Burns' Night - do you celebrate?

No, but I do quite like haggis!

We can't now as we will be travelling

Yes, my brother and his wife are here tonight for the haggis, neeps and mash, there won’t be whisky though. He was born in Perth and is younger than me.

I have never bothered and I also am not impartial to haggis but I am not fussed when I eat it.

Didn’t manage to catch a wild one and the farmed ones are not so nice

I used to. I taught Burns poems for Higher English and sang in many a Burns competition as a child. Before I retired, I was the Tam O Shanter specialist at school Burns Suppers. At home, I used to host family Burns suppers but life is much quieter now.

I have made cock a leekie soup Balmoral chicken and whiskey sauce with neeps and tatties. An oat and raspberry cheese cake to finish.

I have only ever celebrated Burn's night once. About 15 years ago an aunt, originally from Scotland,had been there visiting family just before Burn's night and brought some haggis back.

She, and my uncle, invited a dozen or so for a meal. We all had a great time....including whiskey for those who liked it.

Since then, in Winter, I often cook haggis.

I have sung at more Burns Suppers than I’ve had hot dinners, and will be delivering Tam O’ Shanter at one tonight, so haggis, neeps and tatties with a dram for me.
If I’m not performing I always have a haggis dinner ( and a dram).

I have veggie haggis to have with parsnip mash tonight (Friday), which is, I appreciate, an abomination to Burnsians on a number of levels .

It will be eaten late as I have been off my food, and it is veggie as my husband doesn’t eat meat and I don’t eat offal. The parsnips are because I’m not a fan of mashed neeps - otherwise it will all be very authentic

I didn’t even know it was Burns night. Australia Day for us until the politically correct manage to abandon it. Just thought, I’ve got a leek in the cupboard but I guess that’s more Welsh ? Is there a Welsh Day ? St. David ? I’d celebrate that one, old family roots and all that.

We always celebrated burns night.Our dear Scottish friends hosted.He would do the address to the haggis.Many speeches and poems would follow,it was great fun back in the day.

Yes indeed - for a change from just haggis, neeps and tatties, we had Balmoral Chicken (chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon), with our neeps and tatties, followed by cranachan.
