was in my younger days which really annoys me.
Witzend your post reminds me... When I was 34, we bought a house from an elderly couple with whom we made friends. "There are three ages," she told me. "Young, middle-aged and wonderful." I'm now about the same age and trying to be wonderful. But I do know I'm old and it's not easy.
If I had a chance to go back in time I would want to do 50 (and my 50’s) again and go forward.
I looked the best, was the most physically fit, finally reached my age of wisdom, no self-doubt, was proud of my achievements, had romance again, traveled, knew who I was and what I wanted!
Had not even reached my best and favorite job of my life (for 20 years). I was on a roll. Now retired in my 70’s I relish my young “head trips” and am the happiest. You never grow old. USA Gundy
I'm 80 but my default mental age is 7. I still have so much more to learn and I've only just begun to find a satisfying way of being, how can I cram it all into what's left before my body gives up on me?
