A statue erected on our seafront, to commemorate the murdered Conservative MP, David Amess.

A longstanding, hard working, decent and visible MP has had a statue erected in memorial and a video appears to be circulating on local social media of “a person spitting on it”.

Our local police are investigating it and I hope they catch the “person” and charge them.

I don’t care if the person is male or female, white or non-white, they are completely disrespecting this MPs memory and insulting his family, who remain living locally.

Why so people think it’s ok to behave in this disgusting way?

A dreadful thing to do. As you say, why behave in this disgusting way?
Apparently other people when they heard went and washed and dried the statue and brought fresh flowers to decorate it.

I really cannot understand the mentality of people who do vile stunts like this. From all I have read of MP David Amess he was a thoroughly good man and an excellent MP. It makes me sad for his family who have to go through yet more pain.
Hopefully they catch the moron but they won’t change his mindset.

cossy I saw this yesterday, I have no words for this individual. I have seen the footage, accidentally I might add 😡😡😡

We knew DA, he was a kind family man and like you have posted a good constituency MP along with being respected in the parliament.

It’s a shame the perpetrator of this act doesn’t appraise himself fully with Amess’ Parlimentary record.

His EDM 6 February 2007:

That this House notes that a number of hon. Members who voted in favour of the war in Iraq did so on the basis of the information provided to them by the Prime Minister; notes with grave concern that the information provided was incorrect in terms of weapons of mass destruction and the 45 minute warning; recognises that those hon. Members now regret their decision to vote in favour of the war with Iraq; views with concern that the Prime Minister was not present at the debate on the Iraq war on Wednesday 24th January; calls upon him to account for his actions; and further calls upon the Leader of the House to provide Parliamentary time to allow this House to reach a decision as to whether British armed forces should remain in Iraq.
